Australian Sets Play final one 2004/5

The winners were Clive Adams, the Wanneroo Wizard, and John Sheridan from Morley.
Both players will fly to Sydney in August to contest the Australian indoor singles
title.

The Finals of the Australian Indoor sets play finals for the W.A section were
played over the weekend.
This event has shown us just how good Clive Adams, John Goddard and Trystan Smallacome
are, their consistency is something special. In this event John Goddard played
Trystan in the last 16 and won, then had to play Clive in the final and lost,
they were part of the great rink that lost only one game in the Interstate side
series and the team that won gold and silver at Moama, are they the best ever
to play for W.A as a rink?
In the first final Clive had a brilliant game against John Goddard who was also
very good in this game. It was such a high standard that it was one of the better
games that bowls watchers could watch and not really miss their footy.
The game was played mainly over long ends and the draw shots were precision plus.
Shot play was right on the money , if one had the shot it was never certain that
they could retain holding that shot, nerve wracking would apply to either player
in their quest for victory.

The first set was won by Clive 8--7. it was a very tight set and either player
could have won the game,
In the second set, Clive was certainly a little better than John but once again
the standard was so high that a miniscule adjustment of weight was costly. The
bowls generally were so close to the jack that it was worthy of a final anywhere
in the world. Clive won the set 8--4

Sheridan { yes folks he is my brother } defeated last years winner Rob Bowron
in the final, Guess you would have to say that I was the most nervous of any
one there, and obviously hoping for Johnno to win

It was a great game with nothing in it in the first set, the score was 7/5 in
favour of Rob on the 8th end, however Johnno scored a big big four on the 9th
end to win it 9--7
The second set saw Johnno play a lot better than Ron who was always under the
pump having to contend with ultra close bowls. he was consistently out drawn
with bowls that were in most cases, right on the jack.
Robert's shot play helped some what, but as always the man who gets to the jack
first and often will win most games and that was the case in this game. the set
finished 11--4 in favour of Johnno.
Talking with Lenny Krajancic after his great game against Johnno, he remarked that these type of games are interesting and intense to play, adding that he thoroughly enjoyed the format.
