Round 6 Premier division Click here to return to Pennant Scene

December 2, 2006.
A great round for the pennant competition with four upsets in round six.
Perhaps the biggest surprise was the win of Morley against the giants of the competition over the past 30 years. This would have to be the biggest win in the history of the Morley Bowling club

If you told someone that you had selected Leeming to beat Osborne Park you would have been told you were dreaming. Ossie Park lack the spark and let a valuable point booster slip away.

Kalamunda only need one rink to knock over the Bedford Bulls. It was an important win for the boys from way up on the hill. You could see the determination of Kalamunda and after the game they were ecstatic about the win.
Quite clearly the Bulls have some thinking to do.

Cambridge change carpets and give Melville the magic carpet ride they didn't expect with a very good win. The Magic disappears on the Cambridge carpet for Melville.

The PowerHouse are reaping the reward of the non performing rinks of the earlier rounds performing as they give the Wannerro Express their first loss in 13 games.
The Express don't like to lose at any time but we think they can wear this loss

KALAMUNDA (5) DEF BEDFORD (3) ......74/68

N.Payne (skip) R.Eddy, T.Nattalotto, F.Anderson
----------------------..30
B. Gartrell  (skip), D.Wood,  G.Hill,  P.Healy------------------------------8

This game was the first win of the season by Neil Payne and his rink and we see they won 17 0f the 21 ends for the game. From what I was able to see the Kalamunda boys were bowling very well with the leader F. Anderson having his two yellow bowls sitting on the jack end after end to give the side a great start.
Rick Eddy had a huge game according to the Bedford boys, but obviously so did the rest of the players for Kalamunda.
They can take a great delight in destroying the Bulls with this outstanding display of bowls and winning the game for their club
A lesson for the Bedford selectors. Barry Gartrell arrived back from Fiji at 4.am on Saturday morning and hadn't had a bowl in his hand for two weeks. However regardless of that, the side performed poorly and J/C himself would not have won that game if he was the skipper.

B.Brandsma(skip) J. Rollnik, R.Hutchinson, L.Pewsey----------------12
The Jones Boy (skip), C.Graybrook, Paul Hunter, V.Colley------------18

Great game here with the score at 6/4 for the Jones Boy on the 6th end then took control to lead 16/6 on the 15th end.
From this end on things tightened up we have to take into account that the aggregate was in the balance with both skippers were playing well, The Jones Boy and Billy Brandsma were going bowl for bowl and there was certainly some brilliant bowls delivered for their respective sides
Vaughan Colley continues to impress with his leading while Cliff Graybrook has a very good game as third for the Jones Boy.
Billy Brandsma is a great competitor and he sure looked the part as skipper.

N.Griffin (skip), M.Clancy, E.Martin,G. Carbines -----------------------.17
P.Harris (skip), S.Shaw, N.Minchin, Peter Hunter---------------------.-22

This game was to far away to see anything much but our scorecard shows that it was a tough game up to the 11th end with Pieter Harris leading 12/10. From here on the side accelerated away to lead 21/10 on the 15th end then have withstand a great fightback from Neale Griffin who won 5 of the last 6 ends.

The Skipper Pieter Harris had a huge game for the Bulls and was near his best today.

M. Biglan (skip) G.Payne, B. Tie, N. Bruce - -----------------------------15
S.Bainbridge (skip), S.Rushforth,   M.Lemos, K.Burke
---------------.--20

This was the game Sherro concentrated on and it was a good game even tho the score was lopsided after seven ends had been completed at 12/1.
The Bedford leader Kevin Burke was just in front of N. Bruce in the leading dual while Brett Tie was playing some exceptionally good bowls for his side but the main player was Stu Bainbridge who was in sensational form. Saving a five with a brilliant draw shot on the first end.
From the eighth end onward Kalmunda started to fire with Brett Tie being the man to help bridge the gap with good close and consistent bowls. During this period of the game While Both thirds were not having much of an impact it was Steve Rushforth who was winning the battle of the thirds against Glenn Payne.

-----L/R: Stu Bainbridge, Steve Rushforth, Brett Tie. Glenn Payne. Kevin Burke

Mitch Biglan was doing well for a second game skipper but was out bowled by a brilliant Stu Bainbridge who could do no wrong .
Bedford Skipped away with Kevin Burke well on top in the leading dual and Mel Lemos coming into the game after having a quite first half.
The 16th end saw Bedford leading 19/10 and Brett Tie lose his touch with Steve Rushforth lifting his rating with a fantastic finish to the game where he played every bowl with magnificent touch. Stu Bainbridge also lost his earlier touch while suddenly Mitch Biglan came to the party to keep Bedford from storming away with a huge win. It was a most important time for him to play as well as he did with the aggregate in the balance and for a second game skipper with nine of his last 14 bowls putting a spanner in the works for Bedford.
The score 20/15 didnt really show that Stu Bainbridge's rink were a far better side on the day but it did show that Kalmunda kept plugging away with a never say die attitude along with some great work from Mitch Biglan

Steve Rushforth was good in the first half and brilliant in the second half and just got the nod ahead of Stu Bainbridge who was clearly the best player at the halfway mark of the game.
Kevin Burke played very well leading and won his position comfortably.

I couldn't fit Mitch Biglan into the votes but he was most impressive toward the end of the game with several telling bowls to hold out the Bulls

3. Steve Rushforth. 2. Stu Bainbridge. 1 Kevin Burke.

DOUBLEVIEW(6 ) DEF (2 ) WANNEROO ...................76/67

Good win here for the Powerhouse, our poll showed them to be clear favourites. With Kyle McIlroy's rink coming good after a tardy start to the season and Prickles Thorn and his boys continuing on with their recent good form has taken the pressure of the rinks of the Kat and Robbie Ball who had down days in this game.

The Wanneroo Express has seen their best two rinks go down again and it was left to Nev Stevens and Stein Davies to carry the side again .
Probably there are no best rinks at Wanneroo they appear to about even to me

LEEMING (6) DEF OSBORNE PARK(2) ............. 80/60

What a great win here for Leeming and in particular the rink of Danny Comrie who had a giant win against Bill Galloway. I cant remember when Bill Galloway suffered such a huge loss. However the Ossy Park boys were full of praise for the game that Danny played, it was a ten out of ten.
Another big winner was the rink of Jeff Richards who have been battling this season and now have two wins on the trot but the surprise is how comfortable the wn was against John Goddards rink.
Gary Caffelll won again and it is no surprise when you look at the players in the rink, while Daniel Trewhella has now won two on the trot and just might be getting the rink to play to its potential.

MORLEY(6) DEF COCKBURN (2).........87/76

A surpise to see this result and what a turn around for Wayne Nielson who only just three weeks ago recieved a flogging against Leeming. The win over the new rink of Mike Zusman who had no answer to Wayne's rink and one has to wonder what will happen at the selection table next week for Cockburn.
Probably Morley had their best two rinks play Cockburns two worst rinks and visa versa for Cockburn.
Steve Srhoy and his rink have had a terrific season and won here with an easy win over Robbie Urquhart while Russell Hughes's rink won by a small margin against new skip Bruce Walter who replaced John Armstrong who was unavailable for today game.

CAMBRIDGE (6) DEF MELVILLE (2) ..........................89/71

Is this the real Cambridge where they were almost unbeatable on their carpet last season. The change of greens or carpets seems it might be the answer to their past problems.
Trystan Smallacombe has powered his rink back into what their true ability really is, by giving the gun rink of John Sharp a good going over while Ron Stockton has finally cracked it with a very good win over the highly rated Cameron Girvan
Anthony Provost and his rink are hard to beat and even on the carpet it didnt matter to them in beating a vastly improved performance by the Brian Katunarich led rink.

Ron Stockton Cambridge (pictured) is over the hump and wins his first game of the season with a sound win against Melville
