Murray's Review on One Blue North.
Round Eight
January 9, 2006
GAME OF THE DAY
A very good round of fixtures again in the One Blue North Division.
Morrison Park upset Bassendean, Doubleview returned to the winning list at
the expense of Cambridge, Sorrento and Bedford won as expected against Sportsmen's
and Nollamara respectively and Osborne Park prevailed in the top of the table
clash with Dalkeith/Nedlands.
Osborne Park defeated Dalkeith/Nedlands (6-2) 81-78
As predicted this game was an absolute beauty. The rinks of Dewson and Skoric
drew as did the rinks of White and Golem. Krajancic defeated Eaton by three
but this was erased by Mariani and his team accounting for John O'Meehan by
six. The win has moved Osborne Park to the top of the ladder and there is
no doubt that it would have boosted confidence in the Park camp.
Rance Dewson Osborne Park (pictured) great player for Osborne Park over the
years and man who loves his game of bowls
However, Dalkeith are too good to write off and came away happy with their
efforts under the circumstances. Osborne Park led all day with the margin
getting out to about 25 shots. At one point Tony Skoric was 6/16 down, John
O'Meehan 7/17 down and Dinko Golem trailed by five. The good news for Osborne
Park was that Doug Eaton also fought back from a long way down and picked
up five vital shots over the last two ends.
A small concern for Dalkeith that whilst they have picked up many aggregates
8-0 against lower placed sides their two defeats have been to sides placed
in the top four.
Morrison Park defeated Bassendean (7-1) 81-70
Morrison Park are the real enigma of this competition. On Saturday they
easily accounted for Bassendean in what was something of an upset. Bassendean
selector
Steve Black reported that he was extremely disappointed with the result
as it has severely dented Bassendean's chances of finishing on top. With
the
current One Blue (North & South) arrangement coming under increasing negative
scrutiny I agree with Steve's sentiment that too many clubs in this colour
have nothing to play for so early into the season if you slip out of the race
of finishing on top.

rink win of Joe Rolink
Doubleview defeated Cambridge (6-2) 84-72
The big brother dominance that Doubleview has held over Cambridge in the
first division red for many years has drifted into the second side with
Doubleview
accounting for Cambridge. Doubleview's win can be largely attributed to
Stan "Spragger" Curtis
and his teams 28-18 win over Lindsay Bennett.
Sorrento defeated Sportsmen's (7-1) 105-47
Not a lot to report about this game and it can be summarised with "Sorrento
were just too good for Sportsmen's on the day".
Mike Murray Sorrento (pictured) A player with huge potential to make it
to the top
For Sorrento our young players Jarrod O'Donoghoe, Tim Sansom, Gary Dennis,
Michael Murray were outstanding and are going to play a very big part in
a bright future for the club. Experienced players Ian Linford, John Hammond,
Alan Anderson and Neil Adams also enjoyed good games. For the visitors Tony
Porter, and John O'Sullivan were standouts.
Bedford defeated Nollamara (6-2) 92-77
As expected Bedford proved too strong for Nollamara at home. However, Bedford
did not have it all their own way and recorded wins on two rinks. Cliff
Graybrook and Bedford's leading skipper Dave Scott ensured victory with
18 and 19 shot
wins respectively. For the visitors Brian Saul and John Wardrop recorded
solid wins.
This was a game that Bedford would have thought 8 points was possible but
Brian Saul had other ideas and really got going against the very strong
rink of Kevin Bourke to win 27/12, best player for the rink were Hooper
and Brian Saul
Brian Wardrop is usually hard to beat when he plays Bedford and Peter Hunter's
rink found out how hard that can be, losing in a hard fought game 15/22
Dave Scott returned after missing
the previous game and played an oustanding game as did Tony Garrett and
Steve Rushforth who came into the side for this game which saw a win to
Dave Scott 32/19.
Tony Garrett Bedford, (pictured) very solid game and
a valuable player for Bedford as a second
Cliff Graybrook returned the winners list with an impressive scoreline of
33/15 to make certain of victory to Bedford.
For the record I selected 4 out of 5 missing out on the Doubleview-Cambridge
result.
