Preview round Five One Blue North

November 22, 2006
Preview 1 Blue North Round 5.

North Beach (16 pts) v Morley (17½ Pts)
North Beach have shown consistency and their first up skipper Devenish made a great debut last week. Morley, apart from A Haley’s rink have been lions at home and lambs away.
North Beach defeated Osborne Park at home and went within two shots of Bedford away last week. They will continue to make a mockery of my pre-season prediction that they would finish near the bottom of the table.

Selection: North Beach

Doubleview (16 pts) v Wanneroo (13 pts)

Wanneroo have been even worse away than Morley, not having won or drawn on a single rink in their away games to Morley and Sorrento.
Doubleview have been disappointing so far this season. They have Gary Nelson from Cambridge, Blake Heldt from Leeming and Ken Screech back from 1 Red with the recruiting of Matthew Mitchell, yet their wins at home have been unconvincing with margins of seven shots against Innaloo and five shots opposed to Bedford.

This should be an opportunity for Wanneroo to at least score their first point away.

Selection: Doubleview

Bassendean (27) v Bedford (15)
Single shot victories over Sorrento and Osborne Park have been beneficial to Bassendean, giving them top spot. Bedford has fought out every game and can be expected to give Bassendean a hard time.

Marcel Huerer (pictured) long standing Bassendean skipper who will make it hard for Bedford on Saturday

Justin Opie and Marcel Heruer (undefeated) have been outstanding for Bassendean and will again be expected to provide leadership for their teams. This should be a very close fought tussle, despite the placings on the ladder.

Selection: Bassendean

Innaloo (3) v Osborne Park (17½)
An unfortunate loss by one shot, to leaders Bassendean, will inspire Osborne Park to secure as many points as possible. Leading 1 Blue North skipper Doug Eaton should add to his impressive record and remaining skips Keith Guelfi, Rance Dewson and Keith Edwards will be chasing every point available.
Innaloo have scored one point in their last three games and they simply have too few first division bowlers to make any impression in this division.

Selection: Osborne Park

Cambridge (11) v Sorrento (24)
Cambridge will need to score as many points as possible playing on their carpet, because they appear to be one of the likely teams to join Innaloo in being demoted to 2nd Division next season. A number of their bowlers have their best bowls behind them and considering they don’t have a second division, one wonders how their side can be strengthened.

John Hammond (pictured) One of the hardest to beat skippers you will find in any dividsion

My pre season prediction of 7th for Sorrento will be way off. They lost by a shot to Bassendean but only trail them by three points on the premiership ladder.
John Hammond and Neil Adams (four wins) have had massive winning margins and appear capable of regularly carrying the aggregate.

Selection: Sorrento
