Tim Murray Review One White

-------------------------TIM MURRAY REVIEW ROUND SIX----------------------

-

December 4, 2006

After 6 rounds the season is starting to sort the wheat from the chaff. They say a week in politics is a long time and the same can be applied to lawn bowls.

Last week I pronounced to the world that I thought Yokine were a definite premiership chance. This week I don’t think they will make the final four after a shock and shocking loss to the ever improving Kardinya.

To make the four you generally need to win 11 aggregates. To accomplish this, Yokine will have to win 9 of their remaining 12 games. They still have to play Thornlie (twice) South Perth (twice) Victoria Park (away) Dalkeith/Nedlands not to mention Safety Bay & Kardinya (away) after losing to both those sides at home.
With all the good will in the world I just cannot see it happening. Victoria Park stamped its mark on the competition with over a very good South Perth unit whilst Thornlie are purring along just beautifully.

Dalkeith/Nedlands (6) def Scarborough (2)

Mark Krajancic’s spectacular start to the year was brought to an abrupt end at the hands of the very good Scarborough rink skippered by Geoff White.
The “Seagulls” other winner in Ron Kuziela made a welcome return to form with a good win.
Talking of bouncing back to form, Tony Skoric and Dinko Golem paved the way for the Dalkeith win.
The surprise was that after 82 ends the score was tied but two “Seagulls” rinks dropped a 6 & 2 respectively to hand Dalkeith the points.

Victoria Park (6) def South Perth (2)

Larry Bandy’s magnificent run of only one loss from the last 19 games came crashing down at the hands of the very talented Thomas Mitchell. Without taking anything away from Tom and his team the defeat of Bandy was probably inevitable. Given that Milton (Larry’s father) passed away only last week it was a good effort from Larry to even play.

Jeff Mitchell continues to be the “Reds” stand out skipper with another convincing win over the previously unbeaten Scott Walker.
Ken Pride and Keith Howieson proved too good for the rinks of Graeme Wishart & Steve Withers respectively.

Both of these sides should contest the finals series.

Warwick (5) def Safety Bay (3)

Warwick owes a debt of gratitude to Alan Hogarth and his rink. Their 30-9 mauling of John Biglin was enough for Warwick to gain relegation saving points.
Warwick still has plenty of work to do in getting a couple of the other rinks into consistent winning form.

Safety Bay has also got some problems after suffering their third defeat in a row. I can’t believe that former Sorrento champion Ray Beard has not forced his way into this side. His selection must be imminent.

Kardinya (7) def Yokine (1)

The “Doggies” have single handed ruined my chances in winning the tipping on Sherro’s website. On their day they are capable of beating any side in the competition but they don’t have enough consistency to back up week in week out.

Full points to Kardinya whom a couple of weeks ago looked in serous trouble but with wins over Dalkeith and now Yokine they are right in the mix.

Thornlie (6) def Gosnells (2)

As expected “The Derby” was a beauty. The rinks of Jim McKenzie and Paul Pohe proving the difference in a game that delivered on every expectation. Gosnells rinks of Trevor Gibbs and Brett Holland made life difficult for the Reagan’s boys.

The bad news for Gosnells is that I have been informed internal troubles are hitting the club AGAIN. This has become a perennial event and makes one wonder “What is in the water down Gosnells way?”
