Round Thirteen---

Last week we did say that V.Beckly was the best player for Cockburn in Steve Srhoy's rink, when in fact he was not, this information was passed onto me by Bedford person, not sure why they would do this if it is not the case,
We try to give recognition to the best player or players for the game.
It is sad that someone should tell me something like this that is not true.
I guess we will not have a best player or players if it can't be a true evaluation and the whole idea is to give recognition to a players performance.

February 19, 2005: Round Thirteen

Bedford (7) beat Melville (1) ..........87/ 68.........

There is no doubt as to the importance of this win to the Bedford players and the club, lose today and all the goodwork in the earlier rounds was wasted.
So many close losses and boy do they hurt on the ladder placings. This is the win they had to have. We thought it was possible because generally the boys have never thrown in the towel, not in any game this season.
The Magic have been doing it cool, in fact their improvement has been remarkable after a horror run mid season found their way back into calculations.Today they were found out on the carpet and weren't up to the task at hand as the scores indicate.

=========================================================

A. Jones { skip}, G.Campbell, Paul Hunter, Peter Hunter---------------23
M.Randell{ skip}, K. Cousens ,R.Kennedy, P. Harber--------------------22
Well, " The Jones boy" and his teamates got fair dinkum, after 9 ends 11/9 in front and then cruising to lead 20/9 after 13 ends, hey fellahs what a lead? but why did you go to sleep? what a disappointing finish, Cmon boys!!!! you all know what is at grahamstake and you let the "Magic" win all the ends up till the 20th end when you awoke from your slumber to finally score and be only 21/22 down.
OK we went on to win the game 23/22, and a win is a win, but honestly, how do we let it get to this?

Graham Campbell {pictured} Played his first game in the Red side this season and played very well for Bedford, well done Graham.

Best Player for Bedford was the third Graham.Campbell

The Melville best player was clearly, skipper Mel Randell

=========================================================

Barry Gartrell {skip}, Neil Minchin , Bob Donovan, F. Andrich---25
T. O'Meehan {skip}, S.Boylan ,C. Fleay, C.Girvan-------------------10

This was the acid test for this rink, they have done nothing to skite about with four losses on the trot and looking very shaky since it was reshaped, along with a lot of of critiscisim to boot. OK if ever there was a more important win for this group, it was today, gee whizz it also meant a thing called credibility, even if Tony O'Meehan has won only won one game in six.. Great stuff fellahs, you rose to the ocassion and it was a most important win you have had, they say that one win does not make a summer, but in this case it may well be.
we look toward next week and the game you have to play and would love to see a similar result !!!!

Good news for Bedford ,Barry Gartrell was the Man for Bedford today
The leader C.Girvan was best for the Magic today.

==========================================================

L. Strahan {skip},K. Collins, S. Shaw,J. Carlson............23
J.Hall{skip}, A.Lee ,S.Hughes , J. Andrews....................17
Lance and the boys do a job on Jeff Hall and his rink, leading 14/7 on end 9.
And that was enough to ensure victory for the rink because the final result being 23/17. What is good here is The Hall led rink has made a remarkable turn around from being one of the worst in the comp to be one of the best. so that is important to take into account with this victory for Lance and the team.
Lance Strahan has been under the pump a little with his rink win loss ratio, and would have to be classed as under performers in the scheme of things. However today would help to take care of things a little.

Shane.Shaw played very well again today and they may have his right pozzie in his new position as a second.
LanceStrahan stood tall today and played a ripper.

The best for Melville was their leader
John Andrews

===========================================================

C.Graybrook {skip}, J. McGrath, R. Rushforth, J. Bills.-------------16
T. Krajancic {skip}, G. Oakley, K. Foley, J. Birch.-------------------19

Talking with Tony Krajancic after the game he said that generally speaking, it was not a high standard game and was reluctant to say there was a good player from his rink and none from Cliff Graybrooks rink either, we would have to respect what he says considering what his rink has achieved so far this season.
I asked if the carpet was a problem and he said it was { Rooster played a blinder on the same rink the week before} found it was hard to put two bowls down the same he said.
The game was close scorewise up until the 11th end Bedford were 9-10, the telling factor was Cliff and his rink dropped two 5's in the game and looking at the final score 19/16 tells us much, also they won 13 ends to 8
Taking all that into account and not playing on the carpet before, Tony has produced a very good result.
For Cliff and the boys they still did a good job against one of the best rinks going around the town, managing to hold them to a three shot win.

There were no best players for this game despite the closeness of the scores.

dinkoOsborne.Park(6) beat Cockburn (2)...........71/ 70.....
Great comeback for OP to win this game against the division leaders with C.Guelfi's rink leading the way with a nice 27/17 win over Steve Srhoy's rink. On the main scoreboard on the last end OP down 2 on the agg CG picked up a three to win the game for OP
Best player for this rink was the second J.Tyrer

D.Trewella had a narrow win against D.Brown. Both skippers had outstanding games today. Dan Trewella was sensational with Browny a fraction behind him, it augers well for the future of bowls in W.A and a spot in the state team can't be far away for Daneil Trewella.

Dinko Golem {pictured} was brilliant for Cockburn today

Russell.Hughes turned in a blinder to romp away from John Goddard's rink { lets hope the state selectors have a change of heart and put the best player in WA into the team that goes to Victoria in March for the interstate carnival} with Gordon Grey the best for OP.
Dinko.Golem played a brilliant game for Cockburn beating "Wings" Evans by two shots.
=============================================================

Doubleview(7) beat Cambridge (1)...............85/68.....
For the first time this season Cambridge scored 1 point for a game. A very good win to Doubleveiw with Robbie Ball's rink taking Trystan Smallacombe's rink out of the equation with a 22/9 victory. Other than that it was a close game all round with Lindsay Thorne winning yet again and Ron Stockden getting Cambridge a point.

==================================================

Victoria Park (6) beat Yokine (2)..................80/76...
Good win here for VP and it shows there is little difference between these two sides, Justin Opie had a very good win against Stu Bainbridge 32/15 to set up the win for VP while Tom Norac gave the revamped Peter Harris rink plenty to think about winning 27/15
==================================================

Safety Bay (6.5) Gosnells(1.5).....................83/ 76....
Congratulations are in order for the Bay boys winning their first game for the season by upsetting Gosnells at Safety Bay. It is great news for Bedford and Cambridge as they are trying to avoid relegation

John Trewhella {pictured} doing it well for the Bay.

John Trewhella {skip}, Gary Carbery, Matty Trewhella and M. Lane set the win up for the Bay by knocking over the Petchell led rink 22/15 and all other rinks keeping the scoreboard tight to ensure victory.
This win will keep all sides on their toes for the rest of the season as the win is sure to inspire a greater effort from Safety Bay.
