What a great start to the bowling season. The big news of the round is Kalamunda defeating Cockburn. When Sherro heard the news he sent an urgent fax suggesting they had the wrong team winning, it should have read Cockburn winning. Back came the fax, Kalamunda 7/1.
This is fantastic for Kalamunda and for the competition. Great stuff Kalamunda.

Well, The Bulls sent the Powerhouse packing with a solid and expected win. Main reas0n for the win score wise was that of Lance Strahan and his b0ys who had Kyle McIlroy on the floor for most of the day.

Melville defeated Ossy Park, which wouldn't surprise anyone. A close contact assured me this year would see a different Osborne Park but if this is what is different then they will have a similar season to last season.

Cambridge beat Morley 6/2 and the surprise is that Morley won on two rinks

Wanneroo beat Leeming 7/1

The Bedford Bulls were surprisingly quite after the win against the Powerhouse, usually we expect the players to be a little boisterous after a magnificent win.
Probably the old adage of when you lose say nothing and when you win, say even less was the go tonight.
we don't have a Bull quote this week.

This game was the one Sherro concentrated on, Harris V the big Kat, Pieter Harris is one of Australia's best players and Dennis Katunarich who was in sensational form in the State Triples. It was terrific to sit there and watch these two wizards of the game go head to head.
What a performance by Pieter Harris. He carried his team for a long period of time and when his rink started to produce better bowls Pieter kept playing in the same manner. He rarely played a bad bowl while his team mates were not playing well particularly early on

Dennis Kat played extremely well for most of the match, faded slightly from around the 17th end

The game started out with one thinking the Powerhouse were the home side and the Bulls were the away side due to the difficulty the Bulls had landing near the jack. All Powerhouse players were dominant in their positions for at least the first ten ends. The leader Jim Bausor won the leaders dual for most of the day, Ross "Demoltion" Dempsey was the best player of the front six for all the game.
Dennis Kat played to a winning head but almost always had to contend with Pieter Harris converting the shot on the crossover. The Kat also was in sparkling touch at this period of time

The game was always close score wise, but like in the football, we see a very dominant team not get the score on the board for the effort put in, and this was the case for the Powerhouse, plenty of bowls in the head for no result because of Pieter Harris .
Around halfway we saw the Bedford front three starting to get a lot closer more consistently, scores from the Bulls were 3/3 - 4/8 down on the 7th , 9/8 on the 10th
13/8 0n the 15th on the scoreboard, but the leader Jim Bausor was still winning the leaders spot and "Demo" was still the best player in the front three.
Neil Minchin had lifted considerably and contributed to the cause. Shane Shaw was scratchy but after settling in, he played some bombs and as the game wore on he did many fine things. Aaron Delaporte also played a very good game for the Powerhouse.
The game started to get away from the Powerhouse as the front three for bedford had found their feet and the score went to 15/10 and got right away to see the Bulls finish comfortable winners

This was the most important winning rink for the Bulls. The first end saw Lance Strahan convert a 4/5 down to a 4 up and that set the pattern for the rest of the game. Greg Hill should have his name changed from hill to Mountain because that is how he played. He was THE MAN and playing his first game in the Premier league was sensational.

It was a sorry looking scorecard for the Powerhouse players because the score was 21/3 down at the 11th end. To their credit the Powerhouse came back to rescue the situation somewhat to lose by only 7 shots
This game saw Matt Mitchell playing his first game in the Premier League and full credit to the Powerhouse for promoting this young player.
Matt said he wasn't over awed but felt he could play better than he did today and that the thing that caught his eye was the conversion rate. It was much higher than he had ever seen previously.

This was a tight game as the scores indicate with nothing between the two sides for most of the game till the 17th end when the Bulls were 15/10 in front but managed to fall over the line 16/15
After the game State selector Lindsay Thorne said that his rink played better than the Bulls but were beaten by a lot of lucky wicks and praised the game of Barry Gartrell who was the best player for the Bulls.
Barry confirmed that what Prickles had said was spot on that they very were lucky to win.
Stu Bainbridge, who looks really great after losing a bit of weight had a good game as did John Slavich but the best player for the Powerhouse was Charlie Slavich who had an enormous game

What a way to start the first round of pennants, Robbie Ball picked up a 7 on the first end. WOW !! the Jones Boy and his rink would have been stung by that and then started a long and slow comeback winning the next 6 ends to be 10/7. From there it was hard yards for both sides, neither able to establish a match winning break until the 17th end when Robbie Ball hit the front with 19/14 lead and was able to hold on to it to win 20/17

A fabulous result for Kalamunda and the competition to come up trumps against the bench mark of the competition. Billy Brandsma and his rink could not have wished for a better result than to beat the best performed skip over the past two years in the Premier League, Russell Hughes .
Steady Ric Eddy and his rink jumped the normally hard to beat Daniel Brown and word is Joe "never miss a drive" Rollnik played a telling game.
Neale Griffin has continued on and confirmed his standing in the bowls world as player of class with a handy 2 shot win over Gary Carberry
The only point getter for the Roosters was the tough man in bowls Steve Srhoy, with a one shot win over another hard to beat player, Neil Payne

The score line suggests that Leeming are going to be far more competitive than first thought and tho any loss is a not a good loss, three rinks almost got over the line. Clive Adams and his rink snuck over the line against an underrated player, the hard to beat Danny Comrie by 1 shot
Jeff Richards and his boys just missed out against new skip Nev Stevens, who has a very strong rink at his disposal.
Wayne Heldt had a handy win against Geoff Ellis and that does take some doing.

Stein Davies bought home the bacon with a huge win against Bruce Edwards.
All in all it was the result the Wanneroo Express came for and Leeming would be pleased to see that they can go somewhere this season if they keep up with the effort of today.

Melville Magic recruiting campagne show benefit with immediate results. Anthony Provost along with Doc Oakley who played his first game of pennants after an 18 month break and the promising Kiran Cousins and lead John Tyrrel had a massive win against top line skipper Daniel Trewhella and his rink to shut the Osborne Park side out of the contest.
Jon Sharp is on a mission to improve on the stats of last season and bring a flag to Melville for the first time ever, got away to a flyer against John Goddard, it is early days for John Goddards rink but it seems to be a continuation of last season and we would think they can do better this season.

Cameron Girvan beat Osborne Parks best rink of last season, Bill Galloway. John Trewhella played his first game for his new club and would be delighted with the win.
Gary Caffell returned to the Saints this season after three years playing in the Tammin area has a good rink and will win its fair share of games this season were the only winners, defeating Rhett Butler's rink.

Cambridge had a comfortable win over new chums to the Premier League, Morley.
Scott Edmonds had a barnstorming win over John Armstrong and set the scene for Cambridge.
Trystan Smallacombe, who has been the leading skip at Cambridge for some time now, with his very reliable and hard to beat rink notched up another win against Wayne Neilson
The big surprise was that Morley could win a couple of rinks on the Cambridge carpet and win they did in convincing fashion.
Robbie Urquhart really served it up to Brian Katunarich who has now lost his past four games for Cambridge, winning 26/13
Pat Aungier got over Ron Stockton by 3 shots and that is not easy to do at the best of times let alone on their carpet.
All rink wins will play a vital part in whether or not Morley can survive in the Premier league and today they done very well to grab 2 points..
