Hilton Park 101 (7) d Victoria Park 57 (1)
This report will be included in next weeks round thirteen review.
REVIEW ONE BLUE SOUTH ROUND TWELVE
Mosman Park 83 (7) d Rockingham 70 (1)
Mosman Park took on the always dangerous Rockingham knowing that a win was vital to maintain their stranglehold on top spot and possible promotion to One White.
From the outset Mossies always looked in control with the rinks of Doug Rodgers and John Rainoldi establishing comfortable early breaks. Lester Mortimer’s ever reliable rink was locked in a close battle with Watson McIlveen while Peter Cole’s rink was struggling to keep up with the strong Keith Gould quartet.
By
games end Doug Rodgers ran out a 21 – 9 winner over John Lethlean, while
John Rainoldi defeated Steve Wales 27 – 17, Lester Mortimer just scrapped
over the line 21 – 20 against Watson McIlveen courtesy of a Wyn Ferris bomb
on the last end.
Keith Gould provided the only joy for Rockingham recording a comfortable 24 – 14
victory over Peter Cole.

Mosman Park gained another point on second place Spearwood
courtesy of their 6-2 victory over East Fremantle leaving Mossies seven points
clear on top.
Carlisle Lathlain 96 (8) d Midland Morrison 66 (0)
A huge win for Carlisle over a struggling Midland. Carlisle won across the
green in a strong display that can start them on way out of the relegation
zone.
For Carlisle Tony Dibello (27 to 14) easily accounted for John Snell,
Bob Simms (20 to 19) narrowly beat Martin Wattleworth the scores were close
all day. Angelo Scaini (22 to 16) won against David Rhodes and first time
skipper John Sheridan (27 to 17) had an excellent win over Gary Willis.
The
Carlisle greens as usual up to their top condition combined with a reorganised
Carlisle side proved too much for Midland to overcome.
Hilton Park 86 (6) d Melville 64 (2)
A comfortable win for Hilton 86 – 64, over a Melville side battling to avoid relegation.
The very consistent Norm Ball with son Brad playing three, along with Ray Stevens and Mike Kendall, continued their great form with a convincing win over N. Brierley, taking out the last eight ends to win 31 – 10.
David Opie, after his most successful week, in which he won the State singles and Best of the West singles, kept up his excellent form to beat John Trewhella 27– 18.
Travis Simpson and Eddie Clarke both had tight games all day but were pipped over the last few ends, losing by four shots to Garry McCormack and Glen Beard respectfully.
All in all a successful day for the Park which keeps them in touch with Spearwood and Mossie Park at the top, however Melville need to start winning aggregates to pull clear of the drop zone.
Victoria Park 79 (6½) d Manning 66 (1½)
These two sides were engaged in a struggle for the points all day. There were many excellent bowls played by both teams throughout the contest.
Three rinks in particular had very close results with the rink points in the balance for all 84 ends.
Bill Pengilly’s rink just managed to hold on from a fast finishing Neville Young (17-16), while Milan Jokic went down by one shot 18-19 on the 21st end.
Young guns, James Jaworski and Brenton Scott had a good tussle. Jaworski’s rink managed to break away late in the game to hold a five shot lead. To their credit, Scott’s team rallied and took the lead by two on the second last end.
On the final end, with Jaworski holding two shots Brenton drove twice narrowly missing both times leaving the scores tied at 21 shots each.
Rod Volich’s rink had the better of Brian Jeppesen’s rink winning 23-10 and I’m
sure it will leave the selectors scratching their heads as to the best way to
achieve a balance across Manning’s four rinks.
Spearwood 79 (6) d East Fremantle 73
(6)
Spearwood hosted East Fremantle and the Blue and Whites didn’t wilt in the sun; in fact they applied the blowtorch to the Spearwood side and narrowly lost the encounter in the dying ends of the game.
The Blue and Whites were in the game with 3 ends to play but a 5 for the home side sealed the issue.
For Spearwood Boris Yakas (31 to 11) and his rink were unstoppable, Reg Bullen battled manfully but Boris was as his belligerent best, Reg’s rink fought back in the middle stages but a seven on thirteenth end opened up the flood gates, from that point on it was purely academic.
A new look Marin Sokol rink (21 to 15) with Ivan Unkovich as third were very
good winners over John Brewer, the game was over by the seventeenth end however
to John and his rinks credit they fought back to make the aggregate a possibility.
The Blue and Whites had a big winner on the day in the form of Bruno Zarins
(24 to 11), Bruno’s form was excellent his weight control into the head brought
significant returns, he had very good support from his third Frank Killen.
Tonko’s rink has undergone significant changes in the last few weeks and
will be looking for stability and improvement in the coming weeks.
Gary Mitchell
(23 to 16) over a new look rink of Italo D’Asenzo with Dominic Salvetti as
third battled out a close fought game, the lead changed four times through
the game the critical end being the twentieth where the home side scored
a five to clench the aggregate.
