Round Twelve One Red Division 12-02-06Click here to Return to Pennant Scene

Cockburn win the best game of the round in an absolute nail biter. Two great sides do the business and it all ends up a draw.

Doubleview PowerHouse destroy Victoria Park. OH BOY !! not as easy a dinner for The PowerHouse as we thought.
Some of the One Red Victoria Park 16 have a dip and just fall short. They still retain a chance of avoiding demotion with only 6 points between them and Osborne Park

Melville Magic come to play and get the points as we all expected.

The Bedford Bulls win!!!--and another unbeleivable scoreline between these two teams where there has been a shot the difference in three of their last four games

Wanneroo do the job in a thriller to win by one shot. A good win considereing how hard Yokine are to beat at home. lets give Yokine full credit for their wonderful effort and all I can say is thank god we have a bottom side with this much pluck their performance again says to the bowling world that they are no easy beats.

Bedford (5) beatOsborne Park(3) ..........76/ 75..

This was always a danger game for Bedford and the score shows that the Bedford Bulls are showing chinks in their armour. Little cracks are starting to surface. Wings Evans, Bill Galloway and Daniel Trewhella have made the Bulls more than aware how the Bedford Bulls are traveling at the moment and perhaps the Bulls are slip sliding away, Their wins recently have not been impressive.
The Jones Boy and his rink are now tasting defeat on a regular basis, three straight losses.!!! From the best rink in the competition a month ago, welllllllll,

Pieter Harris loses an important game, and Lance Strahan gets done. What now for the Bulls who it seems are struggling and not the team of the first round.

=========================================================

The Jones Boy { skip}, B. Richardson. Paul Hunter, J. Carlsen-----14
D. Trewhella {skip}, P. Caffell, J. Tyrer.P.Fair------------------------18
The Jones Boy and his rink went at it hammer and tongs and we saw Daniel Trewhella under the pump 5/13 down after the 12th end.. In most cases this is the end of the penny section.
Daniel Trewhella and his boys said NO!!!! we are better than that, and went on to win the next 8 ends in a row to record an easy 18/14 victory.

Best for Bedford, third Bill Richardson
Best for O.P leader Paul Fair

==========================================================
P. Harris {skip} B. Gartrell, M.Illich ,K. Manton...................21
B. Galloway {skip} I. Payne, G. Nicol, F. Carbone..................23

Bill Galloway and his rink are the best performed rink at O.P and played the best rink at Bedford, and also the overall best in the One Red division till today.
This was a pretty good contest up till the 11th end where Pieter was 11/10 in front, from there on, things went well for Bill Galloway picking up a 6 and a 2 to lead 18/11. Lots of hard work ahead for Pieter Harris's rink, and work they did to charge their way back into the contest picking up a 2,4,2,1 to lead 20/18. However that was the end of the game as Bill Galloway's boys steadied to win 23/21 in a great contest.
===========================================================
S.Bainbridge {skip}, J. Trewhella, M. Lemos, M. Trewhella--------26
J. Goddard{skip},J. Coleman ,C.Guelfi, G. King---------------------13
The win by Stu Bainbridge, John Trewhella, Mel Lemos and Mat Trewhella against the normally hard to beat John Goddard was the most important win they have had this year.
Stu and the boys got away to a poor start and found themselves 2/9 down after 5 ends and things looking grim. Better things were waiting for his rink and they found their way back into the game to be 9/9 on the 10th end. The next 11 ends saw them charge away to record a significant win grabbing 9 shots in the last three ends to be the major reason for the Bulls victory.
All players in the rink fired, in an even performance.

========================================================
Lance Strahan {skip}, N.Minchin. S.Shaw, K. Collins-------------------15
G. Evans (skip),P.Pendergast, F. DeGuiseppe, J. Edwards. ------------21

A very hard fought game as these two sides were hard at it, nothing in it at the 9th end 8/8 apeice. The 14th end saw Wings Evans and his rink start to get an edge and were never headed from that point on picking up 3,1,1,0,2,4, along the way and holding Lance's rink to three singles to win 21/15. Perhaps the most important area in this losing rink was on the last end and the aggregate looking lost. Third, Neil Minchin played two of the best draw shots that he could wish for to help win the aggregate for Bedford.

Paul Pendergast Osborne Park (pictured) doing well at his new club

Doubleview (8) DEF Victoria park (0 )...........91/ 69....
As expected the PowerHouse won handsomely on the main scoreboard but did meet with some resistance
The big winner for the PowerHouse was Pat Buller's rink who set this victory up with a very good win against Mark Simpson 27/14.
John Slavich notched up another win at the expense of Steve Withers 23/18.
Robbie Ball just got over the line in his battle with Rooster Wishart 20/18
Kyle McIroy also getting there narrowly against Justin Opie 21/19.

=============================================================
Wanneroo (7) DEF Yokine (1)...............82/81...

We thought this would be a danger game for the Roo Boys and it was a very close shave. They had a good lead on the major score board and at one stage they led by more than twenty shots. As other good sides have found out, coming to play at Yokine is no stroll in the park and once again we were to see Yokine make their opponents fight hard to win.
The game was played on grass and we saw Clive Adams's rink jump out to a very good lead of 21/8 against Tony Kay, only to see it whittled away to the final score of 23/20.
Geoff Ellis's rink had a horror game and found themselves 6/21 down against Adrian Feltham, Trevor Braugham, Carpenter and John Bills. The front three for Adrian's rink were outstanding and just kept piling their bowls on the jack. Things were desperate For Geoff Ellis's rink and finally his boys came good to bring respectability to the score board to lose 15/23. Without this fightback Wanneroo could forget about the rest of the season in terms of finals.
Ron Bates and his rink got away to flyer against Sid McCann to lead 11/3 and get up to 18/9 and Graham Adamini was playing a great game as leader and doing it nicely for the Roo Boys, however the Yokine spirit came to the party to fight back. The Bates led rink survived the very strong challenge and won 21/19
Stein Davies drew the short straw by having to play Yokines best rink, Alan Davis's boys who have had a very good season so far.
Alan Davis had a handy lead 13/9, and looking set for another victory fell short of accomplishing that. It was a most important win for Stein Davies and Wanneroo in his win 23/19.

==================================================

Melville(7) beat Leeming (1)..................86/73...
Melville Magic win as we thought they would but what we did not expect was the huge rink win of Jeff Hall against a revamped Rhett Butler line up.
What bought about the team changes as far as thirds went, I am not sure but it certainly backfired, Jeff Richards made his debut for leeming and he might have wished that it was a week later.
Jeff Hall and his rink of Kiran Cousens, Chris Jones and Ron Andrew have had a magic season and certainly are one of the best rinks going around in One Red
Jon Sharp's rink bounced back after last weeks big loss with a handy 22/15 against Bruce Edwards.
Steve Hughes would now know how hard it is to be a skipper, it is only early days for him in that role. Anthony Provost beating him 25/8
Cameron Girvan is one of the major success stories of the season as he and team mates continue on their merry way winning yet another game, this time against Wayne Heldt 24/18.

==================================================
Cockburn (5 ) Cambridge (3) ...................84/ 84....
What a great contest, Cockburn show they are back in business and doing it at the right time of the season winning on three rinks to show they are tough to beat and have now won their last five straight. Cambridge would be happy coming away with 3 points and an almost win.
Cockburn have survived by the narrowest of margins. Scotty Edmonds who has been a bit of a revelation in his role as skipper and getting the best out of this under performing rink since taking over from John Rainoldi was holding four on the last end and needed to draw one more shot to win the game for the Cambridge Knights was unable to do so. His rink accounted for a disappointing Joe Galipo led rink 28/14

Scotty Edmonds Cambridge (pictured) doing a great job since taking on the skippers job

The other Cockburn rinks showed they are so hard to beat with good performances from Steve Srhoy who beat Brian Katunarich 26/16
Russell Hughes fresh from his brilliant display when he won the Best From The West on friday, night snuck over the line defeating Ron Stockton 24/22.
Daniel Brown beat the top rink at Cambridge that of Trystan Smallacombe by another small margin 20/18.
