The speakers were Sam Sardelic who gave an insight to history of the Sardelic
family and Peter in particular.
Ron Taylor, another legend of the game told some humorous stories and was
very well received
Mike Zusman gave his side of the story as to how Peter got him to play at
Cockburn among other things.
Peter responded in magnificent fashion to all the happenings of the evening. He
received a standing ovation at the conclusion of the evening.
All in all it was a wonderful evening and thank you to Peter for a wonderful
life and career in lawn bowls.
From Terry Sheridan's perspective I have known "Mr
Magic" from around 1983.
To me he is the best skipper among the many extremely good skippers that
have played the game. They called him lucky, {he
had lucky horse shoes as the emblem on his bowls}
because of his famous wick shots, of course it was no coincidence that he
always had the right line and weight to get these shots over the many years
of competition .
He was always the humourist in the most difficult times and made light of
a bad position at the head.
Never bigheaded, always the team man, gracious in defeat, and friendly to
all, Peter "Mr Magic" Sardelic, well!!!, there won't be one like
you for quite a while.
Its been great to meet you and watch you over the years mate.Well done
May 21, 2005
The Day was threatened with thunderstorms,
but that didn't deter the whole field turning up to play. Some of the players
came
from all
parts of the state for this day, Henry Slawinski came from Wonthella just
to be there, is one example. There were players from many clubs and divisions
that were in attendance and I am sure there would have been far more in attendance
if not for the clash of dates with the Australian Indoor sets play that took
place on the same day.
Peter put down the first bowl for the event to plenty of applause and friendly
ribbing due to him finishing short of the jack, to get proceedings under
way.
It was fitting that The winners were the Cockburn
team of:
Steve Srhoy {skip}
