Sorrento Master Singles 2005

Trystan Smallacombe is the Sorrento Master singles Champion for 2005 winning 25/10 against Ross Dempsey.
Trystan Smallacombe put on a powerful exhibition of lawns bowls this afternoon to leave Ross Dempsey in his wake. The game started out with Trystan racing to a 9/0 lead by the 6th end. His draw power was too good for Ross. By the 9th end Trystan was leading 13/2 and doing it very comfortably.
By the 12th end he was leading 16/6, when the lady in charge of the after match function said to me she didn't know whether to put the sausage rolls in the oven so as to be ready for the after match activities.

I thought to myself that tho Ross was in trouble he has fought his way out of trouble before, maybe best for the lady to wait a while.

However the lady said she would put the sausage rolls in the oven because she felt the end was near, this proved to be the correct decision as Trystan was playing a brilliant game with such good weight control in what were not easy conditions. It was all over in 20 ends. Trystan has confirmed that he is in the very top bracket of players in W.A after such a great display.
Ross Dempsey who was a semi-finalist at Victoria Park and Runner up here can be proud of his acheivements and showed he is a fighter to the end. Well done Ross.

SEMI-FINAL ONE
Ross Dempsey V Neil Payne
I arrived at Sorrento when Neil Payne was leading 14/4 on the 10th end. From this time on Ross Dempsey really got his game going and started to land his bowls around the jack a lot more often, he got right back into the match to be 14/15 down on the 16th end and from here on and had better weight than Neil to lead 23/18. Ross went on to win the game 25/21

SEMI-FINAL TWO
Trystan Smallacombe V Gary Caffell
A terrific game to watch, when I arrived the score was 8/8 on the 12th end with both players playing extremely well.
Gary scored a three on the 13th end to lead 11/8. Well that was the end of the day for Gary because he never scored again, he appeared to lose his touch.
The next 10 ends saw Trystan bowl brilliantly, with so many bowls played to perfection, either draw or just over the draw, forcing Gary to play on many occasions, with running shots that never connected. Trystan wins 25/11 after 23 ends.
Trystan was so good, and a repeat of this form was going to land him the prize money and the title.
