"To avoid criticism, do nothing, say nothing, be nothing."
- Elbert Hubbard

Cockburn finish on top of the table after the completion of the home and away rounds were finalised today. The Premiers overcame a sluggish start to the season and many thought they might be over the hill. Some mid season recruitment paid big dividends for the club and made the difference as they surged to the the top of the table. Congratulations Cockburn, They are more than aware there are a couple of final steps to be taken to repeat last years success
Cambridge were shock losers today against Bedford and were beaten for the first time in a day game at their club this season. It has been refreshing to see a different club challenging for the title from past years. Their recruits have done them proud and are the reason for the club being on top of the ladder tho unfortunately they have lost top spot with todays loss.

Bedford Bulls have faced many a drama within the club this season and to have made the final four for the second time in its history is mostly due to the influence of Pieter Harris who is highly respected within the club and has shown he has all the qualities needed to be " THE MAN".
Also Bedford have another very good reason to be where they are, of course, it is The Jones Boy who is a certainty to be a skipper for W.A. Jonesy is one hell of a player. Of course we cannot forget the commitment of the Bedford players to help make it happen.

Wanneroo is a fairy tale come true and to make it to the finals is a just reward to the brains trust who went out and recruited some quality players. Week in week out, there was always a major game for the club, and to jump those hurdles and push aside the opposition the way they have is something the club can be proud of.

BEDFORD QUOTE "Great stuff Bedford and I now hope you can show your best form from here on, congratulations and well done and well deserved" Sherro

A telling victory to defeat Cambridge at Cambridge

Today was a lucky day for Sherro. I saw The Jones Boy at his absolute brilliant best. He was up against it because the Cambridge leader Harold Christensen was sensational also and rarely was it that he did not have two bowls on the jack or very close to it, outstanding leading Harold
Peter Hunter had a bad day and the side was always under the pump. The Jones Boy was so good that it may seem hard to say, but he won this game almost by himself.
Bill Richardson played a good game while Paul Hunter warmed up as the game progressed amd played a vital role to help toward the win.
Ron Stockton played a very good game himself but could not counter the brilliant Jones Boy. Tony Wash and Chris lander also played very well but saw their great efforts turned around time after time.

The Jones Boy was sensational.

P. Harris {skip} L. Strahan, M.Illich, K. Manton......................20
J.Rainoldi {skip}, Jarrod Rainoldi. Irvin, Aj Heal ----------.---27
I was not able to see this game as it was on the far side of the green but one thing is for sure and that is John Rainoldi got the best out of his rink and it is no mean feat to knock Pieter Harris over.

S.Bainbridge {skip}, J. Trewhella, B. Donovan, M. Trewhella---28
B. Katunarich {skip},M. McGann, G. Kane, W. Maher.................12
I could not see much of this game but what I did see was Matty Trewhella play a magnificent game today it was often those two bowls of his were right or around the jack. It was the win of this rink that destroyed any hope of a Cambridge victory.

Barry Gartrell {skip}, N.Minchin. M. Lemos, K. Collins
---.-------.21
T. Smallacombe {skip} S. Edmonds ,N. Lewis, B. Kiely..................26

This game was the one I was closest to. Barry Gartrell and his rink would have had all the pressure in the world on them after the shellacking they received the day before from Melville's Mastro Jeff hall who is the skipper of top rink of that club.
Unbeleivably Barry Gartrell had drawn Cambridge's best performed rink, that of Trystan Smallacombe. Well Barry Gartrell had a fantasic first half where he played brilliantly to get his side to a commanding 9/0 lead and he was very good all thru the game as it turned out, he was always close to the action with his bowls.
From here things changed because Brian "Kelvin" Kiely was leading brilliantly with both bowls and giving Mel Lemos a bit of a touch up, soon the score was 9/9 all after Barry Gartrell's rink dropped a big six.
The impressive thing from a Cambridge perpective was the outstanding weight control of Trystan Smallacombe. He was never far from that jack, Scott Edmonds was very consistent and alway ever so close, thought I forgot Nicky Lewis but no, he was also very very consistent as the second. This rink has such good drawshot power and it explains why they are so hard to beat.
The Cambridge side got away as the game wore on and Barry Gartrell played an extremely good game, Mel Lemos did hang in there and never gave it away while Neil Minchin kept plugging on.
Kevin Collins did a fairly good job but was not as consistent as Scott Edmonds.

Leeming (8) beatYokine (0)..................93/ 56.

Adisappointing end to Yokines brave bid to avoid relegation. However They have been so good for the competition and are the best last or second last sides to have played in the One Red division for sometime. Just a couple of quality players more would have made the difference.

Leeming have done very well and if rumours are correct, Leeming will be a huge force in pennants next season. Rhett Butler has his finger on the pulse and is aware of what is needed. A job well done Leeming for season 2005/6.
