Murray's Preview on One Blue North.
Round FOURTEEN
February 23, 2006
Due to competing time demands I provide my preview this week with intentional
brevity.
GAME OF THE DAY
Doubleview vs Morrison Park
First Round Morrison Park (6) 82 def Doubleview (2) 81
In the first round only 1 shot separated these two teams at the conclusion
of 84 ends. Given the the two teams form from last week we could see the
same scenario at Doubleview on Saturday. These are two evenly matched teams
and it is a toss of a coin in my view as to who may win.
I am a fan of several
of the players from both clubs but if forced to select I will go for Doubleview
because of all the people that told me that I do not know what I am talking
about in relation to "home ground advantage."
Nollamara vs Cambridge
First Round Cambridge (7) 81 def Nollamara (1) 76
If memory serves me well I think this is the game that Nollamara recorded their
first point for the season. Unbelievable really given that it was round 5.
Nollamara have improved greatly since whilst Cambridge have been very steady
all year.
Last week Nollamara got pasted 0-8 whilst Cambridge gave Sorrento their biggest
hiding of the year. Given logic that only I can understand I am selecting Nollamara
in one of the upsets of the year. Another reason is 'home ground advantage".
Sportsmen's vs Dalkeith
First Round Dalkeith (8) 112 def Sportsmen's (0) 65
The first time these two sides met it was an ugly score line for Sportsmen's.
I do not think it will be much prettier come Saturday evening.
Dalkeith by
plenty.
Bedford vs Bassendean
First Round Bassendean (6) 77 def Bedford (2) 71
Bassendean must win to keep their premiership hopes alive. Bedford have lost
key skipper Peter Hunter to the top side and have gained the services of
the very talented John Carlsen and perhaps Shane Shaw. Bassendean have too
much to lose and as such I think they will win in a good contest.
Sorrento vs Osborne Park
First Round Osborne Park (6) 72 def Sorrento (2) 64
Like Bassendean, if Osborne Park lose this one I suspect they have no chance
whatsoever of promotion. In the first round it was a very good contest until
Osborne Park broke away over the last few ends. I left very impressed with
Doug Eaton's rink who were the catalyst for the win. I would love another crack
at Doug come Saturday.
I cannot pick against my own club so it is a Sorrento
win as I know there are many players keen to atone for last weeks effort at
Cambridge.
