THE OBSERVER
ONE WHITE PREVIEW OF THE FINALS

April 6 , 2006

Kalamunda v Morley
Round 1
Kalamunda 86 (6) d Morley 80 (2) at Kalamunda
Round 10
Morley 87 (7½) d Kalamunda 58 (½) at Morley

These teams met in the very first game of the season and they could well meet in the last game. In the two previous clashes, Morley has faired the better.
J Armstrong has won both games while G Grieve has registered a win and a draw. For Kalamunda, R Eddy and N Griffen are yet to have a victory opposed to Morley. Statistically speaking Morley has a decided advantage, however in turn Kalamunda have the home ground advantage.

Wayne Neilson Morley (pictured above) has had a great season for Morley

Kalamunda has cleared their biggest hurdle already as they have attained 1 Red status for next year. Morley still has this fight ahead with perhaps one of two other determined combatants to meet in either Kardinya or Gosnells.
So in one corner we have the relaxed Kalamunda opposed to Morley still with their main objective ahead of them. Who has the greatest advantage? Not being a sports psychologist, I have no idea. (A bit like the sports psychologist at the Dockers) This promises to be a great game of bowls.
Neil Payne Kalamunda (pictured) sure to have a big bearing on the outcome of the finals

Kardinya v Gosnells
Round 1
Kardinya 81 (6) d Gosnells 74 (2) at Gosnells
Round 10 Kardinya 76 (5) d Gosnells 75 (3) at Kardinya

As fate would have it both these sides also met in the first round of the season. Both Kardinya and Gosnells have great incentive to win this game to keep their hopes alive for their 1 Red aspirations.
T Ball (Kardinya) has recorded two big wins against Gosnells 31/13 and 31/10, however Gosnells B Cruickshank’s scores of 30/16 and 24/10 aren’t too bad either.
With apologies to all team members it appears the skippers of both sides will have a huge impact on the final result. The winning team will feel confident they can perform well in the final, whoever their opponent may be and they’ll be striving with all their might to be still alive on Sunday at Carlisle/Lathlain.

SUMMARY
The 1 White competition, similar to the 1 Red is entering a great finals scenario and in the grand finals there’ll be no home ground advantage and no carpet. In both divisions I’m expecting the winners of the 1st Semi Final to play a big hand in the Grand Finals and that is my cop-out tip. I wish all participants good bowling in the finals.

CONCLUSION
I second Tim’s comments regarding Sherro and Mike Zusman’s contributions to the promotion of lawn bowls in WA.
They are tremendous supporters of the game.
