Moama Super League 2005
May 24, 2005
The result at the Moama Super League 2005, would rank as one of West Australia's
top efforts in the scheme of things over the years.
This team of players have shown that they are right up there with the best
players in Australia.
For their efforts they have bought home two gold and two silver medals.
Fabulous performance fellahs, We are very, very proud of your wonderful effort.
This performance will go down as one of bowls W.A great moments.
2005 is indeed a year to remember.
Among other great performances, Perhaps the best W.A event that I can remember
is the great Bert Sharp winning a gold medal in the fours at the commonwealth
games held in Brisbane.
Ron Taylor winning the inaugural Jack-hi event on A.B.C television was a real
highlight for West Australian Bowls in the 80's
The State Team winning the Australian sides series in Darwin 1991 where they
lost on only two rinks for the series, a feat that will be hard to repeat for
any State team in the future.
P.S We dont have any photo of Rooster Wishart in our library
to put into this page.

The side that represented W.A was a form team, it
had just finished as third best performed rink at the Australian sides series
played in Victoria.
To win this Super League event is no easy task as some of the very best professional
players in Australia played in it.
Steve Glasson {world champion} Mark Casey, S Globits,
W. Cornehls {he won the Aus open .pairs,triples,2005} Brett Duprez,
to name some of the players the W.A boys had to beat to win their particular
events

The final
Clive Adams and Pieter Harris won the Mens Pairs Gold Medal with and emphatic 17/12 scoreline
against favourites from NSW Brett Duprez & Steve Glasson.
In a tight fought match, the WA boys kept Glasson on the attack frequently
piling many bowls into the head.
With a 3 to 5 shot margin for the entire match and the boys held on for a fabulous
win.

Section
1: WA 4 (+12)------ Section 2: QLD 5 (+14).,
The final:
T. Smallacombe, J. Goddard and G. Wishart won 18/17 over
the Queensland’s J. Aworth, W. Cornehls and Mark Casey.
After such a devasting finish to the fours game, there was a lot to think about
before the triples game, the team was up against 3 of the same players that
were in the fours.
It would be fair to say we were down on confidence, but high on resolve to
win this one.
The match was pretty tight most of the way, with us having our noses in front,
when they got an (arsey) 5, leaving us 4 down, with four to play.
We managed to tie it up with 2 ends to play, but dropped a 1. When we crossed
over for the last time, we were holding one shot, an inch shy of the jack,
and Qld holding 2nd shot a couple of inches behind.
Rooster with his second (of 3) bowls sat on the back bowl, to leave us sitting
with 2. Mark Casey's final bowl, got a rub off a wing bowl, and sat on the
outside of Rooster's 2nd shot, leaving us holding 2 and the gold medal.

Moama Fours
Fours:WA T Smallacombe, C Adams,
J Goddard, G Wishart.
WA (T Smallacombe, C Adams, J Goddard, G Wishart) 27 beat TAS

WA (T Smallacombe, C Adams, J. Goddard, G Wishart) 21 beat SA
(S Dorr, S Taylor, S Bradbrook, W Ruediger) 16.
Section
1: WA 4 (+10)----Section 2: QLD 6 (+5).
The Final
QLD (W Cornehls, J Aworth, N Rice, M Casey) won the Gold for Queensland by
10 shots over the Western Australians (T Smallacombe, C Adams, J Goddard, G
Wishart).
We played the fours first thing in the morning, up against Qld, with 3 Australian
Team members, and we were playing well on the shorter ends, and leading 11-10
when they won the mat.
In the Sides Series, our rink was pretty successful on the longer ends and
struggled on the shorter ends.
Well they went ditch to ditch and lead, Bill Cornehls came on fire, regularly
dropping 2 within 6 inches on the long ends from that point on.
The 2nd Jeff Aworth dropped his 2 in, and before we knew it dropped a 6, and
from then on it was a struggle, eventually going down by 11.

The Final
W.A J. Goddard Lost Shane Globits QLD 3-14, 8-4, 1-2.
A great effort by John to make the final, defeating Steve Glasson along the
way. Steve Glasson, who is a terrific person must be wishing there wasn't any
W.A players in these touraments, they have put him out of many games this year.
Unlucky in the final, John had the shot against Shane Globits with the last
bowl of the game and was the winner only to see the bowl fall out for him to
lose the game.
