Review One Blue South ROUND FIFTEEN:

Mosman Park 88 (7) d East Fremantle 56 (1)

Mosman Park continued their push towards promotion easily accounting for competition battlers East Fremantle. John Rainoldi’s rink led the way for Mossies with a comprehensive (34 – 10) victory over Bruno Zarins team. Lester Mortimer’s quartet continued their splendid form with a comfortable 7 shot victory over Reg Bullen whilst Doug Rodgers ended a two game losing streak also winning by seven.

The only positive for East Fremantle was the win by Gary Mitchell’s four who accounted for Peter Cole’s rink (18 – 10) in a low scoring encounter.

East Fremantle (Jeff Hall and Mike Kendall in particular) deserve a pat on the back for the sensational green that was produced. After the country week break Mossies take on Spearwood in a game of enormous significance.

A win for Mosman Park gives them a stranglehold on promotion, with a win for Spearwood opening the door for themselves and Hilton Park to make one final challenge for that elusive top spot.

Manning 92 (7) d Midland Morrison 75 (1)
Midland Morrison travelled to Manning to be met with another solid performance from the home team. Manning appears to have found the balance they have been searching for all year.
Hilton Park away this week and Mosman Park at home the following week will be the real test for them. Results on Saturday saw Bill Pengilly (21) account for Martin Wattleworth (19) in a very tight contest. Brian Jeppessen (Mr Reliable) and Bill Pengilly both produced solid performances across the day. Martin played some excellent bowls throughout the day to keep his team in the contest.

James Jaworski’s rink continued their excellent season’s performance with a convincing (28 to 16) win over John Snell’s team. Once again the aggressive Jaworski and the consistent Kerr played well weighted bowls to convert or add as required. They were well supported by Terry Finlayson and Steve Salamon at the front end.

Milan Jokic Manning (pictured) one of the hardest to beat skippers anywhere, anytime.

Milan Jokic returned to the big winners circle with a (29 to 17) win over Gary Willis’ rink. Mark Mathews return and his bowls behind the head must have pleased Milan. David Rhodes put in a very solid performance as skipper to help his team take the only points of the day with a (23 to 14) win over Greg Fairhead’s boys.
All Manning players will be looking forward to the game against Hilton Park next week as an indicator of just how great their improvement has been.

Victoria Park 85 (7) d Carlisle Lathlain 80 (1)

After successive losses to top sides Hilton Park and Mosman Park, Victoria Park had a welcome 7-1, 85-80 success at home over Carlisle Lathlain. But it wasn't until the final end was completed that the aggregate was decided. Carlisle fought hard to try and salvage some valuable points to avoid relegation.

The Victoria Park rink of Craig Parnham (skipper), Neville Young, john Hiskins and Ian Davidson beat John Sheridan’s rink (25-16) and Neville Faulkner, with George Beacroft, Jim Holland and Dennis Eastcott, had a (27-19) win over Angelo Scaini. Rod Volich (skipper), Kel Pearce, mal Kinnaird and rob Johnson won by four against Tony Dibello, but had to play the final end three times. Tony was forced to "kill" the end twice to try and salvage the aggregate, but the home side prevailed.

Brenton Scott’s rink of Mike Adams (lead), Noel Staude and John Evans went down (10-26) to Russell Simms and his side. Victoria Park are only 2-1/2 points off fourth-placed Hilton Park, but with that side having two games in hand, the Reds face an uphill battle to try and get into the playoffs.

Melville 97 (7) d Rockingham 67 (1)

Melville continued their excellent form to record a strong victory over a visiting Rockingham side. Nev Brierley (31 to 7) was too strong for Keith Gould’s rink, Neville is a consistent performer for Melville and his returns of late indicate the strength of the home side.
Colin Beard (31 to 10) was impressive over Steve Wales, Colin now has Harry Cole as his third and the combination is proving very impressive, Harry has played as a very successful second for many years but he is now relishing his new role and responsibilities in teaming up with Colin.

While for Rockingham Watson McIlveen (23 to 17) over Mal Randall had too many bowls in the head from his good front end for Mal to contend with Watson is a seasoned performer and he enjoyed the pace of the greens.

Mr Dependable John Lethlean (27 to 16) was too strong for Gary McCormack, John has been the mainstay for the Rocky boys for many years, his performance in this game has again demonstrated his importance to the Rockingham side.
