June 24, 2004: I would just like
to make a few personal comments regarding \"B\" Green.
After having mixed felings about the \"carpet\" during the hot Summer
months, I now find it an absolute pleasure to play on such a high quality surface
during the wet season.
We are very fortunate to have a green of this calibre available to us every day
of the year.
Imagine how good it would be for the club to have another such surface in place
of \"A\" Green. On Thursdays (Meat packs) and Saturday (pairs), we would
guarantee to have at least the 2 front greens packed with bowlers. Think how much
more attractive the game would appear to passers-by (even on the bus). Imagine
floodlit night bowls in the Summer (and possibly on fine evenings in the Winter)
with both greens packed with bowlers.
I personally believe that, with two top quality greens available all year round,
the club could only progress.
Furthermore, I would expect to see a few more of our 1st Division bowlers in action
during the Winter months. The good greens would not be detrimental to their \"touch\"
bowling skills (as the much slower grass greens obviously are).
I am not sure what the financial situation of the club is or if the required money
(for the 2nd synthetic green) could be raised by other means but I am sure it
would be a very big asset to all members and future recruits.
Good greens entice good bowlers......isn\'t that what we are desperately looking
for?
P.S....it would help if they were good drinkers too!
