We will never stop stop, till we are top top, there is history in the making we are the Wanneroo Express, the Roo Boys or what ever else you like to call us
(SHERRO YOU ARE WATCHING THE PREMIERS IN ACTION) Bill Galloway made this comment to Sherro at the 75th end of the Wanneroo Versus Bedford first semi-final. Bill Galloway watched every final of every major event when he was a State selector. Looks like Bill didn't miss much when watching these games.

They said it couldn't happen!! they said they would never make it!!!. A bunch of nobodies from an outer city club named Wanneroo. They thought differently!!!!
The Wanneroo Express have done the impossible to have come from 12.5 points out of the four at the conclusion of round 14 and at that stage looking decidedly shaky.
Geoff Ellis Wanneroo (pictured) played a huge part in the finals series
WELL from here on, they have gone on to make the final four and then to win the premiership against an irresistible Cockurn who had not lost a game since round 7 when they were beaten by The PowerHouse. The club has done the impossible!!! ( Sherro tipped Cockburn to win the Grand Final 8/0) it is not supposed to happen this way in the big league.
Around half of this group I had never heard of previous to this season, Murray WHO?? (Hulbert) -- Rabbit (Gary Adamini), Coxy, Sean Wright, Ken Boswell, Whitey (Graham White). How can you win a premiership with these no name players??. To find out all we had to do was go to Cockburn yesterday and see them brush Bedford aside in effortless fashion then see off Cambridge, Then front up at Carlisle today. We saw all we needed to see as this bunch of rookies along with their experience players outplayed the mighty Cockburn Roosters in a gripping and thrilling Grand Final which they won 78 / 75.

Cockburn were far from disgraced in this lost Grand Final. Always 13/14 shot buffer between the two sides and Cockburn chasing chasing chasing. They could not seem to break the pattern until late in the contest when they got with in one shot and looked likely winners as they were coming home on the crest of a wave. The Cockburn players certainly lifted a cog with brilliant ultra close bowls Wanneroo steadied as the heart rate soared for both sides. It was bowls at its best, drama with a capitol D. The crowd was very quite because of the intensity and each bowler striving so hard to do their best for their club.
Cockburn failed to win the premiership but they still won!! yes they won because they are the benchmark in bowls today that all other clubs would like to acheive and also in terms of passion and desire to win,to be the best.
Regardless of todays loss they are the leading club in WA and will continue to be a dominating force for a little while longer yet.

An absolute blockbuster and what a sensational game, For most part, Geoff Ellis and his rink held the whip hand by a slender margin then had to withstand a fightback from Steve Srhoy and his rink. The old master, under heaps of pressure was so good thru the game and played a pearler of a game but could not quite do enough to snare a win. Ron Bates was very good for the majority of the game Ted Alden did his share as did Sean Wright to enable the win to occur Geoff Ellis played very well thru the game and responded to the high voltaged pressure when it mattered most near the end.
Glen Vaughan tried very hard to turn the tide as did SuperGlue Jakovich with some tremendous bowls under pressure

The game was to far away from the commentary position to be able to say any thing about it, but for the Wanneroo Wizard and his rink to win against the brilliant Russell Hughes led rink by this margin would not have been expected.
This winning margin in this game was the main factor in the premiership win

Phil Potts Wanneroo (pictured) highly thought of as leader for Wanneroo

Again we had trouble to see this game as it was the furtherest game away from the commentary position and really cant say anything but what a clash and the score indicates what a battle it was.

This game was played on the hardest rink, it seemed to be so wind affected compared to the other games. Reg and his boys led 13/1 and looking good but as in the game against Pieter Harris when he led 14/2 the side let the game slip away and succumbed to Cockburn pressure. As the game wore on Peter Novak was leading very well and Ken Boswell was matching him with a lot of close bowls. Graham White was doing a great job playing second and appeared to shade the brilliant John Ravilich. "Rabbit" Adamini has a solid game and Mike Zusman was doing plenty of damage to help keep the Roo boys at bay. Reg Humphreyson played some rippers and was on top early but Daneil Brown played extra well to make sure that he would win his rink. and to score 29 shots to 7 after being 1/13 down tells the story

Graham White Wanneroo (pictured) a solid game in the grand final

Wanneroo (7 ) beatBedford (1) ..........91/ 63..
A telling victory to the Wanneroo Express as they defeat Bedford easily. Bedford were disappointing today against a committed Wanneroo Express who were impressive in their win.
I guess it is back to the drawing board for Bedford and they will have to reassess their playing list.

The Jones Boy { skip}, Bill Richardson , Paul Hunter, P. Hunter -----13

This was a hard game for both sides who are a couple of the best going around in the competition. It was a high standard game with all players contributing to the contest. Peter Hunter was leading very well as was Derrick Griffen with little between the two. It was nip and tuck to be 11/12 14th end and it was a great contest. Both skips were hard at it and playing very well however things did change from this end on and it was Stein Davies who got the upper hand with a touch of luck and some terrific bowls. They scooted away to win in a very good standard game

Reg Humphreyson {skip}, G.Adamini. G. White, K. Boswell .........19
P. Harris {skip} L. Strahan, M.Illich, K. Manton.............................20

What a sensational game of bowls. Reg and his boys got away to a fantastic start with each player for Reg doing the job and of course Reg played some magic bowls when he was down, in fact he rarely played a bad bowl. John Carlsen was leading very well but it made no difference to Wanneroo as they built up a lead of 14/2 winning 8 of the first 10 ends and saying catch us if you can, man.
From here on things got better for Pieter Harris who had played some very big bowls to keep the scoreline getting out of hand. Inch by inch they clawed their way back as Reg Missed what he was getting earlier in the game. Then suddenly a big 6 on the on the 18th end saw Pieter hit the front and lead 19/16 and then win 20/19

WOW!!! What a fantastic game of bowls, Geoff Ellis was superb, Ron Bates brilliant, Ted Alden solid, S. Wright solid. These boys bowled out of this world, when the heads were tight they found the room to still pile them on the jack. Draw power was the name of the game for the rink and they careered away to lead 16/2 on the 10th end and as they looked at the rink along side of them they saw Greg Humphryson leading 14/2. What a pleasant sight and they kept on keeping on to lead 23/6 on the 15th end. The front end for bedford was battling on and was probably 40/60. The Bedford backend just could not cope with the constant pressure applied by Ron Bates and Geoff Ellis, both players has terrific weight control and never threw their bowls away with badly weighted shots as did Bedford on occasions
It was a brilliant display of weight control and skill from Geoff Ellis and his boys.

---.-------.15

Barry Gatrell's rink got away to a very good start with Keith Manton leading very well and making it easy for the rink. It was a high standard game and the scores at 11/5 didn't reflect how good Clive's team was also playing. Disaster struck for Bedford when they were two down on the 12th end and a wayward drive from Barry Gartrell saw him go down 7 shots and surrender the hard fought lead. from here on it was the Wanneroo Wizard who played many, many big bowls and was playing close the best he can.
Clive and his boys at 14/14 on the 14th end just played better and better as the game wore on winning 9 of the last ten ends,

Cockburn win on all rinks against Cambridge's

Congratulations to the mighty Cockburn bowling Club.

Cockburn were far to good for Cambridge in the second semi-final winning 8/0 and appear to have a strangle hold on the premierhip trophy
Steve Srhoy's rink lead the way with a massive win over John Rainoldi's rink who were down 21/6 at one stage of the game

R. Hughes (skip) S. Cerff, A. Petchell, D. Penman---------.-----19

Russell Hughes jumped off a plane after competing in the Australian open and made the adjustment of different green speeds to play a major role in the defeat of Brian Katunarich's rink. The game was a game of one per end on most occasiions and the main break came when Russell Hughes scores a 5 and that was the difference in the game.

G. Carberry (skip) P. Sardelic, J. Galipo, J. Beswick------------17
T Smallacombe (skip),S. Edmonds , N.Lewis,B. Kiely...............11
Gary Carberry had a huge task having to take on the top rink at Cambridge The game was a game of one per end on most occasions and the main break came when Gary Carberry scored a 5 on the 13th end to lead 13/7 and that was the difference in the game. They kept on winning the ends one shot at a time and the game slipped away from Trystan Smallacombe and his boys.

D. Brown (skip), M. Zusman, J. Ravilich, P. Novak-------------29
R. Stockton (skip), C. Lander, T. Walsh. H. Christensen.........20

A very hard fought affair with Ron Stockton leading 9/3 at the 8th end and looking good. On the 13th end he was leading 17/11. From here there was quite a change when they dropped a six to be 17/17 and that was the end for them as Daniel Brown's rink scored 29/20 for the remainder of the game
