Rhett Butler is the Victoria Park Master singles Champion for
2005 winning 25/9 against Clive Adams.
Today at the Victoria Park Bowling club, we saw a terrific Rhett Butler
produce one of the highest standard games a player could produce today. Clive
Adams just had no answer to the pinpoint accuracy of the Rhett Butler draw
game.
I have seen Clive play better than he did today in this final, but he could
not produce the bowls he is capable of.
The game started out with both taking turns winning the early ends up until
the 8th end where the score was 8/7 in favour of Rhett.
From that time on it was all up hill for Clive, no matter what he did or how
close he got, Rhett was inside him and using three of his four bowls per end.
This
continued on with Clive chasing, chasing and still chasing.
The game ended with Rhett winning 25/9 and I would have to say that Rhett Butler
could not play a better game than he produced today. This was right up there
with the best of the best.
Clive Adams who is a wonderful sportman, can play better that he did today,
was full of praise for Rhetts performance giving him full credit. "Awesome"
is the way Clive described Rhetts performance.
Rhett, after the game said "this
was as good as it gets Sherro" and a very happy man he was to be taking
home the trophy for this prestigious event.

SEMI-FINAL ONE
Clive Adams V David Opie
This was another great game and it is good to see these two young bucks going
at it head to head.
David Opie got out to a handy lead, 10/3 0n the 9th end. Clive caught him
to make it 10/10 on the 13th end. The bowls up till this end were really
good with both playing telling bowls.
From here on it was much the same all the way till the 29th end where the
scores were tied 24/24.
There was always some drama in the game, both played so well when
they were down on the head and converted so often with precision bowls
The last end either player could have won it but it was Clive who survived
even after David moved the jack . 25/24 to Clive Adams.
L/R: David Opie--Clive Adams.
SEMI-FINAL TWO
Rhett Butler V
Ross Dempsey
RhettButler got away to a flyer, could not have wished for a better start,
while Ross Dempsey just could not get going and soon found himself in big
trouble. On the 11th end he was 20/4 down and what hope could he see for
himself, none!! Rhett just kept plonking them on and Ross couldn't get his
weight.
OK
so there was some work to do, and Ross knew he could play better than he
was.
From that end on, things began to turn as Ross found his weight and slowley
got a more respectable score on the board.
L/R: Ross Dempsey Rhett Butler
9/20, 12/21, 14/24, 17/24. Well that was as far as he got, holding three
good shots and if he held, Hmmm-- a sniff of an impossible victory.
Rhett with his last bowl for that end moved the jack for the one shot he
needed to win 25/17.
A great example of never tossing it in.
