REVIEW ONE BLUE SOUTH ROUND TEN
Midland 86 (7) d Mosman Park 75 (1)
Midland Morrison travelled to Mosman Park (top of the table) and caused the upset
of the day, many of the Midland team may have not been to Mosman Park but
this didn’t upset their day.
The Midland team are to be congratulated on their effort they must now build on the win to move from the relegation zone.
Martin Wattleworth’s rink (23 to 22) were very good winners over John Rainoldi, the scores were tight all day, John Rainoldi regained the lead on the 18th end, however Martin Wattleworth came back on the second last end to snatch back the lead and finally ran out winners by the narrowest of margins.
Gary Wills (20 to 14) a new skipper for Midland (hasn’t lost a game) were too strong for the Peter Cole rink; they led from the start and never looked like they would get beaten.
David Rhodes’ rink (27 to 16) easily accounted for Lester Mortimer; David has
a very good rink that is establishing itself very quickly they have won 4 of
their last 6, accounting for Milan Jokic on the way, one of the new players for
Midland is Aaron Staples he has only played 8 games of lawn bowls he is showing
enormous potential and is also the apprentice greenkeeper for Midland, Lester
picked up a 7 to close the margin but the Mossy Park team couldn’t make up the
difference.
For Mosman Park Doug Rogers (23 to 16) won against John Snell, they led all day
and were never headed.
East Fremantle 93 (7) d Victoria Park 64 (1)
In a must win game for East Freo at home, they delivered the goods. Victoria Park are in fifth spot on 42 points but losses to two sides below them in the past three weeks and with their next four games are against the sides above them, they will need to take some substantial points or they could find themselves drifting into "the danger zone".
A good start was essential and after 44 ends, the blue and whites lead 53 to 28, a lead of 25 shots. Three rinks were leading, with Gary Mitchell trailing by two points against Rod Volich. The second half was very even with the home side scoring 40 to 39 to win 93 to 64 and gain seven very important points.
John
Brewer and Bruno Zarins (pictured) rinks lead all day to both finish 13 shots
in front.
Reg Bullen’s rink also led all day, with a lead of 17 to 4 after 11 ends against Brenton Scott. However a good fight back from the Vic Park boys in the second half saw the final scores 25 to 20 to East Freo.
For Victoria Park, the rink of George Beacroft, Jim Holland and Neville Faulkner
skippered by Rod Volich earned the visitors only point on the final end of the
game; winning 19-17 against Gary Mitchell.
They had the tightest game all day
with the lead changing hands 4 times, with the scores level four times, the last
being the 20th end; however the Park scored 2 on the last end to win by the game.
Hilton Park 78 (6½) d Carlisle Lathlain (1½)
A reorganised Hilton Park with two new faces and four positional changes got their season back on track with this win over Carlisle Lathlain.
Hilton was ahead all day and although Carlisle fought back over the last third of the game the aggregate was never really in doubt.
Eddie Clarke’s rink raced out to a 16 shot lead by halfway over Tony Dibello’s rink who to their credit stuck to their task and reduced the deficit to 6 shots by the end of the game.
Travis Simpson led all day but couldn’t quite shake off John Henderson and won by 3 shots.
Norm Ball had a nip and tuck game with Angelo Scaini which ended in a 21 all draw.
David Opie’s unlucky run continued losing by 7 shots to Bob Simms. Future opposition beware however as David is due to give someone a hiding.
All in all it was a good result for Hilton which keeps them in touch with the leaders.
Carlisle battled well and were worthy of the 1½ points they took from the game

Manning Eagles 78 (7) d Rockingham 63
(1)
Manning hosted Rockingham, the Eagles were looking for a win following their narrow loss the previous week at home against Carlisle they were successful against Rockingham and displace Victoria Park in the top four.
For Manning, Bill Pengilly (22 to 18), recorded a win against Steve Wales,
Brian Jepperson a first time skipper (14 to 12) defeated Keith Gould in a
close encounter the scores were never far apart all day. Milan Jokic’s rink
(27 to 17) continue their good form to defeat Watson McIlveen,
Milan’s strong
performance continues to underpin the Manning side.
For Rockingham John
Lethlean (18 to 15) over Peter Bowden’s rink provided the only win for Rockingham,
John’s rink has won on the last 3 encounters and continues to show very good
form.

Spearwood 107 (7) d Melville 73 (1)
Melville came to Spearwood looking to maintain their wining form on the back of two good wins; however the Spearwood side won easily on 3 rinks to claim 7 points and re-claim the top of the table position.
The Boris Yakas rink (34 to 14) led by Joe Salmeri, second Stan Gvozdin and
third Ivo Dragicevich were in command from the 4th end.
Nev Brierley with a
new look side battled all day but Boris continues to lead the Division on shots
up with a +96, he is the mainstay for Spearwood and his excellent form was on
display when drawing or playing weight.
Tonko Fiamengo welcomed back his regular
rink (33 to 16) led by Rade Brbich, second Brian Sumich and third Ken Nadilo
as they powered away from the first end, Gary McCormack and his rink staged
a comeback from the 17th end however the damage had been too great and was well
and truly insurmountable.
Ivan Unkovich (28 to 20) a stand in skipper was too strong for first time skipper
Adrian Lee, John Trewella didn’t play so Adrian assumed control of his reorganised
rink, John Terrell was third for Adrian the two teams battled manfully with
the Melville rink closing to within 4 on the 18th end however with Sam Perica
as lead, Kevin Yakas as second and Dominic Salvetti as his third Ivan steadied
over the last 4 ends to close the game out, Ivan has won two from two which
has been a bonus for the home side.
For Melville Brent Alexander my apologies
to Brent I have been reporting him as Brad (23 to 12) with Ken Boyer as his
lead, Harry Cole as second and Allan Keating playing third easily accounted
for the Marin Sokol rink, Harry played a very good game.
However the story of
the day was the excellent form Brent displayed all day he converted 8 ends from
down to up, added when required on the other 4, on that form it is hard to understand
why he isn’t playing in the Magic’s one red side.
The Marin Sokol rink has been
struggling and you would expect changes in that side this week.
