Community Bowls drawing to an end – but isn’t that the Game?
By
the time this article is published, the winners of the second session of community
bowls will have concluded.
The preliminary five weeks have seen some excellent
bowls and a few surprising results on both Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The
last night may well have
provided another twist in ascertaining the winners.
I wish to extend my sincere
thanks to all those helpers who have given up their time to ensure that a good
time has been enjoyed by all. Without their
help and support my job as coordinator would be almost untenable.
Hopefully
there are 3 or 4 members interested in being part of a sub-committee to share
the workload prior to recommencement of Community Bowls in the second
week of November.
An average of 200 people have participated each week and thankfully
the weather has been kinder. These people and others interested are invited
to
come to the Club on a Wednesday evening, BYO food, for social bowls – no
organised games as such but “challenge” matches between teams
of four – as per community bowls team or a team created on the night.
The whole idea is for social interaction and fostering the game with a “spin
off” of new bowling members in due course.

What a finish to Session 1 – Community Bowls !!!!
Firstly , a big thanks
to all who participated – an average of 204
bowlers a week.
Both Tuesday and Wednesday final nights provided exciting
games and close scores between teams in contention to win .
Tuesday nights
saw the “Warriors” victorious with six wins and
54 shots up. Runners Up were the “Larks” with 5 wins and 59 shots
up and a creditable third was “Benny and the Ban Chongs” with
five wins and 54 shots up.
Thanks to the generous sponsorship of StateWest
Credit Society, the winning team of four each received a $20 Coles-Myer voucher
and each of the runners
up a big tin of biscuits .
Wednesday nights saw “Drawn Out” triumph for the second time
with six wins and 32 shots up. “Black Ducks”-pipped on the post
by the winners were Runners Up with five wins and 51 shots up. “Old
Ducks” came third with five wins and 49 shots up.
Similar awards as
Tuesday were presented.
Thanks again goes to StateWest Credit Society as major
sponsors . Also many thanks goes to Dubrovnik Butchers, Grand Prom Growers
Mart, Bakers Delight,
Dianella and Chicken Treat for their generous support to our Community Bowls
Program.
Thanks to all who helped in any way to make the last six weeks successful.
It would not have happened without you all.
Next session starts on February
7 and 8. I will make contact around mid-January.
Hopefully the weather will be much kinder.
A Happy Festive Season to everyone

Community Bowls Coordinator.

The winners of each night will be nominated to Bowls WA for a competition they are about to organise – probably be played March or April.

It is very pleasing to me as coordinator to see 200 people enjoying this great
sport and the associated social interaction each week. The 50 cent raffle
is
being well supported with lots of excitement evident during the draw. The
band of ticket sellers do a superb job .

Thanks to everyone who helps in any way.

Please note that the second session
will, at this stage, commence on Tuesday/Wednesday 7/8 February 2006 and
rest assured there will be very few if any available
vacant spots.
Good bowling
