The BowlsWA Awards for 2005

May 7, 2005
A great evening for all who attended, BowlsWA can take a bow with an excellent presentation that was attended by several hundred people. The MC for the evening was Tim Gossage who was a very good choice indeed.
I think that it was a great step forward in presenting the awards in this fashion, once the word gets around how professionally well done it was, it is sure to attract even more people than attended the function this year.
Well done to BowlsWA for a great show.

Rosenthal Medal

The winner of the Rosenthal Medal was Gary Caffell, a most deserving winner, he also was awarded country bowler of the year, this will be a year that he will never forget.
Winner of the State Pairs, R/U in the State Singles, winner of the Master Triples, a state team member and performed extremely well in the recent Australian open Championships held in Victoria.
Gary gave a terrific speech and a very humble man he is.

The Woman bowler of the year was Roma Dunn and an impressive lady she is, it was a good win after a two year layoff from the game. She had a stellar year winning the Australian Open Singles, and selection in the Australian national team to play later this year

Presidents Medal

The Presidents Medal award was won by Russell Hughes, who had a sensational year after being dropped from the State Side to win the State Singles title.
Russell is also the skipper of the number one rink in One Red pennants this season and capped it off, helping Cockburn to win the premiership for 2005.

Rosenthal Medallists Medal

The Junior Rosenthal Medal was awarded to Blake Heldt, who is just 16 years of age, and what an impressive young man he is, and certain to go places in the world of lawn bowls, Blake gave a terrific speech and in the process revealed that the best bowler in the Heldt family is his 13 year old sister.
Blake is a very likeable young man and we wish him all the success that he can achieve in the future, well done Blake.
