Round 5 Premier division Click here to return to Pennant Scene
November
25, 2006.
The game between the Wanneroo Express and The Melville Magic started with
a crash. Yes thats right, a lady was driving on the road alongside the
green and decided to watch the Wanneroo Wizard as he drove at the head and
took her eye off the road, mounted the median strip and cleaned up a small
tree in the strip, luckily she avoided the on coming car. Wayne Coyle and
Jon Trewhella jumped the fence quickly to assist the Lady. She was ok other
than being shaken up a little. It seemed to be an omen for Wanneroo as they
also crashed the day for the Magic in a terrific game between these two
great teams.
Wanneroo are now unbeaten in 12 games straight, seven from last year
and five this year.
Morley surprise everyone but themselves as they send Kalmunda crashing with
an 8/0 white wash. Celebrations will take three days such is the jubilation
of the Morley boys and congratualtions to them on their effort. They have
another battle of the bottom coming next week when they play Cockburn at
home.
The PowerHouse are building up slowly but surely, with a fine win down at
Cockburn and the loss will hamper Cockburn in there attempt to win
a place in the four.
Bedford Bulls do their thing and take home the bigger end of the points.
Pieter Harris's rink falls to Jeff Richards and his boys.
Osborne Park go well in the twilight as they give Cambridge a lesson on
how to play the game.
After the match I caught up with the Wanneroo Wizard,
Clive Adams and he said it was an excellent win over a very impressive Magic
side and that it shows we have great depth when the two leading rinks lost,
(Geoff Ellis and Clive Adams rinks) and the other two rinks (Stein Davies
and Nev Stevens) provided the win.

BEDFORD (6.5
) DEF LEEMING
(1.5 ) ......80/67
L.Strahan (skip),
D.Wood, G.Hill, P.Healy------------------------------13
J. Conner (skip),G. Parker, T. Glendinning,
G. Ford--------------------.13
This is a pretty low score for either side at 13 apiece with only three
two's scored for the whole game. I dont have any feed back other than
Peter Healy had a good game and the new recruit who has performed so well,
Greg Hill who had a quite day as did Daniel Wood.
Jimbo Connor almost breaking thru for his first win in the Premier league
along with Gordon Parker, the consisitent Tom Glendinning and Gary Ford.
Bedford won 11 ends to 9
The Jones Boy (skip), C.Graybrook, Paul
Hunter, V.Colley------------20
W. Heldt (skip) B. West,
P. Dobie G. Strahan------ ---- ----- -----------16
This was looking to be a good clash because Wayne Heldt's rink have
been traveling very well so far this season and his side were the leading
rink at Leeming with 3 wins and one loss up against the Jones boy with
a similar stat sheet
The Jones Boy and his team got away to lead 8/3 on the 8th end. 12/9,
17/12 on the 18th to finally run out winners
Vaughan Colley continues to impress with another good leaders game today.
P.Harris (skip),
S.Shaw, N.Minchin, Peter Hunter---------------------.-19
J. Richards (skip) G. Gould, R. Ryder,
J. Beswick -------------------.---.21
This was the first win for Jeff Richards and his rink and the win was
even more meritorious because they were behind the eight ball at the 10th
end at 6/14 down, 9/17 down at the 13th end then won the next six ends
to lead 21/17. They hung on for the last two ends to win 21/19.
This is as good a win as any rink can have when the game looked over for
them at the 13th end. Jeff and his boys would be all smiles with this
first victory
for the season
Best player for Leeming was the leader D. Oliver who had a very good game
Leeming won 11 ends to 9
S.Bainbridge
(skip), S.Rushforth, M.Lemos, K.Burke---------------.--28
D. Comrie (skip) A.Pryce, D.Nesbit, N.Bracken----
----------------------17
Stu Bainbridge and his side remain unbeaten after taking on the usually hard
to beat rink of Danny Comrie. The score indicates that it was hard and tough
to get a big score on any of the first 10 end where both sides had won 5 apeice
and the score was 11/9 in favour of Danny and his rink.
From here on the game took a dramatic turn in favour of Stu Bainbridge when
they picked up a 6,5,5 on the next three ends to suddenly be 25/11 in front
on the 16th end and then cruise to a 28/17 win.
This was Steve Rushforths first game in the Premier league and it would be one
he won't forget
in a hurry
Bedford won 11 ends to 10
WANNEROO (6 ) DEF MELVILLE
(2 ) ...................71/69
A great game that went right to wire with both side having a chance to win
the game in the last 3/4 ends. Rhett Butler had a chance to convert with his
last bowl of the game only to see it deflect off the shot bowl and go out of
the head. It was almost the match winning shot of the game. The standard of
the game was terrific and for the Magic to lose this game was certainly no
disgrace and once again the home ground advantage pays off
Wanneroo will now surely have the respect of the Bowling
world after this win today
Our poll showed that 70% favoured a Magic win.
Neville Stevens (skip), John Carter,
Ken Boswell, Reg Humphryson---20
R.Butler (skip) ,Bomber Gearing, Shane Knott, M.
Trewhella...............12
This was a very good game to watch and it was a
very hard fought affair with all players doing their best for their team.
Nev
Stevens and his rink got away to good start to lead 8/2 on the 5th end. Rhett
Butler started to have some influence on the game over the next three ends
with a a couple of very good conversions to keep his side with in striking
distance, his team mates did not let him and his good work down as they clawed
their way back into the game to be 8/8 all on the 10th end. Up to this stage
the standard of the game was very high with great bowls from all players particuarly
into the wind..
There was a battle royal going on between the seconds, Ken "KAYBEE" Boswell
and young Shane Knott who were both playing better than all other
players with their consistency.
From the 11th end onward the Roo Boys started to get slowley but surely on
top and by the 15th end led 16/9.
-------------------------
L/R: John Carter, Reg
Humphreyson, Mat Trewhella and "KAYBEE" Boswell. Players
ducking for cover after a Rhett Butler drive reaches the head.
-------------------------------
----Neville
Stevens (pictured) played a good skippers game gets
his bowl away well
Reg Humphreyson started winning the leaders dual and "KAYBEE" Boswell
continued playing so well and was the glue of the side
while Magic's Shane Knott dropped of the pace and there
in lie the tale of the match. A winning front half for
the Roo boys
Neville Stevens was particuarly good with his shot
play making three conversions and also was unlucky
when the jack would not go the way he wanted but generally
he was having a good game and was always dangerous
when he was down at the head. He killed 3/4 ends and
saved a five and cut it back to one. His shot play
was always in the zone where something was going to
happen and it usually did
Rhett Butler played some brilliant bowls when under the pump saving two fives,
he also was always dangerous and in the zone with most of his bowls but the weight
of Wanneroo's bowls in the head eventually told
Bomber Gearing played a good game and was a little better than John Carter
up till the 15th end and then John who wasnt playing badly I must add,
really started to find his range to help keep the Magic in check.
The game continued to be fiercly fought with the aggregate so close neither
side could take their foot of the peddle. However the Magic were being beaten
to the punch and were beaten 20/12
Wanneroo won 11 ends to 10
Best Players in this match
were Ken Boswell who was
outstanding playing as two, he played 16 great ends
. Neville Stevens answered the call when in trouble
and was unlucky with four shots and was second best
.
Rhett Butler was very good and his skill either drawing
or playing running shots
was on display. He was forced onto the back foot to
often and it eventually told on him.
3. Ken Boswell 2. Nev Stevens. 1. Rhett Butler.
C.Adams (skip), Russ Bates, Simon Alden, Mike Golding. ---------------16
Cam Girvan (skip), John Trewhella, Ray Kennedy, John Andrew.........18
A really good game with nothing in it all thru the game with the highest
margin between the sides was 3 shots on the 4th end.
It was hard to get a close look but the man to get the nod for best player
was leader John Andrew with a great leaders game.
It was the first time I have seen Cameron Girvan play and he is definetly
a very good skipper . Clive Adams was also doing his fair share
and Simon Alden ( Simon likes short pants) was going pretty well from what
I could see of the game

on what
will happen
Stein Davies (skip), Ted.Alden, Murray Hulbert,
Derrick Griffin-------.18
Jon Sharp (skip), Steve Hughes, Roger
Barns, John Birch----------------17
When I got to the game the score was 12/1 in favour of Jon Sharp, I
spoke to Johnny Birch and he said Sherro we are all going well.
Well it most noteable that Jon Sharp was playing brilliantly and it
looked as if he s after a skippers spot in the State side so good he
was in the first half of this game.
Well ! that was it for the rest of the game as Stein Davies and his
boys found their range and started a huge fight back.
Even tho the Magic men
had fallen in a hole scoreboard wise the game was of a very high standard
with plenty of close, close bowls in the heads. The players
who did the most damage for Wanneroo were Ted Alden and Stein Davies
with Ted just tipping Stein out as best player
Stein Davies won 12 ends to 9
Geoff Ellis (skip), Ron Bates, Barry Parmenter,
Sean Wright------------.17
A. Provost (skip), Doc Oakley, Kiran Cousins,
John Tyrrel......... ..-.......122
I had no idea on this game, to far away to see what was going on but the
score card tells us there wasn't a lot in the game where it was nip and tuck
for the first 16 ends with Geoff Ellis and his rink in front 17/12. From
there on while the Wanneroo Boys had the shots on the crossovers they were
not able to keep them courtesy of Anthony Provost who converted many times
to help his side win the point and keep their unbeaten record intact.
Best Player for Wanneroo was Ron Bates and Ant Provost for the Magic
OSBORNE
PARK (8) DEF CAMBRIDGE (0) .............
95/62
After last weeks promising display by Cambridge drawing with the Wanneroo
Express and the promise of better things to come it was a poor show by Cambridge
going on their effort today.
Osborne Park continue on from last weeks great win are well positioned at
this stage to make the finals.
A dream contest between two terrific leaders St. Paul Pendergast and Harold
Christensen
actually happened. I havent any feedback but sure wish I was there to see
action.
D. Trewhella (skip), Pat Caffell
J. Tyrer, S. Wattleworth.....................27
B.Katunarich (skip) M.McGann, W.Maher, D.Irvin.--------------------.10
A good win for Daniel Trewhella and his boys and gives them two wins
for the season. Brian Katunarich's rink continue to find Saturday pennants
hard work.
Bill Galloway (skip), Ian Payne.G.
Nicol, P. Pendergast ............ .........16
R. Stockton (skip) A.Heal,T.Walsh, H.Christensen---
- -- -------- -----13
The rink of Bill Galloway continues to impress tho the wins have been narrow
they are wins none the less. Ron Stockton has yet to win a game this season,
his fIrst win cannot be far away.
Gary Caffell(skip),Wings Evans. G King,
J Coleman.................... ........28
T.Smallacombe(skip) N.Lewis, B.Kiely, N.Bolton------------.-----------20
Gary Caffell continues to win games and the rink is well balanced. To beat Trystan
Smallacombes rink normally is no easy task.
Having said that Trystan and his boys have coughed up the worst start to a season
I can remember in terms of wins and is it possible they no longer the force of
last season??
J. Goddard (skip),Fred Di Giuseppe C. Guelfi,
P. Maynard .. ..... ........24
S.Edmonds
(skip) C.Lander,G.Kane, C.McKenna------------------------18
Well John Goddard has to be the happiest saint of them all considering the stats
from last season and what they have acheived this season. They are going like
a house on fire.
Scotty Edmonds's rink has only one win to show for the effort of this season,
the rink looks good on paper but not achieving the desired result on Saturdays.
DOUBLEVIEW (6) DEF COCKBURN(2)
............85/71
K McIlroy, P Buller, J
Bausor, G Papadopolous-----------26
D. Brown (Skip), M. Zusman,J. Ravilich, P. Novak--------16
A morale boosting and good win here for Kyle
McIlroy and his team who have struggled to have an impact so far this season,
to beat the normally reliable rink of Daniel Brown who seem to have fallen
on hard times of late and the stats are showing one win only for season 2006/7
Gary Papadopalous
(pictured) leader for Kyle McIlroy has been a Solid contributor over the
years for Doubleview
L Thorn, J Slavich, D Slavich,
M. Mitchell -------------------------------28
G. Carberry (Skip), C. Jones, P. Sardelic , S.West------------------------14
Prickles Thorn has knotched up another win and what a handy win it was to
take Gary Carberry's boys to the cleaners on the scoreboard.
D Katunarich, A Delaporte, R Dempsey, J Bausor -----------------------17
R. Hughes (Skip), S. Cerff, J. Galipo, D. Penman------------------------.18
A close game with Russell Hughes just getting over the line by one shot against
one of the best rinks in the Premier League.
R Ball, B Urquhart, C Slavich, W Langdon--------------------------------14
S. Srhoy (Skip), A. Petchell, I.
Jakovich, S. Vassallio--------------------23
Steve Srhoy and his rink on the rebound from last
weeks loss give Robbie Ball the old heave ho with a telling win for Cockburn.
MORLEY (8) DEF KALAMUNDA
(0) ..........................89/54
Over the hill we go, and climbing another mountain is what the Morley
boys did today. Take a bow, and in particular to John Armstrong's who stopped
the hardest rink at Kalamunda, Neale Griffin and his rink with a one shot
win
R. Urquhart (skip), J.
Heiden, B. Driscoll, A. Elmer -------------------.19
B.Brandsma(skip) B.Tie, R.Payne, L.Pewsey-----------------.-----------.9
Robbie Urquhart wins another game and he puts Kalamunda's second best rink
out of action. Billy Brandsma as been going well and this would be a surprise
loss but you cant take anything away from the winners.
P. Aungier (skip) J Sheridan , A. Barron, M. Callcott -------------------23
M. Biglan (skip) G.Payne, T.Nattalotto,Nicky
Bruce
Nicky Bruce - ---16
Peter Aungier had his third win for the season against new Skip Mitch Biglan,
I think we could have expected a win for Peter and his boys.
W. Neilson (skip) ,? Holland, G. Grieve,
Cobby -------------------------20
N.Payne (skip) R.Eddy, P.Coyle, F.Anderson----------------------.-----.13
This rink has rebounded well after the smashing they got last week at Osborne
Park. Neil Payne has yet to record a win this season
J. Armstrong (skip),
M. Robinson, M. Manning, B. Urquhart ----------.17
N.Griffin (skip),
M.Clancy-E.Martin-M.Douthie------------------------..16
Terrific effort from John Armstrong M.
Robinson, M. Manning, B. Urquhart who have been knocking
on the door for a win and what a win it was. After trailing 3/14 down and no
where to go when you consider that you are playing one of the best rinks in the
competitin to get up and win 17/16 is full of merit.
