To round of the season we have to have an Overall Bowls Evaluation (OBE) isn’t that catchy; to praise the victors, consol the vanquished and encourage the ones that will no longer be among us.
To the victors the spoils go well done Mossies to the vanquished there is always next year and to the ones that are no longer with us good luck and hope to see you soon.
Mosman Park:
13 Wins 5 Losses
Mosman Park were the trend setters for most of the 2006/7 season, their performance
across the board ensured they were promoted to One White, the questions were
raised at the end of the home and away first by Manning and then by Spearwood
which would have been disturbing to the Mosman Park management.
They recruited
well prior to the start of the season and picked up some handy players when
the season got under way.
Next year will be a much more difficult and I am sure they will be looking at some recruits to bolster their sides. They will be buoyed by Dalkeith’s and South Perth’s performance this year in One White; their overall performance could be judged as “worked hard but will have to concentrate when challenged”.
Spearwood:
13 Wins 5 Losses
Spearwood finished the home and away rounds second for two years running.
Severe losses to Victoria Park and then to Manning in the second round cost
them dearly.
Spearwood do not actively recruit but prefer to concentrate
on home grown talent, in the last three years this strategy has earned them
a top of the table finish once and second twice; at a quick glance it appears
their club policy is working however you would have to say that if they had
recruited they might now be in One White!
With Boris Yakas as their strongest performer Spearwood will need to provide much more support for their spiritual leader. Their overall performance could be judged, as “working to capacity”.
Manning Eagles:
11 Wins 6 Losses 1 draw
Manning performance in the early part of the year
let them down, James Jaworski was the stand out performer all year for the
Eagles, the Manning side will be working overtime to retain his services,
a quality player of his calibre is hard to find and even harder to keep.
Manning will regroup for next seasons tilt in the knowledge they have the
players to succeed and will be much more determined in 2007/8. Their overall
performance could be judged as “Not working to capacity”.
Hilton Park:
10 Wins 8 Losses
Hilton Park would be disappointed with their season, prior to the enforced break
due to State side participation break they were 9 points from the top position,
they were out of pennant bowls from that point on for 4 weeks, that wasn’t a
good situation to be in.
With players of the calibre of David Opie and Travis
Simpson they are good enough for the rough and tumble of One White, they will
rue their missed chances and look forward for better results; their overall performance
could be judged as “capable of greater effort”.
Rockingham:
8 Wins 9 Losses
Rockingham by their own standards were below what they would expect, they played
well on their home patch but when travelling it didn’t suit them as well; they
have their regular stalwarts that contribute each year but no new talent to speak
of.
Next season they will come up against one of their old foes in Safety Bay;
those games are sure to please it provides another club with a familiar surface
i.e. synthetic and it will help the Rocky boys their performance can be judged
as “average performance must work harder”.
Vic Park:
8 Wins 9 Losses
The Park were always hovering around the middle of the table for most
of the year, they would be pleased to have held the division having been promoted
last season, they have their regular contributors with a number of very good
players among them, they will be building on this years performance and will
be well placed by season end.
Their overall performance could be judged as” solid
work all year could do better”.
Melville:
7 Wins 9 Losses 1 Draw
They were the biggest under achievers all season, they promised so much but were
unable to deliver; their talent pool is abundant and the possibilities are endless,
other clubs dream of having the facilities Melville are blessed with and to not
exploit them is a shame.
Melville to their credit in the second half improved
significantly (with the inclusion of Glen Beard), its amazing how this one player
and a different approach by the rest of the team made to the Magic fortunes,
they now will be aware of the ability of a number of players and will make more
use of them in the next season.
Their overall performance could be judged as” disappointing
performance capable of much improvement”.
Midland Morrison:
6 Wins 11 Losses
Midland were promoted last season, they went through a amalgamation opened a
new club with unfamiliar surroundings, they struggled to come to terms with the
division all year, however they did have some stellar performances namely beating
Mosman Park on their patch.
They will take heart from the fact they saved themselves
from the dreaded drop zone and prevented the all to common up one year out the
next, they are to be congratulated on persevering and Martin Wattleworth will
be encouraged by that, he will have to marshal his troops for another tilt next
season.
I am sure they will be hoping it will be in the North of the river Blue,
their performance could be judged as “tried to please but must work harder”.
East Fremantle:
5 Wins 12 Losses
A disappointing result for the Blue and Whites, they were unsettled from the start and couldn’t get the drive they desperately needed to prevent the inevitable.
They have been a regular in One Gold / Blue for many years and are sure to reassess
their needs and look to returning to First Division as quickly as possible, Bruno
Zarins worked tirelessly to turn around their on green performances but the task
was beyond him.
He will be looking for stronger contributions from his charges
to erase this chapter from their memories, their overall performance could be
judged as ”did not work hard enough must try harder”.
Carlisle Lathlain
4 Wins 13 Losses
Carlisle have had a horrid season, they did not play well in the first half of
the season however they did challenge some of the top of the table clubs towards
the end of the home and away.
Notably Manning at home for a stirring victory
to end the season on a high note, they will take solace from that game and will
no full well they are capable of mixing it with the better clubs and that will
keep them in good stead next season as they try to regain lost ground.
They have
a core of seasoned campaigners and it wont be long before we see them again in
First Division, their performance can be judged as “poor performance can do better”.
