Murray's Preview on One Blue North.
Round ELEVEN
February 2, 2006
The stranglehold that Osborne Park and Dalkeith had on this division this time
last week has been weakened by the shock loss of both sides. Bassendean have
again loomed as serious challengers whilst Sorrento, Bedford, Morrison Park & Cambridge
will have to not only rely upon winning but also have other results fall in
their favour
GAME OF THE DAY
Sorrento (4th) vs Dalkeith (1st)
Dalkeith easily defeated Sorrento in the first round but will find that Sorrento
have improved vastly. The Swans will also enjoy the home ground advantage.
Dalkeith are led by very talented skippers who dominate the leading skippers
in the division.Leading skipper Dinko Golem
(1 loss from 10 games +71 shots) , 4th placed Mark Krajancic (3 losses from
10 games + 29) & 5th placed John O'Meehan (3 losses from 10 games + 23).
In comparison Sorrento's skippers Murray, Hammond & Anderson have all
lost 4 from 10 games for the season with a + 38, + 34 & + 17 respectively.
Hans Correlje Sorrento(pictured above ) A stalwart of
the club and still loves a good game of bowls
Sorrento will have their work cut out for them but I am confident we can
cause an upset in what should be a much better contest than the first round.
Sorrento 6-2
Bassendean (3rd) vs Cambridge (7th
As a result of last weeks fixtures, Bassendean may have to suspend plans to
drop players back to the second division. The boys from Basso are well and
truly back in the hunt. They are well served by a very even team that is led
by Tom Norac and his rink.
Tom is currently the second most successful skipper
in the division and will carry the hopes of Bassendean into this game and beyond.
I have a good deal of respect for Cambridge and their players but I cannot
see them beating Bassendean for the second time this season.
Bassendean 7-1
Doubleview (8th) vs Bedford (5th)
I think Bedford will win this one and win it well. The one problem I see for
Bedford is that any discord in the top side could have a flow on effect and
unsettle a balanced line-up.
Bedford are brilliantly served by Dave Scott (3rd
most successful skipper in the division) and other quality players throughout
their entire sixteen. I saw them first hand last week and could not help but
wonder why they are not pressing harder for promotion. I checked their record
and they have lost many close games including TWO where they have won on three
rinks. Doubleview at home will be competitive but their form does not inspire
a great deal of confidence.
Bedford 7-1
Morrison Park (6th) vs Nollamara (10th)
Nollamara caused the boilover of the season as
we saw the last placed side obliterate the top side (Osborne Park) last week.
Sorry, (Posty) I cannot see you winning by 30 this week and I warn you that
Morrison Park at home are an entirely different prospect. I think Morrison
Park (soon to be Midland) will re-group and win this one well.
Lindsay Hill Nollamara (pictured) good skipper
for Nollamara and in a happy mood
Morrison Park 7-1
Osborne Park (2nd) vs Sportsmen's (9th)
Sporties, you guys cannot take a trick. I am glad we are not fronting up to
Osborne Park on their home ground after last weeks shemozzle. Who would want
to play Dante Mariani or Keith Guelfi this week? With Doug Eaton and his team
doing what they do best (winning games ) & the ever reliable Rance Dewson
I cannot see Ossie Park dropping this one.
That having been said, stalwarts
such as John Hooper, Les Clow, Colin Smith, John O'Sullivan along with the
talents of Steve "Smooth' Beech and Mark "Sharky" McDonald will
give it their best shot. Good luck guys.
Osborne Park 7-1
