REVIEW ONE BLUE SOUTH ROUND 7

Mosman Park 81 (6) d Spearwood 77 (2)

Top of the table clash at Spearwood, with Mosman Park too strong for the home side in very difficult conditions. Mosman Park won convincingly on two rinks to overrun Spearwood in the last ends of the game to move to the top of the table, the Fremantle Doctor couldn’t work its magic for Spearwood on this occasion.

The John Rainoldi rink (30 to 17) were far too strong for the Marin Sokol, John took a few ends to master the conditions but from the 10th end John and Jarrod playing third were the masters, playing weighted shots to perfection the game quickly changed for the visitors.
Lester Mortimer’s rink also was big winners (27 to 12) over Tonko Fiamego and his side; Lester had Don Evans as a second (he appeared to be oblivious to the wind), they were in command from beginning to end.

Italo D’Asenzo and his rink were almost the match winners for Spearwood (31 to 8), their game with Peter Cole’s rink was one sided from the start to finish they mastered the conditions extremely well and almost pulled off a remarkable home side win.

Boris Yakas and Doug Rogers had a close encounter all day; the scores were never far apart, Boris’s side lifted for the last 3 ends to win by one shot (17 to 16) and to secure another valuable point for Spearwood.

East Fremantle 86 (7) d Carlisle Lathlain 72 (1)

Well at last East Freo had a win to get away from the bottom two.

Trevor Scorer E.Fremantle (pictured) is a strong skip and usually pretty hard to toss

Midway through the game it was very close with Carlisle just in front on the aggregate. Conditions were tricky with a southerly breeze instead of a usual sou-wester. Trevor Scorer returned as a skipper after playing several games as a three after his holiday. After six ends he was 4 - 11 down, but recovered to be in front on the 16th end and winning 22 to 15 against Dennis Green.

Reg Bullen's rink started well, before being losing the lead and then drawing level on the 14th before controlling the final last five ends to run out 17 to 14 against Frank Giancristafaro (Frank’s first game for the season as a skipper).
Bruno Zarin’s rink had an 8 to 1 lead after 4 ends when Tony DiBello's rink hit their straps to lead 13 to 8 after 10 ends. After winning 9 of the last 11 ends, the home rink won 31 to 16.
Dave Cotten's rink underwent a few changes; however a slow start when they were 16 to 1 down after 8 ends, proved a large handicap before the game stabilised with John Henderson's rink winning 27 to 16.

However a welcome 7 points for the day which was appreciated by the home side.

Hilton Park 93 (7) d Manning 72 (1)

Hilton Park makes the move towards the top of the table with a strong win against the home side Manning in difficult conditions on a very good green.
Travis Simpson’s rink dominates the day with a strong performance (37 to12) against Greg Fairhead’s side. David Opie struggled against James Jaworkski’s going down (15 to 28). Norm Ball’s rink had a good win over Milan Jokic in a low scoring encounter (16 to 10) wining the last 4 ends, while the reliable Eddy Clarke battled strongly to down Bill Pingley (25 to 22).

Victoria Park 86 (6.5) d Rockingham 76 (1.5)
In a game that could have gone either way up until the last few bowls, Victoria Park took a 6-1/2 point win at home over Rockingham and edged within two points of the top four.
A six-shot win to Rod Volich, with Troy Scott, Mal Kinnaird and Rob Johnson and Craig Parnham's team of Steve Venables, George Beacroft and Damien Jardine scored a five-shot win to give the Reds the aggregate 86-76.

Steve Venables Vic Park (pctured) playing three and celebrates the win on Saturday

Both Brian Barnfield's team of John Hiskins, Noel Staude and John Evans and Neville Young's team of Dennis Eastcott, Gavin Faulkner and Tom Reid, tried hard to make a clean sweep for the home side. Brian Barnfield and Nev Young had to play "big bowls" late in the game or the aggregate could have gone the other way. Brian Barnfield drew 19-19 and Nev Young went down narrowly 19-20. Victoria Park plays an important game away to Melville this week.

Midland Morrison 75 (5) d Melville 74 (3)

Midland Morrison travelled to Melville and upset the home side in trying conditions on a very good green to secure their first aggregate win for the season, the win was not confirmed until the last end of the game and it required a measure to separate the sides, while the Magic swing some changes in the team line up looking for more stability.

For Melville the Neville Brierley rink were too good for John Snell eventually running out victors (19 to 17).
David Rhodes strong performance by his rink provided the foundation for Midland and the eventual one-shot aggregate victory going to a measure on the last end over Colin Fleay (26 to 13).
Martin Wattleworth and Brad Alexander fought hard all day to give Brad one shot victory (19 to 18), while Gary McCormack’s rink with two new faces continued to improve following last weeks draw to run out winners over George Tibbles (23 to 14) and almost provide the home team the extra 4 points.
