ONE WHITE REVIEW

---------Victoria Park & Scarborough the Big Winners from Round 9

The round 9 fixtures saw two teams really profit from the results. At one end of the table we see Victoria Park moving away from the pack whilst at the other end Scarborough have kept their hopes of avoiding relegation well and truly alive. The upset of the round (though I predicted it) was Safety Bay’s win over the strong Dalkeith side.

UP THERE KUZIELA

They may have been singing that song back at “Seagulls” headquarters on Saturday night. Ron Kuziela and his rink set up the Scarborough victory with a comprehensive 29-13 over the Jeff Sheppard led rink. They were ably assisted by Barry Powell who recorded a 22/16 over John Mather.

Scarborough turn in fortunes over the past few weeks can be attributed to the Powell rink which is now 3-0 with a plus 36 shots.

GREAT SCOTT IS BACK IN TOWN

The Safety Bay rink of Graham Scott ended an ordinary run with a 31-11 over the much vaunted rink of Dinko Golem and in doing so set up an upset. Safety Bay desperately needed to win and they can thank “Scotty” for delivering. Mark Krajancic continued his brilliant form with a 32/13 win over John Biglin bringing his record to 8-1 plus 80 shots.

I think it is fair to say that Dalkeith would not enjoy the lofty standing on the premiership table if not for the efforts of this rink. On the other hand John Biglin’s rink continues to struggle with a 3-6 record. This appears on the surface as not being that bad but they are -79 shots.

MILLERS IN THRILLERS

South Perth “Millers” won a terrific game against Kardinya out at the Zoo on Saturday. Scott Walker and his rink recorded a 7 shot win over Rex Sweet to pave the way for a hard earnt victory.

Kardinya’s leading skipper Tony Cocodis continued his good season with a 21/15 win over State pair’s runner-up Ken Pride. Larry Bandy’s rink is finding out what a great evener bowls is. They have now lost their last three consecutive games after only losing one in eighteen prior to that.

ROOSTER CROWS

Victoria Park’s Graeme “Rooster” Wishart would have enjoyed a drink on Saturday night. His rink had just belted the ears off Gosnells best performed rink led by Brett Holland 32/13.
Jeff Mitchell returned to the winners list whilst Thomas Mitchell has been very consistent and now Steve Withers is also enjoying the results of his talent.

Gosnells will bounce back but may have to look at the Trevor Gibbs rink which at present has an unenviable 2-7 record.

Thornlie 88 (7.5) def Yokine 63(0.5)

POHE POURS ON PRESSURE

The second best performed rink in the One White competition with a 7-2 plus 50 shots is skippered by Paul Pohe.
On Saturday they showed why with a 29-13 demolition of Yokine’s Neil Watson. Watson who was skippering for the first time this year in the absence of Yokine’s best skipper Tony Kay (6-1-1 plus 40 shots) was unlucky with the draw.

The defeat of Dalkeith down at Safety Bay opens the door for “The Ravens” to get the double chance by finishing in the top two. Whereto from here for “the Doggies” is anyone’s guess. With the exception of Tony Kay and his rink all others have been down for too long.
