This match had the makings of a closely fought contest between two evenly matched pairs, with one Premier League player and a One Blue player in both teams.

The Peter Hunter and skipper Mike Browning got off to a great start to lead 4-0 after two ends. At the fourth end John Winship and skipper Peter Healy had hit the front 6-4 and by the ninth end they had extended their lead to 12-8.
At the completion of the twelfth end, John and Peter had a five shot margin. It was from then that the game tightened up when Peter and Mike scored a four to trail by just one shot on the thirteenth. With just two ends to play the scores levelled at 16-16 on the fifteenth.
Unfortunately due to the late hour, many of the onlookers had departed, missing the intense final two ends.
At the commencement of the sixteenth end, Peter Hunter responded to the pressure, with a magnificent first bowl coming to rest just two inches from the jack. Peter Healy responded with a delicate trail of the jack to lead 17-16.
On the final end Peter and Mike were holding shot to draw the game only to see John Winship play a “whopper” with his last bowl to trail the jack for four shots. With the shot bowl just inches directly in front of the jack and with back bowls in a catching position, Mike’s best option, although extremely difficult, was to play weight onto the shot bowl to force the jack back to his catchers. Mike’s first bowl narrowly missed the target and his second came to rest for second shot. Final score 18-16 to John and Peter.
The most significant thing that came out of this game was the performance of John Winship who, for a third year bowler, showed his steadiness under pressure, particularly when his skip was struggling.
John is a player who is willing to listen and learn from the more experienced bowler, is a good team player and a valuable asset to the Bedford Bowling Club. Well done John and Peter and commiserations to Peter and Mike.

It didn't matter how close Ken or Nigel got to the jack, which was often,
Kevin or David always got inside their bowls or converted the shot with very
accurate shot play or good old fashioned drawshots
The game ended up being one sided on the scoreboard with Ken or Nigel unable
to hold the shots they had even tho they bowled pretty well.
The longer the game went the harder it became and eventually Ken and Nigel's
game fell away from the outstanding form they had displayed to get to the
final.
David and Kevin always had control of the game with both winning their respective
positions.
The game was called off after Three and a half hours and 15
ends played on a slow track.
The plate was won by Peter Hunter and Bert Van Den Huevel who defeated Kevin Corbett and Ian Lehane

This game promised plenty as both sides had been playing extremely well to
getto the final.
After 6 ends of high standard bowls we saw Peter and Charlie come from 2/6
down to lead 7/6.
This was the end of the road, tho they were not to know it because by the
13th end Barry and Chilli led 17/8, they had managed to get two 5's in the
13 ends.
The game fizzled out with Barry and Chilli winning 19/14.
The allround game of Chilli and Barry was a little to much for Pete and Charlie
who had played very well in this game.
Man of the match was Chilli Illich
PLATE
Tony Garrett and Sherro won the plate defeating the ageless,
and great Harry Matson and Ian Lehane 20/11

They started out in fantastic form with both Neil and Bob drawing the shot
no matter how close John and Rosco were, end after end they piled bowls on
the jack.
Neil and Bob cruised out to a 14/2 lead and the feeling was we would go home
early.
JC and Rosco came into the game from here with a mixture of aggression and
good draw shots, the aggression was missing in the early ends.
gradually they pegged the score back to be 14/17 going into the last end.
It was a great game and it shows as always, it ain't over till the Fat lady
sings.
well done to all for the great game played.
Plate
This was won by David Scott and Brad Morrison who defeated Ken Preston and
Dave Crook in another fine game 19/16

This
year the team Click-for-Picture of
Cliff Graybrook and Vaughan Colley, won the the club pairs defeating Tony
Garrett and Terry Sheridan, in a disapointing game that was dominated by
the strong play of the old warrior Cliff Graybrook, who appears to have lost
none of his skills.. The up front battle was shared with Vaughan doing good
job.
The game started out in promising fashion for Tony Garrett and Shero but
Cliff soon came to the party and drew the shot at will, the opposition had
no answer and played very poorly. Sadly, there is nothing to say except congratulations
to the very worthy winners who had no oppostion.
In reaching the final Cliff and Vaugan had several close games winning their
last game on a measure for shot on the last end against Neil Minchin and
Bob Donovan, also winning two other games by one shot each time
Graham Campbell and RollsRoyce Hamilton, whom after a tardy start 6/14 down came home with a rush ( forth ) to beat Ron Rushforth and Ron Post 19/15.
