ONE WHITE PREVIEW ROUND FIVE

Firstly, I would very much like to thank Jim McKenzie of the Thornlie Bowling club. Jim has agreed to assist this column with any news that comes to his attention and will be ringing certain clubs to get the “ins & outs”.
It is people like Jim who have the game at heart and like to see it properly promoted that makes our great game even better.

Secondly, I would like to apologise to Alan Corby of the Gosnells Bowling club for giving his brother Dennis bragging rights for his fantastic 30-6 win against Scarborough last weekend.
On that note, I understand that Dennis is very ill at the moment and on behalf of all bowlers I wish the former State Singles runner-up all the best.

This week provides some very interesting match ups and I will look forward to the Sunday Times on Sunday morning to see how it pans out.

Kardinya vs. Dalkeith/Nedlands

Even though this is played at Kardinya it is impossible to select against the top side Dalkeith. They are in irresistible form and what makes it better is that last week a rink lost by a massive 22 shots and they still won the aggregate.

Dalkeith for me.

Scarborough vs. Victoria Park

Even using my wildest imagination I cannot make a defensible case for Scarborough in this one. To compound the problems for the “Seagulls” I believe Steve Withers and his rink will make every endeavor to bounce back this week in order to preserve their lofty reputations.

South Perth v Gosnells

South Perth’s 8-0 dismissal of Safety Bay down at the Bay has confirmed what a lot of people suspected. The “Millers” are the real deal in relation to a top four finish. However, they will not have it all their own way against an in form Gosnells.
Robbie Cruickshank returns to skipper a rink and hardly surprisingly Alan Corby has held his rink after his 24 shot win last week. In other news out of Gosnells Trevor Close has been promoted to play third for the "Darkan Express", Trevor Gibbs.

Going to stick with South Perth but not by a lot.

Thornlie v Safety Bay

Last year The Bay took the points in both their encounters with The Ravens. However, I believe this is a much stronger Thornlie outfit in player strength but more importantly they have a much greater desire to work for each other and thus the spirit is excellent.

The inclusion of a player I rate very highly in Les Caruthers has already worked with Les playing one of the bowls of the day, ditching the jack and clinching Jim McKenzie's rinks first win for the year.

This is the game of the round and I am tipping an unchanged Thornlie to win at home.

Yokine v Warwick

Both sides will be absolutely desperate to win; another loss by either of these teams sees them casting their eyes to the wrong end of the table. Warwick remains pretty much unchanged with only a change of thirds between John Mather and Alan Hogarth.

The news is different down at “Doggie land” where a number of moves have been made. Rod Heaton returns to skipper with Michael Yates playing third and Alan Davis returns as a skipper in place of John Gallop.

I think Yokine will win this one and start to build some momentum. Below is the correct One White Table as the Sunday Times have incorrectly published the table for the past two weeks.
