REVIEW OF ROUND 9--ONE BLUE NORTH
Bedford 95 (7 pts) d Morley 67 (1 pt)
An 18 shot win to Peter Hunter’s rink supported by wins to Dave Scott (11 shots) and Brian Tupper (6 shots) gave Bedford an important lift up the ladder.
Alan Haley bounced back after his only loss last round to record Morley’s solitary point. These are two of five teams separated by four points, which could be battling for the play offs, and it is a pity they have no significance.
Shane Shaw says
today was a good result for Bedford 7/1 against Morley when they were on top
of us by 5 now we are in front of them 1 which is great. The other 3 rinks
jumped out early and never looked like they were in trouble at all. They won
easily on 3 rinks .
We had a battle and after arriving at the 19th end and
the score 20/19 we dropped a 5. Hard game but well done to the Alan Haley and
the Morley boys they had only lost 1 game prior to our game and they
deserve their win.
Funny thing was we dropped a 7 and a 5 in the game so 2 ends really hurt us
but such is life.
Osborne Park 73 (6½) d Wanneroo 68 (1½)
Initially, my apologies to Wanneroo Club and selectors regarding Barry
Parmenter as I’m assured it is solely a selection based on form. As it was he received a 10 shot beating by ex Innaloo team mate Paul Pendergast.
Keith Guelfi Osborne Park (pictured) Topline skip over many years
Of note is Keith Guelfi’s rink with 3 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses in the first round. Wanneroo are in 9th place and facing the prospect of a quick return to 2nd division.
Bassendean 83 (6) d Doubleview 72 (2)
A huge win by 27 shots to John Lynch over John Nicholls was nearly erased by in form Stan Curtis recording a 22 shot victory opposed to Marcel Heurer, who had lost only one game previously.
Justin Opie (without his usual third Craig Greenhalgh) continued his winning streak with a 15 shot margin against Bomber Haring (without his usual third Kevin Stevens), who continued his long losing streak. Eddie Johnson’s rink remained undefeated.
Cambridge 98 (8) d Innaloo 65 (0)
Cambridge secured all 8 points, giving them a little breathing space before commencing round two, when they will have only four home games on their carpet.
Keith Cannon by 17 shots and Jim Gupanis by 13 shots, paved the way for a decisive win against a rearranged Innaloo team, who had players unavailable.
Cambridge are 1½ points out of the top four and 7½ points beyond demotion at the halfway mark - Interesting.
North Beach 78 (4) drew Sorrento 78 (4)
An important draw to North Beach as every point
is likely to be decisive in avoiding demotion at season’s conclusion. Thanks
were due to skips Werndley and Devenish who stepped up for the Beach. Neil
Adams’ season so far with 8 wins from 8 starts and +67 shots and Neil Brown’s
7 wins and 1 loss and a whopping +95 shots again won on their rinks.
Five points astray of Bassendean indicates Sorrento can’t afford many more slip-ups.
