Review One Blue South ROUND FOURTEEN:
The Sunday game between Hilton Park and East Fremantle
was a very tight tussle with East Freo just getting the aggregate on the
last end. This may have confirmed Mosman Park as the team to be promoted
to One White next year.
Realistically it was only Hilton Park with a chance to catch Mossies as they
had two games in hand; this result will now almost guarantee they can't be
caught.
East Fremantle 80 (6) d Hilton Park 78 (2)
This game has been deferred from February 17th until Sunday March 4th due to David Opie’s participation in the Australian Sides/Open series.
East Freo travelled to Hilton on Sunday to play the final game of round 14. It was very pleasing to see so many supporters, both from the clubs involved and visitors from other clubs, including Jarrad Rainoldi from Bowls WA.
The final stages of the game were very close and had all the spectators and players watching from the banks over the last few ends. The aggregate was close during the entire game, with the lead swapping on numerous occasions. The last two ends between Norm Ball (H/P) and Gary Mitchell (E/F) would eventually decide the result.
Hilton welcomed David Opie's return from a successful eastern states campaign, and he responded with a (30 to 11) win over John Brewer's rink. His upshots when in trouble were very telling and converted 8 times to ensure his rink's win.
David's result was offset by Bruno Zarins' rink all of whom played very well to bounce back strongly from their last game to defeat Eddie Clark's rink with a score of (36 to 10).
Travis Simpson played Reg Bullen's rink that also fought back strongly from 19 to 10 down to lose by (22 to 16) in a very good game of pennants.
Gary Mitchell East Fremantle (pictured) leads East Fremantle
to victory and helps Mosman Park to promotion to One White
With two ends to play Hilton held a 1 shot advantage. Gary Mitchell’s' rink was down as the skippers changed over. Mitchell drew shot with his first over a full length end, forcing Ball to drive with no change. Mitchell then calmly drew second shot, which he held onto, a one shot lead to East Fremantle.
Both leaders set up close bowls, with the end changing several times before the skippers changed over to bowl, Mitchell was one down to an opposition toucher. His first bowl missed the target; Ball was close but no change. Mitchell's last bowl was an absolute beauty, resting the shot back bowl to claim shot. Hilton were unable to change the result, with one shot to Mitchell, for a two shot aggregate win to East Fremantle.

Review One Blue South ROUND FOURTEEN:
Mosman Park 96 (7) d Victoria Park 64 (1)
After a slight set back the week before, Mosman Park showed why they have
been competition pace setters all year, easily accounting for Victoria
Park in heavy conditions. From the outset Mossies were always in control
eventually claiming a comfortable 96 – 64 victory.
Peter Cole’s
quartet were to strong for Rod Volich winning (23 – 11), Lester Mortimer’s
strong combination easily accounted for young Vic Park skipper Brenton
Scott (28 – 8) and John Rainoldi’s four were always in control
against the Neville Faulkner lead rink winning (27 – 17).
The only
positive for Vic Park was the impressive victory by Craig Parnham’s
side that defeated Doug Rodgers rink (28 – 18). Manning’s impressive
victory over Spearwood has helped Mossies establish a handy break on top,
leading into the later stages of the season.
Manning 99 (8) d Spearwood 65 (0)
Spearwood travelled to the Eagles nest and the home side swooped on the visitors
with a comprehensive victory collecting 8 points in a powerhouse display.
Manning
have set themselves up well with a run to the finals and will feature prominently
in the mix at the end of the season, what a pity the finals have no relevance
with the top side gaining promotion this is really a shame given sides like Manning
are now gaining momentum at the right end of the season.
For Manning Bill Pengilly (36 to 21) led the charge over Italo D’Ascenzo and
his rink, the visitors led until the 6th end when the home side scored a seven,
from that point on they were never headed.
James Jaworski Manning Eagles (pictured) has gone from strength
to strength playing as skip and is destined to play in the Premier League
James Jaworski (22 to 12) was in superb
touch against Tonko Fiamengo, he had tremendous support from this third Peter
Ker, for much of the game James and Peter ruled supreme they played weighted
shots into the head and the drives paid handsome dividends, James has skippered
his rink to 10 straight wins and it isn’t hard to see why a top division club
would be chasing him. The scores were level on the 14th end but the home side
steadied from that point to record a strong win.
Greg Fairhead (21 to 15) return
to the skippers role has been a bonus for the Eagles, his battle with Boris Yakas
was a close contest until the 11th end when the home side scored a 6, from there
on the visitors were always in command.
Milan Jokic (20 to 17) had a tight game
with Marin Sokol, the scores in the last few ends were close however Milan played
a typical tight game to secure the points.
Melville 83 (8) d Carlisle Lathlain 60 (0)
The Magic were too strong on the day for the home side with
their revised team structure beginning to work, the 8 points are a huge bonus
for Melville placing them seventh on the table, they have now played all
the top sides you would have to expect the Magic to improve this placing
in the coming weeks.
For Melville Nev Brierley (19 to 10) was too strong for Tony Dibello; Nev’s rink
is very consistent with good contributors all round. Glen Beard (26 to 18) overran
Russell Simms, Glen has resumed playing for the Magic he has been a top class
skipper in the past and his experience will be a welcome addition to Melville.
Mal Randall (17 to 14) had a close game with Angelo Scaini, Mal also has resumed
playing after the Christmas break his contribution to the side will also add
to an already improving Melville, and Gary McCormack (21 to 18) had a tight tussle
all day with John Sheridan.
Midland Morrison 97 (8) d Rockingham
61 (0)
Midland hosted Rockingham on a damp and cool day; the greens were not running all that fast and this enabled the home side to avenge their first round defeat at Rockingham. The win has elevated Midland out of the relegation zone however East Fremantle still has to play their deferred game against Hilton Park.
For the home side David Rhodes (21 to 15) over Steve Wales had a close encounter all day, Martin Wattleworth (25 to 15) defeated Keith Gould, Martin’s rink were always in command.
John Snell (29 to 14) was an impressive winner over John Lethlean, and Gary Willis (22 to 17) continues his good form and was too strong for Watson McIlveen.
