April 9, 2005: Round Eighteen
Yokine(7.5) beat Bedford(0.5) ..........83/
65.........
Those hot Dogs rolled the Bedford Bulls for the second time this season with
a healthy scoreline. Bedford was still in the game at end 72 being only 7
shots behind 58/65, and from here The Doggies put the foot on the accelerator to
record a comfortable win
Bedford were disappointing, falling away badly when victory was within reach
scoring only 5 shots in the last 12 ends of the game.
Yokine are in the final four and deservedly so, and we wish them well in
their quest for the flag.

Hunter--------14
M.Krajancic{ skip}, G. Elkins, M.Illich ,J. Carpenter---------------22
Would have expected a better game from this rink. They got away
to a good start leading 4-3 on the 5th end and from there they ran
into trouble and by the 13th end were down 6-15 with plenty of work
to do.
They came back hard over the next five ends and had every chance to win the
game being 14- 16 down on the 18th however they didn't score again
Peter Hunter had another fine game leading and has done that quite a few
times this season.
Marko was the man for Yokine playing some telling bowls that make a difference
as to whether a side wins or a loses.
M. Krajancic won 12 ends
Best for Bedford was the third Peter Hunter
Best for Yokine was skipper Mark Krajancic

Barry Gartrell {skip}, Neil

A. Davis {skip}, I.Cooper ,J. Gallop, D. Haydock --------------------19
A great result
for Bedford in this game because they were on the canvas at end 7, losing
1-12 and there was only one to go and that was up. Dennis Haydock was leading
exceptionally well, taking all the pressure off his rink.
From
the 7th end on
things started to happen for Bedford winning the next three ends, at the
13th end they were 5-15 down and this where Frank Andrich lifted a cog or
two, while Neil Minchin was having a good game and at the 15th end 11-15
down with a sniff of a win in the air, 11-18 down on the 17th end, and the
Bedford
boys applied
plenty of pressure to hit the lead 19-18 on the 20th end. Yokine crumbled
under the Bedford pressure but managed to get one shot on the last end to
scramble a draw.
Barry Gartrell won 10 ends
Best for Bedford Neil

Best for Yokine John Gallop

T.Norac {skip},S.McCann ,J .Lorencs , D.
Pasalich...................22
A tough hard game for both sides, slugging it out end for end up till
the 9th end 8-8 apiece, from here it was Yokine who dominated. The 9th
end being the most
damaging
with Bedford holding 6 shots and skipper Tom Norac almost trailing
the jack back for 4 or 5 shots, just missing the jack, no cover was
provided by Lance Strahan and bingo!!! Tom got
the jack back to pick up 5 big big shots.
A marvelous turn around 6 down to 5 up and actually set his side up
for victory as they were never headed from this time on winning 22-18.
The front end of John Carlsen and Shane Shaw had the call over the Yokine front
end, but The Yokine back end won their positions
and this enabled a fine win for the Doggies
Lance Strahan won 11 ends
Best for Bedford was the second Shane
Shaw {pictured}

After 13 ends had been played, Bedford were down 7-10 winning only 4 of the
13 ends. The score indicates a tight hard fought game with Stu Bainbridge
scoring ones, and a two up to this point of the game. Then Bedford managed
to break away to lead 14-10 on the 16th end but never scored again but still
had a chance of victory leading 14-13 on the 19th end, then disaster, losing
14-20
John Bills had another big game today while Richo was not at his best today.
Stu Bainbridge played the big bowls when needed
Stu Bainbridge rink won 14 ends to 7
Best Player for Bedford was the leader John Bills
Best for Yokine skipper Stu Bainbridge
Melville (6) beat
Cambridge (2)...........83/ 73.....
Melville Magic get the points over Cambridge
Melville
finish of the season with a very good win with Colin Fleay flogging the rink
of Scott Edmonds to the tune 17 shots and the very reliable Tony Krajancic
rink taking Steve Withers out of the contest 21-12
Mr reliable Trytan Smallacombe and his rink, win yet another game in tight contest
against Jeff Hall and his rink 20-18, while the inconsistent rink of Ron Stockden had
a huge win against Mel Randell, 30/16
Brian Kiely leader for Cambridge's top rink {pictured}

Doubleview(7) beat Osborne Park (1 )...............85/81.....
What a game!! two great sides slug it out for dear life as they say in the
classics.
The Osborne Park rink of Daniel Trewella dropped an 8 on the third end of
their game against Robbie Ball and and you can imagine the feeling
in this rink with something like that happening, so many shots to make up.
Well, it was a good thing in as much that it happened early in the game because
they buckled down as a good rink would and fought back to lose by 2 shots 21-19.
John Goddard and his rink played an almost aggregate winning performance
to beat John Rainoldi 28-18
The clash of the heayweights between L. Thorn and Wings Evans saw L.Thorn
and his rink come up trumps with a handy 26-18 victory, Lindsay Thorn and
his rink were second best team in One Red separated
by aggregate to be the best, and it is a fine accomplishment to finish with
14 wins for the season.
Kyle McIlroy had a handy win against C. Guelfi winning 20-16, The Guelfi
rink did a good job and suffering a very narrow loss
Osborne Park survive and make the final four, thanks to Safety Bay.

Cockburn
(6) beat Gosnells (2)..................87/71...
Peter Sardelic played yesterday and it is great to see him back in action
The game went as expected even though Cockburn were missing a couple of players
due a wedding. Gosnells have done well to get two points out of this game with
The consistent rink of Bill Galloway winning against Dinko Golem 18-17 in what
was a pretty tight game
Daniel Brown and Russell Hughes won their rinks with ease and snuffed out any
hope for Gosnells.
So long to Gosnells who are now heading to One White and I don't know how long
it will take them to get back to One Red. They are
short of quite a few top flight players. Good luck to Gosnells

Safety Bay (6) Victoria Park (2 ).....................77/
72...
Safety Bay have caused the biggest boilover in pennants that I can remember
for sometime. This was a victory that no one thought was possible, it was a
case of how many points VP were going to get to make sure they would qualify
for the finals.
We have to give the Bay full credit taking into account the absolute thrashing
they received in the first round losing 68--112 and they would be over the
moon about the win and the role they have played in shaping the final four.
John Smith and his rink which incidentally is the best performed rink at the
Bay defeated the very reliable team of Justin Opie 22-16
The hard working John Trewhella got hold of Pieter Harris winning by two shots
20-18. Pieter Harris and his rink have been under the pump with a very poor
season for VP so this loss for them is certainly no surprise to me.
Rooster and Mark Simpson were the winners for VP but the wins were to narrow
to get the Park over the line.
Gary Carberry{pictured}played a big game
for the Bay
We say goodbye to Safety Bay as they will play in One White next season and
it may be sometime before we see the green and black back to play in One
Red
