REVIEW ONE BLUE SOUTH ROUND 8

Melville 79 (5) d Victoria Park 76 (3)

Victoria Park lost the chance to get within striking distance of the leaders when they were beaten, albeit only losing the aggregate on the last end, by a reorganised Melville side.
The win by home side Melville kept them from being bottom of the One Blue South table. They are now in front of three sides, although only 1-1/2 points ahead of cellar dwellers, Carlisle Lathlain.

Victoria Park -- who had won three aggregates in a row to get back into finals contention after a slow start to the season -- are now equal fourth with Manning and Rockingham, but are 14 points off top side Mosman Park and 10 away from Spearwood (second) and eight behind Hilton Park (third).

With only Neville Young's rink still on the green playing against John Trewhella, with three ends to complete, Victoria Park were holding the aggregate -- rinks skippered by Brian Barnfield and Craig Parnham had already won against Nev Brierley and Gary McCormack.
While the final result wasn't decided until the last bowl of the day, John Trewhella's rink fought strongly to get within two of Young at the end of their game and got their side home by three shots.

Rockingham 96 (7) d East Fremantle 76 (1)
Rockingham equal fourth on the table too consistent for the visiting East Fremantle side desperate to get out of the relegation zone.

Rockingham’s top skipper Keith Gould with his team of George Finnie, Brian Ramsdale and Kevin Mathews got away to great start to be 13-0 up after 6 ends and continued their form with a good win over Trevor Scorer 24-14 whilst John Lethlean got back on the winning list with a big win over Dave Cotton 30-16.

Reg Bullen who had the wool on Watson McIlveen all day and was nine shots up after the 18th end lost 10 shots over the next three ends to loose by one shot.
Steve Wales although 7 shots down after 13 ends got back to be 4 shots up after 17 ends but then proceeded to drop a 7 on the next end to Bruno Zarin (missed an eight by a millimetre) to eventually go down by 5 shots.

Midland Morrison 75 (6) d Hilton Park 74 (2)

Hilton Park travel woes getting to Midland Morrison are upstaged by one of the tightest finishes in the round. Pennant games don’t get any tighter than this.
Three games finished, 83 ends played and the aggregate is all square. Eddie Clarke’s rink finishes first 7 shots up (21 – 14). Then stand in skipper Les Onley finishes 9 shots down (16 – 25) and Travis Simpson finishes 4 down (17 – 21) but Norm Ball is 6 up (20 – 14) going into the last end. The aggregate is there for whoever wins the end.
Fortunes fluctuated before Midland’s third Rudi Martin drew an excellent shot on the wide hand which Norm Ball narrowly missed with a running shot which would have given Hilton the points.
All in all it wasn’t to be Hilton’s day as the team minibus broke down on the way to Midland leaving half the team scrambling to get to the venue.
Well done to Midland who can take heart from their second win in a row taking them off the bottom of the ladder.

Mosman Park 80 (7) d Manning 67 (1)

One Blue South pacesetters Mosman Park took on fourth placed Manning in a very important game that would have a big bearing on the make up of the top four going into the Christmas break.
The game was a closely fought encounter with no more then half a dozen shots separating both sides for the majority of the game until Mosman Park kicked clear in the home straight.
Peter Cole’s new look rink recorded a very impressive 26 to 12 victory over Peter Bowden’s quartet with John Rainoldi’s four just as impressive easily accounting for Milan Jokic 25 to 7.
Lester Mortimer played two rippers on the last end to give his rink a 20-19 victory over the always competitive Bill Pengilly.
Mortimer’s four of Wyn Ferris, Don Evans and Sam Felton is the competitions leading rink with 7 wins, 1 loss plus 51 shots.
James Jaworski’s team was the shinning light for Manning recording an easy 29-9 victory over Doug Rodgers. Jaworski always held a big lead throughout the game and this is what helped Manning remain in the contest for nearly 75 ends.

Spearwood 74 (7) d Carlisle Lathlain 57 (1)

Spearwood travelled to Carlisle Lathlain and pick up a handy 7 points on the usual top class Carlisle greens.
Tony Di Bello (18 to 15) was the only winner on the day for Carlisle against Marin Sokol; Tony had a day to remember on numerous occasions he was called on to play end saving shots which he played with deadly accuracy, the 20th end saw him 6 down on the change over, he converted to be 1 up with his 2 bowls and secured a point for the home side.

Tonko Fiamengo (19 to 14) accounted for Frank Giancristofaro the scores were tied at 8 all on the 12 end, however Tonko with Ken Nadilo playing superbly as his third powered away to win convincingly.

Italo D’Ascenzo (18 to 14) proved too strong for Angelo Scaini, Jimmy Cook playing second for Angelo had a top game however Italo’s side following the changes in personal, Dominic Salvetti promoted to play second with Brian Ciccotosto returning to a lead role while Ivan Unkovich had a very good game as third, the scores were level on the 8th end, but from that point Italo’s side maintained the lead to the end.

Boris Yakas (22 to 14) against John Henderson was in his usual match winning form, John’s side fought back to lead 10 – 7 on the 11th end, however with his usual team members in place Boris recovered the lead on the 12th end with a 4 and from that point was not troubled to round out a good win for Spearwood.
