Round Five

December 4, 2005

3/5 is all I could manage this week with Osborne Park & Morrison Park winning against predictions.

GAME OF THE DAY

Osborne Park DEF Sorrento
Sorrento travelled to Osborne Park where they suffered an 8 shot loss in a 2-6 result. Osborne Park's win was set up by the rink of "Chalkey White" with an 11 shot win over Brian Collins. For the visitors Richard Bone (leader) was outstanding but his good work was largely undone by the very talented Ian Payne playing as a second for "Chalkey".
Ian's game was superb and a great testament to his attitude after being left out of the first division red side because of his pending unavailability. Both Brian Collins and "Chalkey" played some terrific shots and were good contributors for their teams. All other games were quite close with Doug Eaton's team of Mick Martin, Con Tskoko and ex Innaloo top liner Ben Poggi producing the best team effort I have seen all year to defeat yours truly rink 21-15.

Ben Poggi (pictured) played a top game for Osborne Park

Alan Anderson (Sorrento) was outstanding in his win, whilst John Hammond defeated Dante Mariani in a solid effort that was assisted by a 7 count about three quarters into the match.

Morrison Park DEF Doubleview by 6-2 by a solitary shot 82-81. The good news for Morrison Park was that the under performing rinks of Rolinik and Simonetti provided the catalyst for the victory. If they continue in that vein of form, Morrison Park are a definite threat for promotion.

Cambridge DEF Nollamara as expected but the closeness of the final score line 81-76 was something of a pleasant surprise. Whilst the end result was 7-1 Nollamara's performance gives them some hope going forward. It is important for the integrity of the competition that Nollamara become competitive and I hope they do.

Bassendean DEF Bedford
Bassendean in a close encounter win6/2 --77/71 Tom Norac,M. Heurur, P.Hutchinson, S. Trowl had the better of Adi Mayer and his rink with a great display and what a powerful lineup Tom is in charge of, with Marcel Huerur as his third. I dont think that Tom will lose too many games this season.
Kevin Beaglehole, W. Jones, Cook, S. Black had to many answers against Cliff Graybrook setting up the win 25/12 for the Bombers, with a top of the shelf performance.

Dave Scott had a great game against Gordon Grey and it was Dave's best game for the year, he was backed up by the reliable "Rolls" Royce Hamilton, who had had a very good year so far. The rink winning 27/15

"Rolls" Royce Hamilton (pictured) has plenty of reason to smile with a great game against Bassendean

Peter Hunter and his boys had a tough game against top line skipper John Lynch winning 21/16 with a gritty performance

Dalkeith
DEF Sportsmans Premiership favourites Dalkeith/Nedlands bullied Sportsmen's 8-0 (112-85) with star recruit Tony Skoric and his very solid rink winning 40-10. This is now the testing time for Sportsmen's to "hang tough" mentally after overcoming the initial shock of the mass exodus of players. They have to support each other to ensure confidence levels do not drop to a level whereby they are incapable of being competitive. I am sure they will..
