Congrats to Cockburn for their great win in the final of the Club Champion
of club Championship fours today played at North Beach Bowling club. They
defeated
Bedford 26-15

L/R: Max Brown {skip} Jim Connor, John McElroy, John Ravilich.
L/R: John Bills. Dave Scott, Kevin Bourke {skip} John McGrath.
When I arrived the score was 9-9, then moved to 11-10 on the 11th end in favour
of Bedford. The skippers were playing very well and both were under a lot of
pressure with
honors even
between them.
The 14th end spelt disaster for Bedford when they played a very loose end.
dropping a four and from that time on were in trouble.
Cockburn played their shots extremely well when required and changed things
in their favour, generally Bedford were out gunned by a more consistent Cockburn
team.
Best for Cockburn, in an even team display, was skip Max Brown, while Jim Connor
played some very telling bowls. Cockburn always responded when in trouble and
had no passengers in the last half of
the game,
all contributed to their winning position.
Best for Bedford was skipper Kevin Bourke who was rarely up on the crossover,
and if he was, Max usually had first bowl and changed it.. Bedford had some
good bowls in the head but not often enough to put pressure on the Cockburn
boys.
From the 11th end on, Cockburn scored 16 shots to Bedford 4 shots without
playing the last end, and that tells the story.
