Cliff Graybrook (sk) Cyril Walsh and Frank Saliba fight the good to fight to hang in under pressure and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
The game was played in extremely hard conditions, rain for most of the day before, along with overnight and early morning rain today combined with a strong wind made life difficult for all players on a very heavy track.
It was obvious that conditions were causing a headaches for the players because on some ends, many bowls were far away from the jack
That said, there were still plenty of great ends by both sides. Cliff and his side got away to lead 5/2, then the fightback as you would expect from the defending champs who then led 11/10 on the 12th end. In fact they took charge of the game to lead 20/13 on the 15th end and looked certain winners.
From here on Cliff and his boys clawed their way into the game and Cliff playing a major role with many great bowls. It is important to say his team mates did also contribute to help sway the game.
The game ended in a draw after a fine saving shot from Mel Lemos who was 2 down on the last end to make it one down to be 21/21.
The extra end saw the middleman Paul Hunter drawing two blue bowls to give his side a likely win, Cliff with the maroon coloured bowl again answered the call bowling into a heavy breeze to see him out draw Paul to win the game and the title to win 22-21.
----------------
Best player in this game was undoubtedly Skipper Cliff Graybrook and the second best was the middleman for Mel Lemos, Paul Hunter.

Sherro was not able to watch the game as he was playing in the Plate.
The story of the game according to Cliff Graybrook the defeated skipper was
he and his players, Cyril Walsh and Frank Saliba were each beaten in their
positions.
The star of the game was Mel Lemos who played a blinder and rose to the occasion
when ever needed. Whenever Cliff and his boys had a good head with plenty
of counters, the cavalry (Mel) would arrive and change things around somewhat
with devastating shot play.
Peter, and son Paul played very well throughout the game to set up the win.
Cyril Walsh is having a great time at the club and Frank Saliba played in
his first final.

This game was a close shave for Mel and his boys. They were leading 11/2
on the 8th end and looking the goods. Adi, Shane Nunan and Romano Tomasich
came from a long way down to tie the game on the last end, the extra end
saw Mel get the 1 shot to win an exciting encounter

Mel Lemos and his team played much to consistently for the team of Adi Mayer
(skip), Peter Healy and John Petitt who tried hard but were never going to
win the game from the 10th end onward.
Peter Hunter had a bowl sitting on or very close to the jack for the first
ten ends to give his side a great start. John Petitt tried very hard to match
Peter but was unable to do so.
Adi Mayer was working hard to arrest the problem and played a magnificent
game under pressure to keep in touch with the scoreboard. Peter Healy jumped
into the fray and contributed with a very good game also, but with Peter
Hunter so close to the jack, and so often it was nearly mission impossibe.
As the game proceeded Peter Hunter faded slightly, while John Petitt lifted
his game. Peters son, Paul, who had contributed very nicely up to this period
of play decided he would take over from where Dad left off and played a top
shelf game from that time on, adding to the pressure for Adi Mayer.
Adi was still hanging in there trying every trick in the book and succeeding
with many of them, but the weight of consistency from Mel Lemos and his boys
was to much to overcome
Mel Lemos didn't have a lot to do, played a very steady game and played his
part when called upon.
The plate was won by David Scott (skip) Ron Rushforth
and David Twohig. They defeated Ned Bull (skip), Tom Graham and Don Mort,
27/19.
THE SEMI-FINALS
Dave Scott defeated Alan Foster 22/20
Ned Bull defeated Dave Crook 19/12.

to view Bobs team. It was anyone's game right to the last bowl.
It was Bob's team that started out extremley well and were nearly always
on the button, John Norriss had the call over Nigel Minchin doing it in great
style, and his team mates were doing similar. Any luck there was to be had
also ran with Bob's team.
The game appeared to be over 3/4 of the way through tho the Minchin team
was always within nagging distance score wise, to say it isn't finished yet
fellas.
We didn't count on their never say die attitude and they slowly fought their
way into the game with Nigel Minchin lifting the tempo to be 15/17 down with
3 ends to go.
Rosco Beaman stood tall and was right in this game and drew some beauties
with Neil Minchin backing up and playing top shelf bowls.
They went on to win this 18/17
The main reason Bob Norriss and his team lost was the front men couldn't
sustain their terrific early game right through till the end. Both Skippers
were brilliant.
Best Players Neil Minchin Bob

Another terrific game and also going down to the wire.

In
the triples final TheTeam 0f
Kevin Bourke (skip), David Scott and David Twohig won a great game of bowls
against Adi Mayer (skip), Graham Campbell and Peter Healy.
The game going down to the wire with scores tied 21/21 after 21 ends, forcing
an extra end to be played to decide the winner. Sadly someone has to lose
in a terrific game like this. Well done to all players.
This game was also a thriller being won by Mike Browning (skip), Bishop Wilk and Alan Foster (sub) over Ron Rushforth (skip) Harry Matsen and Peter Semyenson (sub). the final score 19/18. 2003/4
