ONE WHITE REVIEW

------------VICTORIA PARK’S PREMIERSHIP GRIP LOOSENED----------------

Two big things came out of this weekends round of fixtures. Firstly, no longer do Victoria Park have a guarantee of finishing in top place (ensuring immediate promotion) and the race to avoid relegation has widened to four clubs namely Warwick, Scarborough, Yokine and Gosnells where only 6.5 points separate them on the ladder. We are in for a cracker finish to the season.

Kardinya 96 (7) def Safety Bay 60 (1)

SWEET (REX) REVENGE

After Safety Bay mauled Kardinya 8-0 in the first round we all knew that Kardinya would be looking for a payback in the second round. Rex Sweet and his rink provided exactly that with a thumping 26-13 win over the usually reliable Beaumont rink.

Terry Ball & Ian Hastings joined the party with a 28-15 and 25-13 win respectively over their Safety Bay counterparts.

Dalkeith/Nedlands 92 (6) def Victoria Park 56 (2)

ROOSTER TO FEATHER DUSTER

State skipper and Victoria Park champion Graeme “Rooster” Wishart would have been feeling like the proverbial feather duster on Saturday night after being thrashed 8-37 by Dalkeith’s big hitter Peter Bacich.

Peter Gason (Dalkeith) Leads Dalkieth to victory in their gigantic win against State Skipper Rooster Wishart

In my 22 years of involvement in metropolitan bowls I cannot recall Graeme being beaten by such a margin. The size of the win is even more surprising given the form of the Wishart rink leading up to this game.
They have been outstanding so this result was out of left field.

Meanwhile, Mark Krajancic continued his amazing run of success with a 25-8 thrashing of the Jeff Mitchell rink. His record now stands at 10-1 plus 122 shots.

Thomas Mitchell and Steve Withers also continued their very good run of form with wins over Tony Skoric and Dinko Golem respectively, however not anywhere by the amount of shots to cover the Wishart and Jeff Mitchell defeats.

Importantly, Dalkeith have given themselves a realistic chance of grabbing top spot which before Saturday I felt that Victoria Park had sewn up.

Warwick 89 (7) def South Perth 66 (1)

HOT PIES AT WARWICK

The Warwick “Magpies” turned their recent poor form on its ear with a stunning victory over South Perth at Warwick on Saturday. The “Magpies” skippers in Gerdz, O’Sullivan and Friend really put their South Perth opponents to the sword with the Gerdz rink winning by a massive 30-10 margin.
The win will do Warwick the world of good but they are far from danger still and need to carry this win forward.

On the other hand South Perth is becoming an increasingly hard side to predict. Just when I think they may be the real deal they put in a less than flattering performance. In stockbroking terms I would be recommending a “watch” position.

Yokine 91 (6) def Gosnells 85 (2)

KAY BRINGS GOSNELLS INTO THE RELEGATION FIGHT

Yokine’s best performed rink skippered by Tony Kay have more or less single handedly helped Yokine’s efforts of avoiding relegation and at the same time brought Gosnells back into the relegation fight.

Tony has handed out a 37-13 thrashing to the Trevor Gibbs rink. Rod Heaton also won by 6 but Alan Davis and Michael Yates were big losers going down by 14 and 10 shots respectively.

Gosnells selectors may also be forced to look at the Trevor Gibbs record standing at 2-9 (-70 shots) for the season.

Scarborough 74 (6) def Thornlie 58 (2)

STOKES STARS IN SEAGULLS SUCCESS

Scarborough “Seagulls” skipper Steve Stokes had a day out down at the beach against the Thornlie “Ravens” on Saturday. His 25-10 win over the very capable Ric Gilbert was the major reason that Scarborough are a real chance to avoid relegation after looking gone just five weeks ago.

They tell me that you could have put the jack behind the bowling bags on the bank and Steve still would have got to it.

Barry Powell also continues his good record with Phil McGann playing a blinder as a second.

Nick Reagan and Paul Pohe recorded narrow wins against Geoff White and Ron Kuziela respectively.
