Round Five---
Produced a good result for Doubleview, Bedford, Osborne Park, Yokine and Victoria
Park.----
Victoria Park win the blockbuster at Kent street
A great win for the VP reds over the unbeaten Cockburn and what a fillip for the
competition. At this stage, no team is safe on any given day, {except one} that
is the way any competition should be. If VP can produce their best form on a consistant
basis who knows !!!!! Congrats VP.
The pennant structure needs to be made so it is a more even competition. The spin
off of course, is, there will be more interest and that is what this comp needs
more than anything else.
The tipster was almost on the money , and managing to select four winners for
the round. The competition is still looking good, Victoria Park doing it in style
over the previously unbeaten Cockburn. Not a surprise really, considering the
talent that they have in this team
Bedford show they are no easy beats, with a handy win against Cambridge.
No surprise with the terrific win by Ossy Park over The magic, OP could go places
yet.
Yokine won as expected in their win against Safety Bay
Doubleview take the points, as expected, against Gosnells.
Top rink is Russell Hughes{skip} S. Cerff. G. Vaughan and M.Brown
4/1+52
We see that six teams have won 3 games each and this is great for the competition.

Bedford (6) beat Cambridge (2) .......82/
67.........
The beginning of a new era at Bedford and they were in cruise control with a big
win over Cambridge today.
This was an important victory in the scheme of things for the Bedford unit as
they continue their push forward to be an important part of the scenery in One
Red.
The recruitment of Lance Strahan, Andrew Jones, and now Lenny Krajancic is already
paying dividends, they have breathed new life into an ageing club in terms of
the bowlers they now have.
I noticed that celebrations were not quite to the level of last week, a little
more subdued, and for good reason, there are many more bridges yet to cross in
their quest for supremacy in One Red. The boys are more than aware of what lay
ahead.
The Cambridge boys were not happy chappies, you could see the Look of disappointment
on the players faces as they left the club. They would have expected a better
showing than what was presented. Maybe they are being found out as to where they
are really at, in this competition, however it is not the end of the world, if
they keep their cool and re-evaluate a couple things.

C. Graybrook{skip}, B.Donovan, R. Rushforth, H. Matsen----17
S. Withers {skip} T. Murray G. Kane N. Bolton.......................26
A great win to Steve Withers and his rink, who were in control for most of the
day.
The Bedford players just couldn't get a handle on things, though John Bills made
his debut today and made a promising start to his One Red career.
The previous week Steve Withers rink had been well and truly been done over, showed
their class and came back today to show that last week was all wrong. Big performers
for Cambridge were Steve_Withers who was outstanding
for the entire game and Tim Murray who wasn't
far behind Steve.
Best for Bedford was John Bills
=========================================================
A. Jones { skip}, B. Norriss, Paul Hunter, A. Mayer---------------22
T Smallacombe {skip} N. Lewis T. Walsh W. Maher ....................
8
Another important win for Andrew and the rink against his conqueror in the Mt
Lawley consistencey singles, the brilliant Trystan Smallacome. All Bedford players
put in with a contribution throughout the game, leader Adi Mayer who has lifted
his tempo and second Paul Hunter, who is having a brilliant season and would have
to be one of the best seconds on current form in the competition, dominated the
up front battle and as the score indicates, no Cambridge players could hold the
fort in this contest.
Two heavy losses for Trytan may have him out and about looking for answers.
Best Player for Bedford was Bob Norris and Andew
Jones
best for Cambridge Nicky Lewis
=========================================================
Neil Minchin {skip}, K. Collins, Peter Hunter, V. Colley-----17
R.Stockton{skip}C.Lander M.Saunders M. Kinsella..............20
Ron Stockton's rink ran out to a comfortable lead 12/0 and looking likely to run
away with this game. The outstanding player was Chris Lander playing third for
Cambridge, nothing was beyond him to do as the skip asked.
The hallmark of Neil Mnchin's rink is to never say die. it was a long haul for
them to get back into the contest considering the scoreline , and taking into
account the display of C. Lander they clawed their way back slowly but surely,
going down by a mere three shots at the end of play
best player for Cambridge who was sensational ChrisLander
Best Player for Bedford PeterHunter playing his
best game so far this year.
==========================================================
L. Strahan {skip},L. Krajancic, K. Burke, F.Andrich.....26
S. Edmonds{skip} B. Tie G. Nelson B. Kiely....................13
This
is something special for Lance as the side had been completely revamped for this
game. In came L. Krajancic to play third, and what a game from Len. Kevin Burke
got a spot as second and they say he played a solid game, maybe that is his position.
The team skipped out to lead 9/1 and always had control of the game from that
point on
It was always going to be hard for the Cambridge boys with a scoreline like that
against them.
Lance {pictured} has been very positive through this period where he and the rink
hadn't won a game, saying that he was confident and a win was not far away. With
winners in every position a win was never in doubt. However one win doesn't make
a summer and next week will tell us ever so much more about this new rink.
Best for Bedford Lenny Krajancic.
Victoria Park (7) beatCockburn
(1)............83/ 61.....
Great win to VP in the game of the round, a huge win to Peter Harris, {skip},C.
Hayes, G. Gill and G. Quann that setup this victory over the unbeaten Cockburn
and also giving The leading rink in One Red pennants, of Daniel Brown a mighty
thumping 29/8.
This was something VP had been waiting for, as up to this stage P. Harris had
almost the worst return stats wise in the comp.
Good wins to Rooster Wishart and Justin Opie sealed a memorable win.
Russell Hughes rink was the only winner for Cockburn cleaning up on M.Crameri,
24/15
=============================================================
Yokine (8) Safety Bay (0)...............91/62.....
The synthetic held no fears for Yokine who continue to impress this season, taking
all the points against Safety Bay who continue to disappoint whether at home or
away. In a switch of skippers Zonco Norac taking over from Syd McCann had the
best result winning over T. Holmes 26/11
The kennel would be very happy with what has been a great start to the season.
==================================================
Osborne park (7) Mellville (1)...................80/
75...
What a difference a rink makes as Dante Mariani {skip},M. Golding, J. Tyrer, and
G. Grey had a ball with their magnificent victory over Colin Fleay 31/15
It was a strange decision by the selectors not to have selected Dante before round
five, he has paid them in full with this important win and will win a lot of games
for the club from here on, well done boys.
The players who were dropped to OP One
Blue, B. Boyd. T. Bigland, Andrew Thorpe got a belting losing 13/27,
so this shows the selectors are on the right track.
The rinks of John Goddard and Graham Evans scraped home with narrow wins to wrap
up the game for OssyPark
Tony Krajancic {skip} G. Oakley, S. Hughes and
John Birch almost won the game for Melville with a drubbing of the best performed
rink at OP of Daniel Trewella 21/7. the win leaves OP well placed at this stage
of the season.
==================================================
Doubleview (7) Gosnells (1).....................86/
54....
The win was expected, however there was a surprise win by Bill Galloway {skip}
P. Pohe L. Nichol J. Carbone over Robbie Ball {skip}, Dennis Katuna-rich, Danny
Slavich and Charlie Slavich winning 17/13. Up to yesterday The Galloway led rink
was the worst performed team in One Red with stats of 0/4
