Murray's Review on One Blue North.
Round Six

December 11, 2005

Well we are now a third of the way through the season and three clubs have made a clear break. Pre-season I tipped that Dalkeith, Osborne Park and Bassendean would finish in the top three and that is exactly how it has panned out to this point. However I have seen enough of these sides first hand to realise that there is not the gulf between them and some other sides as the table may suggest. Over the next few weeks these top sides play each other which may see the gap narrow. That having been said I think one of these sides will finish on top. I am just not sure which one.

GAME OF THE DAY

Dalkeith vs Bedford (5-3) 76-65

For the second time in a month Bedford has won on three rinks but lost the aggregate. The culprit rink for Bedford was once again the rink led by Cliff Graybrook losing 14-33 to Dinko Golem. This is going to be one bad headache for the Bedford selectors but moves are now nearly compulsory against a man who has been a legend at the club for many years.

Another good performance from Dave Scott who played John O'Meehan in a hard fought contest to win 19/15. John O'Meehan showed he is a very good skipper, saving many shots when down. The other members of Johns rink, Ross Donald and Alek Gryta played extremely well and we can see good reasons why Dalkeith are going so well at the moment.
Tony Garrett had a huge game as did Dave Scott.

Kevin Burke played his first game of the season and I guess that they don't come tougher to beat than Marko, winning 16/12
Peter Hunter is getting plenty out of his side and they had a good win against Tony Skoric 17/16 in another tough encounter for his side.

Osborne Park vs Morrison Park (7-1) 100-67

Osborne Park stamped their credentials as genuine premiership hopes and at the same time probably ended Morrison Park's chances of finishing on top. Morrison Park started the season in very good form with the rinks of Wattleworth and Nattalotto winning consistently.

Chalkey White (pictured) Topline skipper for Osborne Park has a huge win 35/8.

These two rinks have started to lose and with the continued poor form of former State singles winner Phil Simonetti and his rink Morrison park may have to do some soul searching. For the victors "Chalkey" White (pictured) and his team continue to dominate 35-8 and Dante Mariani made a welcome return to the winners list with a comprehensive 33-15 win.

Sorrento vs Nollamara (7-1) 98-55

Sorrento proved too strong at home with two rinks recording big wins. John Hammond won 29-10 with outstanding leader Tim Sansom (38) playing a superb game for the winners. (Tim is new to the game and for all you hackers out there he plays off scratch in golf where he was an A grade pennant player for Nedlands before being bitten by the "bowls bug"). Tim Murray won 31-14 courtesy of a good team effort highlighted by a brilliant game from Ian Linford playing third. Both other games were close all day before Brian Collins broke away late for an eight shot win whilst Brian Saul (Nollamara) played very well to help his side win by one shot.

Bassendean vs Doubleview (6-2) 80-71

Bassendean also confirmed their strength with John Lynch and Kevin Beagelhole winning 24-10 & 28-12 respectively. For Kevin the win had greater significance because he won against the previously unbeaten team of John Nicholls. Danny Slavich was very good of "the View" in taking Gorden Grey apart 27-10 but unfortunately it was not enough to help the aggregate.

Sportsmen's vs Cambridge (7.5 - 0.5) 88-65

You little champions. Once again Sportsmen's have confounded the tipsters by winning easily against a good side in Cambridge. Cambridge's defeat ended any chance they may have had of finishing on top and places them near the relegation zone. Congratulations to all the Sportsmen's players.
