ONE WHITE REVIEW

-------------------------------REDS BACK INTO RED

As a result of yesterday’s fixtures Victoria Park “Reds” need only to win one of their remaining two matches to be certain of gaining automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

Dalkeith/Nedlands slipped at the third last hurdle and now look to have handed top spot the “Reds”. The other big result is that Thornlie who at the halfway mark of the season looked to be a genuine premiership contender will probably not make the four. The “Ravens” would be disappointed as they appear to have the player strength to be better than an “also ran”.

In a vital game at Yokine their Captain and best player Rod Heaton led The “Doggies” away from relegation with a comprehensive win.

ALAN CORBY DOES IT AGAIN

For not the first time this season, Alan Corby and his rink have ensured a Gosnells win. His win of 34-11 over the seasoned rink of Safety Bay’s Ray Beard was the catalyst for the Gosnells victory.

In a game where they were only really playing for pride as both teams will be in One White next season it was Gosnells

South Perth 89 (7) def Dalkeith/Nedlands 78 (1)

SOUTH PERTH ARE SERIOUS CONTENDERS

South Perth confirmed yesterday that they are serious promotional hopes with a convincing win over the strong Dalkeith outfit. Given that it was played at Dalkeith makes the win even more meritorious. The loss could not have come at a worse time for Dalkeith because it makes their chances of finishing on top of the ladder and gaining the automatic promotion almost impossible. Scott Walker, Keith Howieson and Ross Bresland enjoyed good wins over Dinko Golem, Peter Bacich & Tony Skoric respectively whilst Mark Krajancic collected a point for the home team. Mark’s incredible record now stands at 14-2 plus 152 shots.

MAGPIES LOSE THRILLER

The Warwick “Magpies” lost a vital game by two shots against the rampaging Kardinya side. All four rinks were close with biggest margin being six shots. However the contrast for the two clubs cannot be missed.
Kardinya have all but sewn up a spot in the top four whilst Warwick are almost certain to be relegated unless they both their remaining games and all other results fall in their favour.

REDS RUIN RAVENS REVIVAL

Thornlie’s plan of reviving their season by defeating premiership favourites Victoria Park were dashed yesterday. Whilst all the games were close, Thornlie only came away with one point and now face an enormous task to make the four.
Thomas Mitchell and Graeme Wishart both won by five to set up the “reds” victory. I am sure they would have been very disappointed back at the club to hear that South Perth had knocked Dalkeith over. They may have stayed on for another drink.

CAPTAIN STANDS TALL

In a time of crisis it is always the Captain who is expected to stand tall. Yokine’s Captain Rod Heaton did exactly that with a 26-16 win over his Scarborough opponent.

Yokine are still not completely safe but a loss would have doomed them because they play South Perth and Thornlie in their last two matches.
On the other hand Scarborough have games they will consider winnable in Kardinya at home and then a trip to Warwick.
Had Scarborough won yesterday I think Yokine were gone. Congratulations Rod, I am genuinely pleased for you as a person.

------------------------------ADDITIONAL COMMENT

(One Blue- North and South)

Further to my comment about the absurdity of the current One Blue (North & South). Whilst it is certain two North clubs from One White will be relegated to One Blue next season I noticed something that may rescue Bowls WA from alienating another club.

I see that Osborne Park head the table in second division Gold. If they are successful then that would mean the club would have two teams in the same division. With Byford and Safety Bay looking likely to win promotion to One Blue South I say happy traveling to one of those Osborne Park teams.

On that note if Midland/Morrison survive relegation they should also be brought back into the One Blue North where they belong and give another club the burden of having to travel to another region every second week.

To keep Midland/Morrison in the South for two consecutive years is unfair on that club and they should not be the annual victim of a very flawed initiative.
