Round Seven---
Produced a good result for Bedford, Yokine, Osborne Park, Victoria Park. and Cockburn----
Yokine are top Dogs in One Red:
Those hot Doggies do it again with a brilliant win over
the almost State Team, Doubleview 82/66 winning
on all rinks and now clear leaders at the top of the table and the best team in
One Red.
Well done Yokine and all is well at the Kennel tonight.
Serious questions must be asked about Doubleview considering its quota of state
players, including those on standby, with the strength they have compared to Yokine.
We might ask, why aren't there more players from Yokine in the state side.
We already have the state side selected and the majority are from DV. Why oh why
are they not winning?
We would hope the State selectors would be taking notice of what is happening
in the One Red division. While the State team has already been selected, the state
selectors have told the already selected players they can be replaced if their
form is not what it should be.
Surely one would think the DV team would win a contest against a team that does
not have one state player in its ranks.
The tipster had a reasonable day today managing to select four winners for the
round.
Victoria Park doing Cambridge over
Ossy Park winning against Gosnells.
Bedford win against Safety Bay..
Cockburn do over Melville
Top rink is Justin Opie{skip} M. Simpson. N. Young and T.Reid

Bedford (7) beat Safety Bay (1) ..........86/
80.........
This was a must win game for Bedford, and they came up trumps, but not without
some worrying moments, Lance Strahan getting over the line on to win on the last
bowl of the day, Neil {Houdini}Minchin coming
from the dead and buried to win 22/21, Andrew Jones losing on the last end, going
down by 4 shots to lose 24/25. and Cliff Graybrook safely home 22/17.
This game today has shown us just where the Bedford club really is at the moment,
in the scheme of things. What is important is what the club can achieve from here
on.
They have to face the almost state team, Doubleview, who are not performing as
such.
Then to follow, the real performers of the competition Those Hot
hot Doggies.
These coming games will be the yardstick of where the Bedford club really is in
this division.

A
very good victory, and the main reason why Bedford won today. After getting out
to a handy lead of 17/4, the Bay Boys fought back with the skipper N. Crocker
saving many shots and some good conversions to boot, losing 17/22.
However the Bedford lead was too big to overcome.
Shane Shaw {pictured} off to a promising start as three to
Cliff G.
All Bedford players contributed to the win and they could not come up with a best
player in this game and felt all played a part in the win.
The best player for Safety Bay was N.Crocker
=========================================================
A. Jones { skip}, B. Norriss, Paul Hunter, A. Mayer---------------24
J.Smith {skip}, G. Scott, T.Stockton, A. Lazenby-------------------25
This game was one that got away from the rink, and there was general disappointment
in the rink with this loss. All is not lost considering the size of the loss.
Speaking with Andrew after the game he said it was a game he and the boys should
have won, but these things do happen in bowls and the team will try all that much
harder in the next game.
Great to see the Merridan boys down at the game to support Andrew and Bedford.
The best for Safety Bay was the third Graham Scott

Neil Minchin {skip}, K. Collins, Bob Donovan, Peter Hunter--------22
G. Carberry {skip}, J. Trewhella, B. Fewings J. Flatt--------21
Well what can we say!!!!! How do you do it!!!!, Houdini-Minchin
who was aided and abetted by KevinCollins, Bob Donovan and Peter Hunter.
Here we go, OH here we go, OH here we go again, yes good people, it is on again,
the great escape, the big Minchin comeback. This has been the trend for this rink
all year.
What!! is unusual being down yet again by a fair sort of margin for this rink,
like 20/6.
Oh go away!!! you have to be kidding, no rink can get back from there. Well this
one did.
Is this rink ever going to turn up at 2pm to start playing, Nope, no way, they
have decided that they prefer to start at 3.30pm and that's that.
Gary
Carberry must be wondering how could he lose a game when he is leading 20/6, well
that is what happened here today at Grand Promenade as The Minchin lead rink came
from the dead and buried to win the game 22/21. Thank goodness for the fight back,
they won 9 ends in a row to give themselves the sniff of an impossible victory.
I guess the moral of the story is the game ain't over till the last bowl is played.
Congratulations to the boys in this rink and their wonderful fighting spirit and
never say die attitude.
Best player in this game was the brilliant leading by J.
Flatt
Hard to get a definitive answer but maybe Peter-Hunter
{pictured}played a major role in the fight back.

L. Strahan {skip},L. Krajancic, K. Burke, H.Matson.....18
T. Ball {skip},Holmes,Reynolds,Hallums ....................17
Another close go for Bedford, just sneaking over the line on the last bowl of
the day, to get two shots winning 18/17 courtesy of Skipper Lance Strahan. Lance
has gone from strength to strength since the changes to his side.
The big fellah has been cool, has a great belief in his ability, no matter what
the circumstance, and has led by example.
Yokine (8) beat Doubleview
(0)............82/ 66.....
This is the sweetest of all the wins for Yokine so far this season.
Clearly not favoured to win against Doubleview at DV home ground, and when we
look at who is in the DV team a win was never likely.
Alan Davis and his rink winning over State skip Robbie Ball 20/17
Stu Bainbridge getting hold of state third Kyle McIlroy 16/15.
Syd McCann jumping state second Lindsay Thorne 19/15.
Marko Krajancic really setting up the win doing over yet another state player
in John Rainoldi 27/19.
To me this is a surprise win, especially when it was played at DV. If the interstate
games are to be played in Feb/March, it might pay for the state selectors to play
the remaining games of their practice schedule against Yokine.
The $64 question is, will this win today mean anything at the end of the season?
Yes, these valuable points will ensure a spot in the four and the knowledge that
they can beat DV at their home ground.
=============================================================
Victoria Park (6) Cambridge (2)...............85/68.....
The
Victoria park 16 are "like old man river", they just keep rolling along,
even if it is only on two rinks.
A Huge win by the leading rink in One Red pennants of Justin Opie {Skip}, Mark
Simpson, Nev Young and Tom Reid. 31/10 over Ron Stocktons rink to set up this
important win for the park.
An important win by M. Crameri over Scott Edmonds 25/14 to help secure the agg.
Peter Harris's rink must be a concern for VP with another heavy loss today against
Steve Withers 15/24, they have to get it right soon or it will cost the club dearly.
Justin Smallacombe and his rink continue to impress with a handy win over Rooster
20/14.
Where to now for Cambridge?
Leading Skip in One Red pennants Justin Opie {pictured}
==================================================
Osborne park (6.5) Gosnells (1.5)...................81/
69...
A great performance by Daniel Trewella again, in his rinks handy win over Bill
{ a state selector} Galloway's rink. And Bill would have been impressed with what
he saw of Daniel, because Dan played a mighty game today.
John Goddard played the best rink from Gosnells, Stein Davies and his rink, coming
out of it with a draw, which is not a bad result for him or Stein considering
the form of both teams. 21/21
Graham
{Wings} Evans {pictured} is flying high, setting
up the aggregate with a huge win over Trevor Gibbs 24/9.
After playing in many close games this season, where the agg. was in the balance,
the rink would have been pleased to at last get a big win under their belt.
Michael Yates did best for Gosnells really stretching out Dante Mariani and his
rink 24/11
==================================================
Cockburn (7) Melville (1).....................91/
79....
Just when we thought it was looking glum for Cockburn, the rink of Dinko Golem
turned on a great display to do Jeff Hall over with a 33/16 win to secure the
aggregate.
Daniel Brown's rink is starting to become erratic with two heavy losses in the
last 21 days, going down to Tony O'Meehan 16/28, Tony . Krajancic did not play
in this game.
Russell Hughes and his rink win yet another game and Cockburn would be happy he
chose their club to be at this season.
What of Melville, where is the magic? they are in dire straights. Great start
to the season and have fallen off the pace alarmingly.
