March 10, 2007.
A great game at Bedford today along with a tremendous atmosphere in the last
20
ends.
Cockburn led by a magnificent Steve Srhoy turned on another brilliant
display a skipper it was exciting stuff and a showcase of what the game
can really be.
Melville Magic confound most tipsters and cause an upset in round 16 with
a good win against the PowerHouse.
Osborne Park Saints win as expected against a vastly improved Kalamunda
who snared a valuable 2 points from the game
Cambridge roll Leeming in a game where some tipsters gave Leeming a chance
to win.
Wanneroo give Morley one hell of a smashing with an unbeleivable aggregate
winning margin
In an action packed tension filled last end,
Umpire Ron Rushforth deciding whether the jack was in or out after a great
Alan Petchell drive on the last end. It was judged to be out so the final
end was replayed
Last end ---three bowls to go --score is 81/81 each----
Bedford hold
two shots

Steve Srhoy plays his first bowl on a full length end drags the jack with
a brilliant bowl , Cockburn hit the front and win the game. The other bowl
is that of the Cockburn third, Alan Petchell who only just missed what Steve
got and landed in a great spot

COCKBURN (6 ) def BEDFORD
BULLS (2) ......84/81
This was a crunch game for both clubs with plenty hanging on the result.
It was played with a tremendous atmosphere and the final result in doubt
with three bowls left to play in the game. The crowd was great and cheered
the good bowls, obviously there was a Bedford bias
There was never much in the game

This was a surprise when we look at the score
and the result of the game. Stu Bainbridge has been the best performed
rink while Russell Hughes's rink has been very steady.
The huge win was the reason for the Cockburn Roosters victory. They got
away to a flyer leading 11/1, 19/6. Russell's rink set a hot pace and
one player to stand out was the brilliant Danny Penman, of course Dan
didn't do it by himself, his team mates did their bit also. The Bedford boys
did try but unfortunately the back half just could not get going to today.
The score zoomed up to 31/6 for Russell. Stu and his team clawed back
some valuable points late in the game to give Bedford a chance to win the
aggregate, finally losing 15/34.
Best Player was Danny Penman playing three for Russell Hughes
D. Brown(sk) M. Zusman , J. Ravilich, S. Novak ---------------------.----18
L.Strahan (sk)D.
Wood, B. Donovan, P.Healy-----------------------------22
The game was too far away
to see but the good news was that Lance Strahan was
back playing in the skippers role. The bad news was
that Daniel Brown was on fire and played a magnificent
game doing as he pleased with some great conversion
shots. The score was 7/5 after 8 ends and from here
on it was Daniel's game because no matter what the
position at the head for Bedford was, he changed
it.
the score blew out to be 7/16 down for Lance's rink,
as we all know he and the boys were fighting to get
4th spot back and that never say die factor kicked
in and they put their heads down and away we go to
win 7 of the next 8 ends to win.
Best Player for Bedford was Daniel Wood and when
I asked Daniel Brown if Woody was a goody today,
" He sure was a good Wood today Sherro" was
the reply. However all Bedford players contributed
to the win said Lance Strahan.
G. Carberry,(Skip), M. Brown, N.Pascoe, S. West ------------------------11
P. Harris (skip), C. Graybrook,
G.Hill, M. Lemos,--.---------------------24
After the first 4 ends where there
wasn't much in the score Pieter Harris's rink got away to lead
9/4, 12/5, 14/5. This was most important to have this Bedford
team leading by such a margin considering that Russell Hughes
was leading 19/6 on the same end.
The Bedford boys didn't take their foot off the accelerator and
shot right away to lead 22/8 to keep the Bulls hope alive to win
the aggregate the Hughes led rink was 31/9 in front on the same
end. The final score was 24/11 and Pieter and his team had given
their best to give Bedford every chance of winning the aggregate
S. Srhoy (Skip), A. Petchell, I. Jakovich,
S. Vassallio-------------------.21
The Jones Boy (skip), B.Gartrell, Paul
Hunter, V.Colley----------------20
A truly great game influenced by four players and well
worth watching. The legendary Steve Srhoy up against the Jones
Boy and it was fireworks right from the first bowl between the
these two super players.
Paul Hunter Bedford (pictured) Played
an outstanding game as a second to give his rink every chance
of victory today.
Paul Hunter played a brilliant seconds game for Bedford and gave
the side every chance to win the game with his outstanding contribution
Alan Petchell has a high rating and after seeing him for the first
time I can see why his rated so highly by the Cockburn players.
The two leaders were fairly ordinary and didn't have any influence
on the game in the first half . In the second half Silvio Vassallo
got his game together and played much better than in the first
half. Over all they broke even in their duel.
The game had 4 dead ends
up till the 9th end. At this point of
time the Jones Boy had the better of the game than Steve Srhoy
who was doing a great job holding his rink together with some
spectacular saves. The 10th end saw the score at 8/7 so it was
testimony that there was a lot of hard work for Steve Srhroy considering
he had to counter the brilliant Paul Hunter and the Jones Boy.
Alan Petchell had worked his way into the game to become a thorn
to Bedford playing like a man who was determined to win the game with
his bowls always landing in the zone
The second half of the game saw the Jones Boy's rink lead
20/15 at the 18th end with victory for the rink in sight and also
a win for Bedford in sight but alas, it was not to be. Steve Srhoy
was outstanding and the Petchell factor along with some good leading
by Sylvio Vassalio was the reason why Cockburn weathered the Bedford
storm and won a great game 21/20. In the end it was Steve Srhoy
who stood firm and produced the big bowls needed to win the rink
and the game for the Roosters.

Last week Clive Adams's rink copped a
belting 9/34, Sherro said surely the rink can play better than that!! Well
yes it seems they can play better than they played last week with a blister
of a game against Robbie Urquhart who has it seems, has lost his way to
accumulating only 17 shots in 42 ends of bowls while the opposition have
scored 74 shots. Something appears to badly amiss with this rink.

Wanneroo have come back hard to keep the dream alive with a blistering win
against a Morley side who had everything to play for today. The Express
wont win many games with such a high margin as this and that not a bad effort
when we take into account that one rink drew. Where to now for Wanneroo
they have a couple of tough games ahead and will need to keep focused. They
have been there done that before

rise the occasion and have a most needed win at the right time of the season.
Pay back time for Jon Sharp and his rink by defeating Lindsay Thorns rink.
In the first round it was Prickles who walked on water with a brilliant game.
Roger Barns has returned to the rink after a knee operation
Anthony Provost got his leader back and returned to the winners list with
a handy win against Kyle McIlroy
Cameron Girven's rink are good value for the Magic and has recorded another
fine win against the real tough rink of Robbie Ball.
Dennis Katunarich was the only winner playing against the poorly performed
rink of Rhett Butler who have managed just 6 wins for the season.

Osborne Park have a comfortable win
but lose on two rinks to a determined Kalamunda. Kalamunda would
be happy to take two points away from this game.
Gary Caffell
lost his game and we notice that there was a swap with Justin
Coleman who has had a brilliant season leading, playing third
for the first time this season. Not sure why the change but we
often see a rink that is doing well change their players around
and follow up with a loss.
Billy Brandsma has won three in a row and to beat Gary Caffell
who has the second best record in pennants is quite a feat and
even more so because they won at Osborne Park.
John Goddard has continued on his merry way beating Mitch Biglan
who has to date has won one game for the season
Daniel Trewhella returns to the winners list with a good win against
the normally hard to beat rink of Neale Griffen.
Neil Payne and his rink continue on with their form to win another game and
it would be pleasing for the rink considering the start they had to the season.
Bill Galloway's rink continue to struggle to win games and would need to find
their winning ways soon.
