PREVIEW ONE BLUE SOUTH ROUND EIGHTEEN

What a weekend of bowls, Melville played very well to unsettle Vic Park at home, Manning won against Mosman Park and Spearwood won a close game against Carlisle Lathlain, now it all comes down to the last game of the season for three sides.
Mosman Park the division leaders for almost the entire season, Manning who have played great bowls in the second half of the season and Spearwood who have never been lower than third for one game, who can they take the next step and get promotion to One White? Will Mossies steady after two losses and take what they believe is rightfully theirs, what about Spearwood they had the great freeze in season 2005/6 have they got what it takes this year? Manning are also in the mix if either Mossies and or Spearwood slip up they have been tremendous in the second half.
If the games go as my selection it will go down to percentage, good luck to all the sides and may the best side win.

Mosman Park v Hilton Park
Mosman Park will host Hilton for a crucial game, in the first round Mossies won 84 for (7) to Hilton 63 (1), there is no reason to think this result will be any different. Apart from the fact Mossies have lost their last two games and this has let in the Manning and Spearwood sides to challenge for the promotion spot to one white.
Hilton Park boast one of the strongest sides in the division but they have not capitalised on their good fortune, with the likes of Travis Simpson, David Opie and Eddie Clarke as skippers this side should be a lot more advanced than it is, Mossies have the luxury of the Rainoldi’s playing for them with Lester Mortimer and Doug Rogers providing strong support, if the real Hilton turn up Mossies are in for a fight, Mossies are on equal points with Spearwood and would want to win this encounter convincingly.
Hilton on the other hand will be looking to avenge the first round defeat and finish the season on a high, Mossies at home with all to play for will win this game 6/2.

Rockingham v Spearwood

Spearwood will travel to Rockingham to take on a great opponent, these two sides have fought out some memorable games in the past and this will be no different. The Rocky boys are a proud side and they protect their patch like no other; they have survived for many years in the cutthroat One Gold division and now in the One Blue division because they make it as uncomfortable as they can for the visitors.
They have the skippers in Watson McIlveen, Steve Wales, Keith Gould and of course Mr reliable John Lethlean.
for the Spearwood side their skippers have been stable all year as well in the likes of Boris Yakas, Marin Sokol, Italo D’Ascenzo and Tonko Fiamengo so can this be the milestone game that provides Spearwood with a win that propels them into One White? The Rocky boys will not be handing out any favours on Saturday, they are safe in One Blue next year and will be looking to the future, the Spearwood side will need to play well or they will hand the promotion on a plate to Mossies.
in the first round Spearwood 89 (6) to Rockingham 69 (2) were easy winners Boris Yakas was the foundation that the Spearwood side built on, for Rockingham John Lethlean stood out, if these two play off it could determine the result, my pick for this game is Spearwood; some may say this is biased but they have played consistent bowls in the last four weeks to give themselves a chance for promotion.
the result will be Spearwood 6/2.

Carlisle Lathlain v Manning
Manning travel to Carlisle to take on a struggling Carlisle; the Eagles have everything to play for while Carlisle have their pride.
In the first round Carlisle won the encounter 81 (5) to Manning 79 (3), Angelo Scaini won well in this game and carried the aggregate for Carlisle, Manning will be looking to reverse this result to ensure they have a chance at promotion. Manning need to win well to keep the pressure on Mosman Park and Spearwood, a slip up by both these sides will let the Eagles claim the coveted prize.
Carlisle played well at Spearwood and are very committed to beating the Eagles and finish on a high note for a very disappointing season, Manning have too much at stake to loose this game, it will be close.
my selection is Manning 6/2.

Melville v East Fremantle
Melville host East Fremantle in a game that will be critical to the Blue and Whites, the Magic are playing quality bowls, they are now a far better side than in the first round where the result was Melville 80 (7˝) to East Freo 63 (˝), the home side will win this game comfortably the Blue and Whites will need to regroup and try again next year.
the result will be Melville 7/1.

Midland Morrison v Victoria Park
Midland Morrison hosts Victoria Park, in the first round Vic Park won 91 (6˝) to Midland 72 (1˝), the Park have too much strength for the home side however many others have travelled up the Roe Highway and have had the long disappointing ride home, the Midland greens are not what the Park will enjoy and they will have to stay tuned from the first end or play catch up bowls, Midland are still a chance to save themselves from demotion so this game has more in it for them than Vic Park,
my selection is Midland Morrison 6/2.
