Review 1 Blue North Round FOURTEEN

Bassendean 103 (7) d Bedford 67 (1)

The Bassendean Lions mauled the Bedford Bulls today in a performance that shows us why they hold top place on the ladder.

The feature of this game was the outstanding leading perfomances by the Bassendean front players .

The rinks I got see most of, were those of John Lynch (31) V Brian Tupper (10)and Justin Opie (25) V Peter Hunter (15)

Lynch V Tupper

All players for the Lynch led rink played superbly in this game with the leader Norm Kirkup playing a brilliant 9 out of 10 leaders game. In fact he led better than many Premier league leaders I have seen play this season, his oppponent John Winship is a relativley new bowler and while beaten today showed plenty of grit and determination against such quality leading.

Jamie Davies indicating how far from the jack and Graham Campbell calling for the skips attention.

Norm was backed up by a very good seconds performance by ? Hall and not to be left out of the picture, Jamie Davies was just as good.
Best for Bedford was the third, Graham Campbell who was always under the pump, he played many great bowls,( bearing in mind that the Bassendean bowls were ulta close to the jack and often) to to cut down the count or get the shot from hard positions, of course when that happened in would come John Lynch and fix things up for his side. This Bassendean rink was superb throughout the game

---Graham Campbell played a great game, puts down another great bowl

We have been hearing that a few 8's have been scored lately in pennants and Bedfords rink of Shane Shaw (sk) Adi Mayer, Shane Nunan and Don Mort who were the only Bedford winners today picked up the 8 on the second end against the always hard to beat rink of Marcel Huerer. This proved to a winning factor for Shane and his rink because they had to withstand a fast finishing Marcel who just failed to win the point. Shane won 27/26. Two players to stand out in this game were the seconds, Colin Hotker for Bassendean and Shane Nunan for Bedford.

The big game of the match was between the best Bassendean rink, Justin Opie and Bedfords best rink, that of Peter Hunter. for a long period of time this was a hard fought game with plenty of great bowls played by both sides, but slowly and surely the Bassendean team got on top with their leader Steve Black turning on a good display of leading against a determined Ken Perks.
However the honours clearly went to Steve on the day. The back half of this Bassendean rink Justin Opie and Craig Greenhalg are a class act and showed why the rink has done so well this season.
Peter Hunter and his rink are a hard rink to knock over and will rebound from this loss today

----------------Steve Black led very, sends one down for Bassendean

The Bedford Bulls would have been disappointed with todays result and will have to lift on todays showing to avoid playing in second division next season

North Beach 92 (6) d Morley 84 (2)
North Beach are safe in Blue for next season, whilst Morley still have some nervous times ahead. Michael Murray’s winning run came to an end, losing by 1 shot to Morley’s top skipper Alan Haley. A great 20 shot victory to Merv Potter was the deciding factor for the Beach.

Wanneroo 104 (7) d Doubleview 73 (1)

A most decisive victory to the Roos with skipper Hutchings trouncing skipper Nicholls by 26 shots. The Roos have picked up the pace over the duration and should figure prominently next season at this level.

Sorrento 86 (7) d Cambridge 71 (1)

Sorrento couldn’t make up any ground on Bassendean, while Jim Gupanis gained the only point for Cambridge, who appear more and more likely to join Innaloo in 2nd Division next season.
Sorrento meet teams currently placed 4th to 7th in their last four games and just can’t afford any slip-ups.

Innaloo 89 (7) d Osborne Park 78 (1)
Innaloo settled their skips and teams as the season progressed, scoring their third win. Osborne Park has gone backwards compared to previous efforts in this colour.
