April 2, 2005: Round Seventeen
Doubleview(8) beat Bedford(0) ..........85/
60.........
Doubleview needed every point they could muster in this game, well, you can't
get more than eight points , and thats what they got!!
This game showed the Bedford Bowling Club where they stand in the big league.
They have some ground to make up as this performance shows.
The Jones boy lost his game after team changes by 1 shot.
Lance Strahan and his rink buckled under Thorn Pressure.
Barry Gartrell and his rink just weren't in the game.
Bill Richardson skippering for the first time this year almost snared a win
All in all Bedford have the off season to re-assesss the playing list, this current
group
is simpley battling along.

A. Jones { skip}, Paul Hunter, C.Graybrook, Peter
Hunter--------17
K. McIroy{ skip}, P. Buller, A.Dellaporte ,G. Papadoupalos-------18
A close game. Kyle McIlroy and his rink
who were trailing 7/13 on the 13th end to
find themselves leading 18/13 on the 18th end, withstood a challenge
from the
Bedford
boys who won the last three ends,1,2,1 but not getting enough shots
to win the game. The Jones Boy started out in brilliant form but faded
as the game progressed
A little disappointing
to lose the game when a team has a commanding lead of 13/7 on the
13th end then to see it frittered away to be down 18/13 on the 18th end.
However the rink still did a good job to almost secure a win.
Kyle McIlroy rink won 10 ends to 11
Best for Bedford was the third Paul Hunter {pictured}
Best for Doubleview was skipper Kyle McIlroy

Barry Gartrell {skip}, Neil
Minchin , Bob Donovan, F. Andrich----10
R. Ball {skip}, D.Katunarich ,J. Bausor, C. Slavich------------------22
Well the story of the game is Robbie Ball played a blinder. The front
three players
for Bedford played well but when Robbie Ball is on song
most
teams
are likely to lose the game. We can only say well done to Robbie.
Robbie Ball's rink won 13 ends to 8
Robbie Ball {pictured} in great form against Bedford

L. Strahan {skip},K. Collins, S. Shaw,J. Carlson-----------------18
L.Thorn {skip},J.Slavich ,R .Dempsey , W. Langdon.................26
A good win to the cuurently second best rink in the competiton where it
was close for for the first 13 ends and Lance leading 12/11 and then the
first
big
break of the game coming on the next end with the Bedford rink getting
a 6 to lead 18/11 and looking likely winners and this where Ross Dempsey
started to have a big say in matters and Lindsay Thorne put the foot on
the acelerater and played some magic bowls to convert
some good Bedford heads and by the 17th end had levelled the score at
18/18 after that the Doubleview rink managed to score 1,1,1,5 to win
26/18 and we can see why this rink has such a fine record in pennants.
Lindsay Thorne's rink won 14 ends to 7.
Best for Bedford leader John Carlsen
Best for doubleview skipper Lindsay Thorne
===========================================================
B.Richardson {skip}, M. Lemos, R. Rushforth, J. Bills.------------15
J. Rainoldi{skip}, B. Urqhart,Ja. Rainoldi, J. Thorne.------------

A change of of skipper for the game with Cliff Graybrook playing two for
the Jones Boy.Under the circumstances it was a creditable performance
from this rink who have been woeful of late. They struggled to score early
being 4/10 down on the 11th end then all players lifted their work rate to
storm to the lead by the 17th end to lead 14/11 and victory within their
grasp only to see it slip away as the Doubleview rink steadied to pick up
a 3,2,3 and win 19/15.
John Rainoldi's rink won 12 ends to 9
Best Player for Bedford was the leader John Bills
Best for Doubleview
Melville (5) beat
Yokine (3)...........68/ 65.....
Melville Magic get the points over yokine for the second time this season
and it must be frustrating for Syd McCann to see these valuable points squandered
after last weeks effort against Cockburn, and sadly for him it was his rink
that lost the game for the Doggies, going down 8-27 to Colin Fleay .
Colin Fleay {pictured} plays his part in the huge win
It must be remembered that Melville were in the firing line for demotion
and badly needed to get some points and winning on one rink has done the
trick for them and relegation is no longer a worry for them.
Yokine getting 6 rink wins in their last two games have
netted a mere 6 premiership points. Oh boy!!! what could have been!!! That
result for all the hard work and effort would hurt any side.
The Davis led rink rebounded from last weeks costly loss to beat one of the
hardest rinks in the business, that of Tony Krajancic 19/16. while the ever
reliable rink of Stu Bainbridge won 18-14 over J. Hall and Marko Krajancic
took care of business against Alf Randell 20-11.
=============================================================
Osborne Park(8) beat Safety Bay(0 )...............92/72.....
Osborne Park won and collected their first 8 pointer for the season and what
a time to crack it for all the points. Every point counted for the OP as
they prepare for what looks like the game of the season against Doubleview.
All rinks fired with Cliff Guelfi's rink just falling over the line winning
27-26, a close call indeed.
John Smith has the leading rink at SB and really came to play and would have
been happy to be so competitive.
==================================================
Cockburn
(6) beat Cambridge(2)..................77/66...
Steve Srhoy got hold of Ron Stockton rink 29-9 and set up the game for Cockburn,
with Russel Hughe's rink winning yet again to stay as the leading rink in the
One Red division.
Cambridge were competitive with Trystan Smallacombe smashing Daniel Brown's
rink 26-13 and Steve Withers sneaking over the line against the reliable Dinko
Golem 20-18
Cambridge are safe from relegation and will have to rethink for next season
==================================================
Victoria
Park (7) Gosnells (1 ).....................91/
90...
Great game and how lucky for VP to grab the lions share of the points, for
some reason Gosnells have a habit of making things hard for VP over this season
and past seasons. The big surprise was the size
of the loss of the very well performed rink of Bill Galloway at such a critical
time, to
Rooster Wishart who has the third best record this season in One Red 33-20.
Stein Davies had a huge win over Pieter Harris
33-10 and nearly finished off the VP season, There must be some concern with
the Haris led rink to lose by such a margin in a game of the utmost importance.
Well the scene is set for a great last round and we say goodby to Gosnells
as they get demoted to One White, and I am sure VP will be happy to see that
happen.
