Round Fourteen---

Produced a good result for Cambridge, Doubleview, Osborne Park, Cockburn and Yokine.

Results went as expected with Bedford being the only casualty for Sherro.
Cockburn's big win on one rink saved the day for them as VP put up a big game to take 2.5 points.
Osborne Park win and Melville glamour rink of Tony Krajancic were crushed by Daniel Trewella's rink.
Doubleview still a bit shaky, winning on two rinks when most would expect a four rink win.
Yokine go to town and crunch the Bay
Cambridge get off to a flyer and put the lights out for Bedford.

The tipster had a good round with his tips.

February 26, 2005: Round Fourteen

Cambridge(7) beatBedford (1) ..........79/ 69.........

Oh boy!! It was a dog day afternoon for the Bulls today, with much expectation, and hearts full of hope, Bedford found themselves on mission impossible after 28 ends had been played with the main scoreboard showing Cambridge leading 49/13, you would have to say, that is really game, set and match.
And that is what it was, "The Jones Boy" down 2/11---Cliff Graybrook down 1/21, and yes that is correct!!, the other two rinks holding up well.
There is only one place to go when things are that low and of course that is up. Cliff and his boys come home with a rush {forth} to lose by 8 shots 19/27 after such a horrendous start. And the "Jones Boy" and his rink clawed their way back into the contest losing 15/17. It would seem that if players do not concentrate on the roll up to where it all is and grab a feel, these things will happen.

Barry Gartrell lost a very tight game to Steve Withers being level going into the last end and losing 16/19, and Mr reliable, Lance Strahan {the hard man} and his rink toppling The fourth best rink in the comp, that of Trystan Smallacombe 19/16, and that is an accomplishment in itself considering it was on Trystans home turf, The Bulls have Trystan worked out because he didn't win his first round game against Bedford either.
All in all the Bulls obviously didn't grab the feel of the green early on and paid the penalty, Guess that happens from time to time for all teams..

Wow!! The Jones Boy and his rink down 2/11 after 7 ends. The game was so important for the Bulls, the good thing was there was a fight back from this point on, with all pulling their weight and doing their best to get back in the frame.{game} finally going down 15/17, which is what we would say is coming home on a wet sail. AJ won 11 of the 21 ends
Scott Edmonds had a big influence on this game with some very telling shots and general play that helped to keep the Bulls at bay. The leaders had a battle royal but the skipper "The Jones Boy" was the best for the Bulls and Cambridge skipper Scott Edmonds had the biggest say as to who would win the game today.

Best Player for Bedford was the SkipperThe Jones Boy

The Cambridge best player was skipper Scott Edmonds

Barry Gartrell {skip}, Neil Minchin , Bob Donovan, F. Andrich---16
S. Withers {skip}, M.McGann ,G. Kane, N.Bolten-------------------19
A great game for this rink who fought like tigers to almost win this game. It was nip and tuck all the way with little separating the sides for most of the game. The score was 13/13 on the 16th end of the game and it was from here that the game was won and lost with Cambridge winning 19/16. This was a very good effort for the Bedford Boys as they had to contend with a tricky green and some very good play from the Cambridge skipper Steve Withers who was the best player on the day out of the 8 players.
The good thing for Bedford here was the continued good form of this rink while Cambridge would be more than happy to take the point in such a tight game,

Best for Bedford was the newly crowned pairs champion at Bedford
Neil.Minchin

L. Strahan {skip},K. Collins, S. Shaw,J. Carlson............19

Well,
the hard man, Lance Strahan and his rink { which has now established itself as Bedford's No 1 rink} took on The best rink from Cambridge and the fourth best in the comp overall and downsized their rating with a narrow but important win for Bedford.
JohnBy the 9th end Lance and the boys had established some authourity in the game leading 12/5, 15th end leading 15/9 and looking good, only to let things slip to his lead down to 16/15 on the 19th end and looking like they might lose, steadied to take the game 19/16.

Best player for Bedford was The leader
John.Carlsen who is in the picture on the right of screen. Well done Carlo

LanceStrahan played another solid game
The best for Cambridge was their second
Nicky.Lewis

C.Graybrook {skip}, J. McGrath, R. Rushforth, J. Bills.---------------19
R. Stockden {skip}, G.Nelson, M. Saunders,H. Christehansen.------27

Oh boy!! Cliff was very unhappy and it showed, and one can't blame him for feeling a bit down on arriving back at the club. To be so many shots down so early in such an important game is demoralizing not only for his rink but that of the team as a whole.
Ron Stockton and his boys would have thought xmas was here again with such a lead, 19/0,---- 21/1 after 7 ends and he would know there was no way he would lose the game from here, The Bulls did not go away and kept plugging on to get some scoreboard respect and we might ask, what were the Cambridge boys doing as Bedford's score crept closer?
But none the less a win is a win and Ron would be happy as he see his stats looking decidedly better

There was no best player for Cambridge but all chipped in toward the victory

Cockburn(5.5) beat Victoria Park (2.5)...........88/ 77.....
DanVery good win here for Cockburn, with Daniel Brown and his rink crushing the new VP Skipper Mark Simpson and his rink 30/14, to ensure a Cockburn victory.

Daniel Brown {pictured} in top form as skipper for Cockburn

The other games were very close and to the credit of VP they won two and half points.
Peter Harris's rink showed last weeks form was all wrong with a tight win against the very much in form Dinko Golem 24/22.
Two of the best rinks in the One Red competition, Russell Hughes and Justin Opie clashed and what a game it was, finishing up 18/18 all. Would loved to have seen this game. Justin Opie is having a very good season and must be in the state selectors eye for the future one would think.
Rooster's rink has been very reliable over the last few games beating Steve Srhoy 21/18, his stats are looking very healthy indeed.
Tho Cockburn did win this game VP can take some heart with three rinks standing up to the pressure, just short of a couple of players unfortunately.
=============================================================

Doubleview(6) beat Gosnells (3)...............116/69.....
Douleview won on two rinks but were far too good on the day with huge rink wins of L.Thorne who had a whopping scoreline over the "The Big Bear" 39/12, and Kyle McIlroy taking B. Petchell out of the game winning 39/9
Bill Galloway
Bill Galloway must love playing Robbie Ball, drawn him twice and won both games they have played this season, this game 20/18, and the first game 17/13.

Bill Galloway { pictured} doing a great job for Gosnells after a tardy start to the season,

Stein Davies did well to snare the rink of John Rainoldi 28/20.

The most important thing for Gosnells was winning two valuable points against one of the powerhouses of the competition, and may eventually be the difference of staying in One Red.
==================================================

Yokine (7.5) beat Safety Bay(0.5)..................94/52...
Good win here for the Doggies as they bounce back into form with all rinks chipping in for a win. The exception being Marko's rink managing a draw against Terry Ball 16/16. The Doghouse will be barking this evening. And why not !!!!
Stu Bainbridge bounced back to winning form with a handy result over the well performed rink of John Trewhella 21/12. Alan Davis's rink in great touch with a 31/8 win over John Smith..
==================================================

Osborne Park (7.5) Melville (0.5 ).....................95/ 67...
What a result for OP and in particular the rink of Daniel Trewella P.Caffell, R. Francesconi and P. Fair who were on fire with a crushing win over the powerful rink of Tony Krajancic 36/11 and that is big big !!
The other game were all tight affairs with John Goddard having yet another drawn game 17/17 this time against Colin Fleay. Best on his rink were the leader P.Maynard and John Goddard.
"Wings" Evans had another tight tussle to get over the line 19/18 against J.Hall. Best for this rink were the second Doug.Eaton and the third Ian.Payne
Cliff Guelfi and his rink have come good for OP with another tight, come from behind win, getting three shots on the last end to win 23/21, How many times have they done that this season,
